Avatar m tn Medications are often the most effective way to treat acute gout and can prevent recurrent attacks of gout. However, making certain lifestyle changes also are important, such as limiting alcoholic beverages (especially beer), limiting intake of foods high in purines (such as red meat, organ meats, and seafood), and exercising regularly and losing weight.
Avatar m tn Is there any gout remedy / medication which would not have this incompatibility for enlarged prostate patients as earlier he used to take Voveran when he used to feel the onset of the gout attack, but now with this side effect, he hesitates to take Voveran which causes the onset of his painful gout attack.
107366 tn?1305680375 Have any of you tried Total Gout Relief? I had a coworker whose husband used this system to treat his gout. He says Total Gout Relief gave him amazing results, to the point where his gout is virtually gone! He says the system contains only high quality, all-natural ingredients which are supposed to clean and repair your system from the inside out. Now, my main reason for posting this message: I wonder if Total Gout Relief will work for my brother.
712802 tn?1274645485 s or rhumatoidologist will initially attempt to treat gout by diet. A low purine diet can be very difficult to follow. Often if there are repeated flares, Gout will be treated prophylactically with medications such as Allopurinol. The more often you experience a flare of gout the more damage may be caused to your tissues and joints. NSAID are the usual treatments for gouty arthritis.
Avatar n tn No one likes to take medications but sometimes it is necessary to avoid serious complications. Excessive uric acid can destroy joints. Mollyrae made a good suggestion, see your PCP. Develop a plan to treat your condition. Avoid foods that are high in purine though I know this can be difficult to do. Best of luck to you. Please let us know how you are doing.
Avatar m tn It allows the heart to pump your blood more efficiently. Was it RXed for your foot swelling? The Colchicine is used to treat gout. Two doses would not have been enough to know if it was effective in treating a gout flare. Gout doesn't always act the same in every person...however it's easy to rule this in or out based on Uric Acid levels in your blood. I assume your PCP has done this and that is his rationale behind dismissing Gout.
Avatar f tn I am not sure what gout medication you took, but the 5 most commonly prescribed gout medications are allopurinol, colchicine, pegloticase, probenecid, and febuxostat. All 5 of these drugs are categorized by the FDA as pregnancy risk category C. This means that there is reason to be concerned about their use during pregnancy, but they have not been shown to be harmful to fetuses. These drugs may be used during pregnancy if the benefit is greater than the risk.
Avatar m tn I wanted to also share with you a side effect of Niaspan is gout. If you never had it before, and start to more than likely it's the Niaspan that caused it. My husband was on Niaspan for a a couple of yrs. well, for the last yr. before discontinuing it, he kept getting flare-ups of gout. He started to get it more often than not. Also, the flare-ups were unbearable, to wear he couldn't go into the office because he couldn't put his shoe on.
Avatar f tn Spiriva is an anticholenergic used to treat various forms of COPD, but rarely asthma. The primary function of these medications is to reduce mucous in the respiratory system. They do have a mild broncho-dilating affect. I have not used Spiriva so I am unsure of its dosage, but I have taken ipratropium which is in the same class. As a neb solution it lasts 6 hours and as an MDI it last 4 hours. Check your prescription for dosing on this medication.
1028452 tn?1537448484 Simultaneous blood and urine levels of uric acid may be taken to decide between the choices of medications required/ decide which medication would be more helpful, though combination therapy is tried in most cases. I would suggest consulting a rheumatologist or a nephrologist for the same. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn I don't know what to tell you, but I have to stress if you need to go to the hospital, than go. Most hospitals have a hardship program and if you go as an emergency, they have to treat you. I'm sorry I don't have more advice for you. I think this should be done by a Dr though.
Avatar m tn I am now up to 300mg allopurinol daily with outbreaks of gout occurring every 3 to 4 weeks. I grow weary of the pain and need to know if there is something else out there that will work like the colchicine/allopurinol combo did. HELP!!
Avatar f tn My mom's hands appear to be more affected than her toes as well...so I'm guessing it's not too uncommon. As for treatment...I would think it would be a little more difficult because you use your hands more...but I would have to double check that with my mom...sorry.
517981 tn?1216782018 Sorry to hear of all your problems. A lot of people don't that Gout is a form of arthritis. It used to be referred to as "the rich mans disease" because it was thought to be associated with eating rich foods. It is caused by there being too much uric acid in your blood which can cause hard crystals to form in your joints. Drinking too much alcohol, or eating a lot of meat or fish with high levels of a chemical called purines can bring gout on.
Male Colchicine might also be of benefit. Finally, there are two new medications for gout--recently approved by the FDA--Uloric and Krystexxa. You might wish to speak to your physician about whether you would be a candidate for either. Good luck!
672393 tn?1300744926 Sometimes when I lift my foot up it feels like something is rubbing on the side of my foot, kind of like bones rubbing. (Used to get that feeling in my right knee before I had surgery) I had to do some walking today and my ankle and foot are soooo sore..walking was horrible..i wish i knew what is going on with my foot Maybe someone here could shed me some insight.
Avatar f tn That is quite a lot of medication, especially for a woman who is probably in her 70's. I don't know anywhere near enough about Parkinson's or the meds used to treat it to give you my opinion, let alone an answer. I suggest three things. As her daughter, you have the right to speak with her doctor about your concerns regarding the meds. Secondly, you could speak with your local pharmacist who is a DOCTOR of PHARMACOLOGY and get his learned opinion on your mother's med load.
Avatar f tn The doctor can arrange for you to have a blood test taken to check if you have any inflammatory problems and to see if you do have gout. It is important to find out whether you have gout or not, as you will need to be careful with what you eat and drink and depending on the level of inflammation with regard to the gout, the doctor may consider prescribing medication to control the gout.
1016618 tn?1420553262 Recommend being vigilant for signs of gout and, if the treatment is not contraindicated with your HCV treatment, treat it aggressively -- I feel it is easier to get a handle on the gout if it is treated early. There are many articles on gout, Here is my favorite: http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/mobileart.asp?articlekey=374 My research indicates that not everyone with high uric acid gets gout.
Avatar n tn Yes its understood then. So if you take it as prescribed for pain you are not abusing it then. But if people read that you believed it could work in that fashion it might encourage some of those people. People post specific information as regards their own recovery (that in no way supercedes a psychiatrist's understanding of them) but a "debate" is not a good idea.
Avatar m tn I have am bipolar also, I have been on many prescription medications and find they are only temporary, and only lead to more prescription meds. I think depression is a sign saying we need to change something in our life, for me it was my health, so I take tons of different vitamins for mood stabilization and depression, and a long hard workout for sleep(and they work).
