Medications used during colonoscopy

Common Questions and Answers about Medications used during colonoscopy

drug

Avatar f tn Can the drugs used for sedation during the colonoscopy, or any other medications for that matter, interfere with the results of the EMG? The drugs for the colonoscopy will likely be Versed, Demerol, or anti-nausea medication. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Sarah, it's called visceral hypersensitivity and a lot of people experience it. Your colon is reacting to stretch and it sounds like your 'stretch-detector' is set on 'very sensitive.' Was your colonoscopy done with sedation besides the diazepam? If it's done in the U.S., diazepam isn't the only drug that's typically used. And how long ago was the last one done?
511091 tn?1211149660 Is it normal and routine to be intubated during a colonoscopy when the sedative Propofol is used? Are there any other options?
212161 tn?1599427282 I had general anesthesia (completely unconscious) during my colonoscopy because of my age, and it went just fine. I have also had sedatives for endoscopies and this also usually went fine.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone.... I'm scheduled to have my first colonsocopy next week, & I have to admit, I am terrified. I'm horribly sqeamish, and on top of that, I have heard horror stories of patients being 'aware' during the procudure, when they were supposed to be knocked out. I'm hoping someone can put me at ease here... I'm losing a lot of sleep! Thanks!
Avatar f tn Hey Motownguy, I answered your PM. Sorry I was a bit late I had to do some work on "supper." Thanks for asking. It was wise of you to take the time to investigate the contents of your medication instead of guessing.
Avatar n tn I forgot to say that my last colonoscopy was the one used to diagnose UC in late 2007. The imflamation was limited to the sigmoid colon which was why we were using the enemas for treatment.
Avatar f tn i want to know what they used to sedate me. I did file a complaint with the hospital who is suppose to be doing a investigation. I have panic attacks and this has made them so much worse. Will i ever forget this experience? He did remove 4 polyps...but i dont think i will ever have another one. I have lost trust in this test.
Avatar f tn When she had her colonoscopy, apparently she came home and went straight to bed. (Not sure what they used on her) I had an excess of energy and could not sit still. She kept yelling at me to go sit down and take it easy. Today I have a horrible headache and am still feeling a bit "speedy". Wondering if this is from the propofol... The only other time I had anesthesia was the end of January when I had surgery to remove fibroids from my uterus.
Avatar m tn Did they take any biopsies during the previous colonoscopy? Not the occasional polp, actual random samples of the colon wall? They need to do this if there is a deep suspicion of the presence of an IBD in an apparently normal individual. Just something to keep in mind if they decide to do another colonoscopy in the future.
Avatar m tn Oh my goodness, reading that was like reading about myself. Same boat, keep me updated plz.
Avatar m tn people over 55 years of age, people who suffer from dehydration, kidney disease, acute colitis, or delayed bowel emptying, and, people taking certain medicines that affect kidney function, such as diuretics (fluid pills), angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (medications that lower blood pressure), angiotensin receptor blockers (used to treat high blood pressure, heart or kidney failure), and possibly nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (similar to ibuprofen and other arthritis medication
Avatar m tn Having a colonoscopy at 11 am. Used smoking meth during prior day to suppress the hungry feeling. Anesthesia will be used, should there be concen?
Avatar n tn I was even laughing and joking with them during the colonoscopy. They gave me double the highest dose they give of Versed and Fentenyl before each one of the procedures but I was very awake, didn't feel drowsy or anything and they opened an obstruction I had, did a biopsy in the endoscopy and then in the colonoscopy they removed a poylp and did a biopsy also. I had some full feeling from the air they pump in but that was about it.
Avatar m tn Medications can be prescribed such as anti-diarrhea medications, anticholinergic medications, anti-depressants and medications to loosen the stool if there is constipation. Eat small frequent meals. Exercise regularly as these help the bowel to move. Also some medications can be prescribed under strict vigilance: Alosetron has been approved for women with IBS and severe diarrhea and that too under strict vigilance and research program.
Avatar f tn I recently had a colonoscopy and everything was fine except for hemorrhoid or 2. Ever since then there have been times when I've noticed blood after having a bowel movement. Could the colonoscopy have irritated the hemorrhoid?
Avatar n tn Thank you for your response. The colonoscopy did not reveal any serious concerns, thanfuly. I guess the next step, since I have tried eliminating medications, etc is to attack my diet. I have two main guesses at the culprit: gluten, and/or alcohol. Both of which are present systematically in my diet. I have started just a straight fiber drink, at least daily, which has shown moderate signs of helping with the issue. Thanks agian, JGOOMAN!
Avatar f tn I do think that this may have eliminated the chances of me having to have a colonoscopy (as I am sure the doc had a look at my colon during the lap), but in comparison - a colonoscopy would've been much easier to handle. Will keep you up to date!
Avatar f tn I would call and ask. If its a colonoscopy they have to sedate you plus the laxatives used the night b4 will likely send you into labor. Neither the laxative or sedation are good for pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I just had a bad experience with a colonoscopy. I remember the pain quite well in spite of a huge dose of Versed (8 mg) along with 50 mg. of Benedryl, and 100 mcg. of Fentanyl. I am overweight, but not obese. A pediatric scope was used. I have endometriosis with obliteration of the cul-de-sac and 3 ovarian cysts that were not removed during laparoscopy because they were so inaccessible (10 weeks ago).
592912 tn?1307406761 I had a colonoscopy last week and woke up during it in INCREDIBLE pain, I was screaming and he eventually has to stop cause they couldnt keep me under. I remembered EVERYTHING! (thats the short story) I am allergic to Demerol which is what they usually give along with Versed, so I found out they gave me Nubain instead and Versed.
Avatar m tn For the last three years I have had the dull pain in my rectum It is a feeling of going to the bathroom. The pain starts after a bowel movement in the morning. During the night it is fine. I tried many medications to no avail. I have had three doctors checked on it to no avail. Many colonoscopy etc I had to fisures removed and the dull pain still present. What to do you recommend I do next.
