Common Questions and Answers about Medications given to dogs

drug

Avatar f tn Would it be okay to give a human Laxitive to a dog, if they were having trouble using the bathroom.
Avatar m tn I would absolutely take your dog to see the vet as soon as possible, as this is quite a complex drug which must only be given to dogs with properly diagnosed heart fallure. It should not be given to dogs under 6 months of age, to pregnant or lactating dogs and certain forms of cardiac disease.
Avatar f tn For sure. Cats are at least 10 times smaller than a SMALL adult human female. What is given to us is too much for such a small animal. For example: The amount of Zyrtec I was told to give to Akira is only 1/4 of the adult human dosage. This is much smaller than the children's dosage, which is 1/2 of the adult human dosage. I would never ever give medications to Akira without her first seeing her doctor. I do know that no one should ever give Tylenol to their pets.
Avatar n tn Previcox For Dogs Review Previcox is given to your dog in a chewable tablet which makes it easier to get your dog to take its medicine. Dogs love the flavor and usually have no problems taking the tablets at all. You should keep a close eye on your dog when first starting the Previcox treatment as side effects have been reported in some breeds. Some side effects include vomiting, skin rash, lethargy, and bloody stool.
Avatar f tn NO! Dogs can't metabolize ibuprofen (advil). You can give him tylenol for a short time, but he will be much better off with an anti-inflammatory from your vet. I had two dogs that ended up with severe arthritis. The first took rimadyl daily for 5 of his 13.5 years due to hip displaysia. The last couple of years we switched to deramaxx when the symptoms got more severe. BIG difference with the deramaxx, but it's more expensive.
Avatar n tn It can be given to dogs but I only know if it being given UV and that was in extreme cases and it has to be dosed correctly. I would NOT advise you to give that to your dog. You need to be more concerned as to the cause of the vomiting. Is the dog sick? Is the dog drinking fluids? As this is an older dog, there could be any number of reasons for the vomiting. Don't feed the dog or, if you feel you must, you might try a small portion of chicken and rice.
Avatar f tn She told me to take him home and watch for seizures and if he seizures for more than 3 minutes call her in route back to the vet. He began having seizures every 5 to 10 minutes, could not walk and his breathing was very labored but fast. We ended up taking him to the emergency room that night where he stayed so they could give him the anti-seizure medication. I picked him up in the morning and took him back to the vet where he stayed all-dat to be monitored. We did this until this thursday.
Avatar n tn I can see how this is the case since my symptoms occur when I am around animals, cats in particular, not necessarily with dogs. I take Toprol ER 50mg and Calan HCL 240mg. I was hoping to find some OTC allergy medication to take for the few times I have these symtpoms.
660872 tn?1238641245 If your dog has severe arthritis, you really need to get a prescription anti-inflammatory like rimadyl or deramaxx. I had two dogs who took those medications for years with absolutely no trouble. The deramaxx is more expensive, but it also worked when the rimadyl was no longer effective. Unless your dog is extremely crippled, mild exercise like short walks or swimming can help keep him going longer with fewer symptoms. Strong muscles can take some pressure off the bones and joints.
Avatar n tn May be an abscess, infection, swollen lymph node. Either way, yes, you should have the Vet check it. May have to be lanced and the dog given antibiotics.

Avatar m tn Has your dog been checked for the common diseases associated with megaesophagus? These diseases are: Hypothyroid, Myasthenia gravis, and Addison's Disease. If your dog does not have these diseases than he probably has idiopathic megaesophagus which means that the cause can't be found. Megaesophagus usually occurs in large breed dogs. It is uncommon for it to occur in Yorkshire terrier's but is not unheard of.
Avatar n tn Can I have some feedback about any reputable online suppliers of pet medications? Or vise versa.
5629636 tn?1371253040 I am heart broken over my dogs chronic ear infections. There has GOT to be something better that I can do to help her. She is absolutely miserable. We've done venison, bison, poultry, fish diets. I won't feed her anything beef because she's definitely allergic. We've given her prednisone, kentaconazole, used the antiseborrheic and cleansing solution, Surolan, Mometamax & Posatex. NOTHING works. My poor dog is miserable and I am in tears watching her go through this.
