Avatar f tn PTSD a cause of heart failure? I do take medications for PTSD. Cardiology consult tomorrow. I take propranolol for PTSD and primary doc just prescribed lasix and lisinopril.
Avatar f tn I am taking Clonazepam (klonopin) and Bupoprion (wellbutrin) prescribed by a Psychiatrist. I am also taking Ultram for pain in the chest bones. The Ultram also produces a calming effect. These are my primary meds. However I wish to go off all the meds but the withdrawal effects of klonopin are horrendous. When I run out of klonopin I use my mother's xanax to reduce the withdrawal. I want to quit all medications but I don't know in which order to do it.
Avatar f tn I too suffer from PTSD, have bifocals & several medications, as I have multiples other ailments as well. However, my EMDR experience was a little different as I also have glaucoma, so I couldn't always follow the object & the time that we did try it I did have problems with my eyes not being able to feel like they wanted to synchronize again. So you may want to see if you can change to a different version, I was then tried on the audio & on the physical handheld tappers.
Avatar f tn I am very happy with the treatment so far, but today, I met with a Board Certified Advanced Nurse Practitioner who specializes in medications for anxiety and PTSD. She took a thorough medical history, spent over 3 hours gathering an immense amount of pertinent information. After reviewing the medications I was already taking (to avoid any conflicts) she recommended Lamotrigine for my intense anxiety.
Avatar f tn I took vistaril it was for anxiety made my mouth dry lol but everyone else responds diffrerently ok I have PTSD from combat since '94 I still have it :)
1021784 tn?1306363011 Lurasidone, (Latuda) is used to treat the symptoms of SCHIZOPHRENIA and is in a class of medications called ATYPICAL ANTIPSYCHOTICS. They should never be prescribed for anxiety/panic/OCD or depression. I do not have the qualifications nor the authority to tell you to stop taking this medication, but I'd sure as hell get that second opinion yesterday! Please let me know what you find out.
Avatar m tn I hope I also understood your question. It most likely will take a combination of therapy and medicine as PTSD is partly psychological and partly psychiatric in nature as far as I know. I was told the antipsychotics I take also help treat PTSD. I also noticed when I relapsed that symptoms started coming back until my dose was increased. In short, there is medicine to treat it and prevent or reduce symptoms and therapy is used so the person can come to terms with the trauma.
591546 tn?1244636545 I am not certain what the best meds would be perhaps a doctors opinion would be good check out the experts forum for anxiety meds, good luck

Avatar m tn I took this for a few night a few years ago when the VA first came out with their research about it. I did not notice any difference in nightmares. I have seen in recent studies that it can take as long as six months for some people to see any difference. I have asked to try it again and have it. But, I haven't tried it again yet. I am taking Xanax and I don't recommend it. But, once they give it to you, it works for a few years...
9909816 tn?1406669897 Thank you so much for responding! Are you saying that medication works for PTSD as well? Also, how do I find the forum? Thank you so much!
1505184 tn?1289666903 While both medications are benzodiazepines, they do have some differences as well as similarities. Both medications are best used on a short term basis, four months or less if taken daily, but best used on a PRN basis, (AS NEEDED) Valium has been around for a long time and people tend to view it as rather harmless, which is totally untrue, as it can induce tolerance quite rapidly.
Avatar f tn See a primary physician and get a referral to a cardiologist. They will most likely place you on an event monitor and do some other tests to determine what should be done. I have a similar problem. My symptoms are intermittent and coincide with emerging memories. I was diagnosed with Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation. A fast, irregular heart rate can damage your heart through possible blood clots. It is a serious condition and needs medical attention.
Avatar f tn [citation needed] Translating this reaction to human conditions gives a pathophysiological explanation for PTSD by a maladaptive learning pathway to fear response through a hypersensitive, hyperreactive and hyperresponsive HPA axis.
1532724 tn?1292253962 Your symptoms might not all be related to your PTSD. It could be a reaction to any medications you're taking or a physical problem. Medicine is so specialized these days that medication interactions seem to happen more and more frequently. Doctor A isn't aware of what Doctors B and C prescribe so you can never assume they're all aware of what the others are doing for you. Your pharmacist is a great resource to help you determine if the meds are problem.
Avatar f tn I was picked on as a little girl, sexually and verbally abused up until the age of 16. I got into IV dugs at 17 and my ptsd was masked for about 4 years. I am a month away from being a year sober and after 6 months of rehab, my ptsd is is like the bully at school and that holds up a fist when your teacher asks what happened. I have medication. But stopped taking it because i am currently pregnant. Are any medications that is safe during pregnancy? I am also bi-polar.
Avatar f tn This was a question based off of curiosity about PTSD and the rate of survivors who may have it. The ONLY way to treat PTSD is through therapy and medications suuport if nessesary. When it comes to PTSD, it's nice to have friends but if someone wants to get better they need therapy. It's just the way it is.
Avatar f tn I have gone threw 16 medications for depression and anxiety and all I want them to do is put me back on the meds I was on from my old Doctor and I will be fine again. The only thing keeping me going is self medicating with the meds I use to be on and I'm half way fictional right now . I am getting my meds off the street. And its very costly but I feel if I don't do that I would have already killed myself. The VA does not care about us veterans that is why we are Ginnie pigs to them .
Avatar f tn But always, question and research for yourself. I hope you get treatment for the PTSD. Rapid Eye Movement Therapy was very helpful for me. If it isn't available, ask if the military can cover this with a civilian physician. After all these years, I am finally addressing the PTSD instead of psychotherapy. I hope some of this help and things go well for you.
Avatar f tn I have talked to people that have had this treatment, and they have told me it works WONDERS!! Mostly, it used to be used for veterans of war that were suffering from severe PTSD, but is becoming more widespread. I hadn't heard of it either until just about a year ago. I do know that they give you some sort of test to see if your "ready" to have it done. If you are still in deep depression or still in the middle of your anxious thoughts, they won't do it.
Avatar m tn hi there i was wondering if anyone her has been pregnant or is pregnant with a diagnosis of ptsd. well i have had ptsd for a few years now but only been diagnosed about a year.back in march i became really unwell and tried tcs which resulted in me breaking my back and then being detained in hospital under the mental health act for 4 month.
1848481 tn?1319676852 I have no idea how it even works. In the past, I've brought lists and symptom monitoring charts to give the psychiatrist because my anxiety makes it difficult to talk to doctors. I can't do that if I have to *see* the doctor through a computer screen (thats what I'm assuming telemedicine is)... how does he even prescribe medications if he can't physically write it down and hand the paper to me?
Avatar f tn I am wondering what can I do I'm in therapy for PTSD and Ive recently been place on meds. but everytime I come from therapy I feel more depressed, I'm not sleeping and when I do I have nightmares and im also reliving my accident over and over when im awake. I spoke with my therapist and told her that I didnt think this form of therapy was working for me and she just advised me to continue with it.
