Avatar f tn I have a question. I was diagnosed years ago with Generalized Anxiety Disorder with Anxiety Attacks and Agoraphobia. I had a discussion tonight with a friend who keeps saying I do it to myself. I have had this along with a diagnosis of ADD as well as Bipolar 2 and then Clinical Depression. I was wondering if Anxiety is really something that can be controlled by the mind or if it really does need to be treated with medication?
Avatar n tn My five year old son is diagnosed with adhd and generalized anxiety disorder. we have tried several meds. currently he is on 50 mg of vyvanse, 40 mg of citalopram and 2mg of abilify a day. his behavior is beyond horrible. should i just take him off meds?
Avatar n tn I do however suffer from Generalized anxiety disorder/panic attacks. I want to become pregnant, but due to the fact that I am on about 4-6mg of xanax daily..(xanax is a class D) I have not tried to conceive. I belong to a website that I will post for you to read. The ladies on it have all taken Xanax, Lorazapam, Antidepressants, or mood stabilizers during pregnancy. Their babies have been just fine.........
Avatar m tn I have a generalized anxiety disorder and a phobia of HIV and rabies. I went to get my blood work down and the nurse used a vacutainer to draw blood. However, the vacutainer holder was reused ( the nurse confirmed it is only the needle which is changed and not the holder as it does not come into contact with the patient) and now I think I will get HIV and I keep thinking about HIV until I get tested again at 3 months after the window period. luckily I have medicines however I hate this.
Avatar f tn The Zoloft might be the wrong med for you. Augmentation means adding medications to other medications. but the proper way to do this is only if the first med is actually working and you just need it to work better. If the Zoloft didn't work very well augmenting it isn't going to do the trick, you need to try a different first med. As for seroquel, I also advise people to check out this med for themselves.
Avatar f tn I am going to assume that the problem you have is what is called generalized anxiety (as opposed to panic disorder, or obsessive compulsive disorder or posttraumatic stress disorder). Broadly these are the options - 1. Benzodiazepines like lorazepam (Ativan), diazepam (Valium), clonazepam (Klonopin), etcetera.
Avatar n tn I think Effexor was one of the original medications prescribed for generalized anxiety disorder. Are you taking it?
Avatar f tn I have lived with Panic Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder for 23 years and have taken Prozac, Zoloft and Lexapro. Prozac makes me irritable, Zoloft made me sick and more anxious, and Lexapro made me too tired and took my libido away. I am 3 1/2 years sober from alcohol. Any suggestions on a medication that might help?
Avatar f tn Hi..im 20 yrs old n I just found out I have severe generalized anxiety disorder. I have not gotten meds for it yet. But I just want to know about how long after starting to take them do you feel back to normal? Cuz Im tired of feeling like im going to die or i am someone else trapped in a foreign body. And its like i am missing out on life. I just can't take the pain.
Avatar m tn You can have generalized, and consistent symtoms of anxiety, called generalized anxiety disorder GAD, without having just panic attacks, or panic disorder. Your symtpoms sound a bit more on the severe or distressing side of anxiety disorders. My questions and suggestions would be, if this is the first time you are experiencing this, yes it could be anxiety, but go to the doctor urgently to be sure it's not serious.
Avatar m tn I am concerned about your doctor, who seems to be rewriting the book. Panic Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder etc. are *real* DSMIV diagnosis. Do you not meet the critera perhaps? For those who have these struggles, medications don't cover up symptoms. Medications help aleviate symptoms. Personal choice also enters in as well. To try a med or try to work with it through therapy. Many of us do both. I've been on my meds for around 12 or 13 years.
Avatar n tn Therapy has done wonders for me to understand the way my mind processes anxiety symptoms and has taught me how to deal with them. Also the frequency of my panic attacks have decreased since going through therapy and coming to this forum has helped . My concern for you is your need for a Dr. you can trust. Maybe you should consider going to a Dr. that has a good reputation. Now take good care of yourself and keep us informed of how you are doing.
Avatar n tn I have been on Paxil for 8 years now for generalized anxiety and panic disorder. When I started Paxil I weighed 140lbs. My physician also put me on Xanax 0.25mg to take as needed when I felt an anxiety attack arising. I now weigh 191 lbs. My dose went from 20mg every day to 40mg every day. I still have panic attacks. I have so much trouble losing weight too. I am in a state of " don't care mood " most of the time.

Avatar m tn I have been battling anger, anxious feelings, worrysome thoughts, O.C.D. (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), and G.A.D. (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) for several years now. I also have a lack of positivity and energy. I am currently taking about five (5) various NATURAL Supplements from a homeopathic Ph.d. that I had been seeing. They include: ProDHA, GabaVal, Lizyme Forte, and MinTran.

619354 tn?1222576638 Keep in mind the following statistic. Patients with generalized anxiety disorder experience worry or anxiety and a number of physical and psychologic symptoms. The disorder is frequently difficult to diagnose because of the variety of presentations and the common occurrence of comorbid medical or psychiatric conditions. The lifetime prevalence is approximately 4 to 6 percent in the general population and is more common in women than in men. So my point is you are not alone.
Avatar m tn Like if you have to do a big presentation or speech and are nervous-- people can take this and it gets them through that. This seems like a very odd choice for generalized anxiety disorder. Clonodine is a drug for lowering blood pressure but it has gotten other indications of anxiety and panic disorder. It probably isn't used as a first line med though. So, again, this brings me around to wondering if you've been on other medications previously and what the result was.
Avatar f tn ve read that a pretty significant percentage of people suffering from depression also have a generalized anxiety disorder. May be a good thing to talk to you doc about if you haven't already. What jst4shanell is saying is true. They really emphasize in Karate that if your breathing isn't controlled, you lose control and your opponent picks up on it. Just a little tangent,,kind of applies here.
Avatar n tn As for your medication Lexapro is an SSRI used to treat major depression and generalized anxiety disorder. Trazadone is a tricyclic, which is older medication used to treat major depression. Different medications work differently foor different individuals and produce different side effects. If cost is an issue, I would discuss that issue with your doctor who can provide you with valuable advice about alternatives. A pharmacist is also a good resource.
1848481 tn?1319676852 m a government RN that is also diagnosed with BP II, PTSD, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (lucky me). At our facility, you go into a room, generally with a psych nurse present (sometimes not) and sit in front of a large screen tv and see the Psychiatrist while they are seeing you. Most people say once you get used to the idea of it, you don't even notice it anymore.
Avatar n tn Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is defined as chronic, excessive worry and fear that seems to have no real cause. Children or adolescents with generalized anxiety disorder often worry a lot about things such as future events, past behaviors, social acceptance, family matters, their personal abilities, and/or school performance. All children and adolescents experience some anxiety. It is a normal part of growing up.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with panic disorder mild level and generalized anxiety. I can't take this anymore! I don't enjoy my life, even though I love my life right now. I feel unreal as if I am viewing my body from outer space. I feel like I am about to die..... I've been going through that for 11 years and I am only 24. However, it has increased in the past 4 months and it happening to me everyday after sunset til I sleep. The doctor prescribed me seroxat 25.
193609 tn?1292180293 There may be several causes for it, which include excessive worry, stress, fear, anxiety, pain, grief, aging, mental disorders like depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. Sometimes other medical (overactive thyroid gland) or neurological disorders might lead to insomnia. If the condition is transient, it should resolve on its own .However, if it persists then you need to see your doctor for a complete evaluation.
865758 tn?1285952904 However, situational anxiety can lead to generalized anxiety if you do not learn new ways of coping with the stressors that brought on the anxiety in the first place. What medications were you prescribed? Some antidepressants are effective in treating anxiety; however, they can have unpleasant side-effects and actually make the anxiety worse for the first few weeks. In general, you should never rely solely on medication to treat depression / anxiety disorders.
