Avatar m tn And, if you have been on both these medications for six months your GAD should be pretty much under control. If it is not, again, its time to talk with your doctor. I'm sure you can conquer this, as I suffer from GAD as well in addition to other issues. In addition to medication you might find some adjunct therapies helpful, some of which could be talk therapy, meditation and deep breating exercises. If you're really ambitious, yoga is an excellent release.
Avatar m tn m wondering how long ago. There are medications available now that work really well for GAD and have a favorable side effect profile. The duel receptor types of medications that work on both serotonin and norepinephrine-- SRNI's. Effexor is a brand name of one of these types of drugs. Have you tried something like this?
Avatar f tn I have been suffeing with GAD for the past few months. I had this once before about 10 years ago and did not do well on meds. I am also have the same problem this time around. I am afraid of pills to begin with but I find most of the anxiety medications seem to cause more anxiety. And, of course, the tranquilizers can be addicting. Any thoughts on this subject?
Avatar m tn What is the best antidepressant medication for GAD and Severe Anxiety, that has the least side effects.
Avatar m tn I have recently started taking pregabalin for GAD and I can honestly tell that it is a miracle drug for me. It has been a week now since I have started taking 50mg pragabalin after meal. All of my GAD symptoms have gone. I don't feel severe anxiety, constant restlessness (akathesia), social anxiety, muscle tension, depression, panic attack e.t.c. Before that I was taking Zoloft, Paxil, Wellbutrin for sexual side effects, Inderrall for heart palpitation and muscle relaxants everyday.
Avatar m tn Have you been on other medications for GAD? Is there a reason he is making a choice of these two meds? Propranlonol is a beta blocker and used for short term things like social anxiety. Like if you have to do a big presentation or speech and are nervous-- people can take this and it gets them through that. This seems like a very odd choice for generalized anxiety disorder. Clonodine is a drug for lowering blood pressure but it has gotten other indications of anxiety and panic disorder.
Avatar f tn if a person is diagnosed with chronic major depressive disorder and GAD and takes lexapro and trazadone, and has been receiving monthly counciling and medication reviews for over 10 years, what is the prognosis? do these patients usually present with rigid type thinking, repressed rage, concrete thinking and inability to process in an abstract manner and severe fear of intimacy?
Avatar n tn Although some individuals are hesitant to use certain medications for a variety of reasons, I happen to be an advocate for their use, especially when they can drastically improve the quality of a persons' life. Regardless of what course of action you decide to take, if you choose to see a mental healthcare worker, please understand that results may not be immediate and that it is often a matter of trial and error to find the proper medication or combination thereof.
462570 tn?1273632977 t very effective for him. Everyone is different as we all respond differently to mainstream medications as well. I would be careful taking herb supplements if you are on any other type of medication unless you check with your doctor... pharmacist... nutritionist or herbalist.
534105 tn?1226157177 I am following a natural therapie for gad and depression, My Dr. gave me the following supplements and medications: 1- Saint John's Wort (900mg a day) 2- Colloidal minerals 3- Valerian extract (300mg a day) 4- Cortitrol (cortisol inhibitor, 2 capsules a day) 5- Royal Jelly 6- Homeopathic drops (don't know what it is, 10 drops sublingual 3 times a day) 7- 5-HTP, 100 mg a day My question is about 5-HTP and Saint John, it is possible to take both together?
Avatar n tn s often trial and error with these types of meds as to what will work best for us. Keep in mind that whatworks for one, may not for another, as we are all different. Talk to your psychiatrist about other medications, I'm sure there is something that will work for you, so don't give up. Take care.....
Avatar m tn Also my problem is mainly GAD and mild depression has come with it. Currenlty, I am taking pregabalin for GAD. Wonder drug for me. I am little concerned with it side effects such as infertility and birth defects. Apart from that I am very happy with this med.
Avatar f tn This drug is for the GAD, but not if it's just for the insomnia. If it helps with the GAD it will apparently help with the insomnia, but antidepressants aren't sleep aids. As the above suggests, melatonin is for sleep. A lot of people are put on drugs that have an unwanted side effect of making people sleepy, but that doesn't make it a good choice for sleeplessness.
Avatar m tn I have had Gad for more than six months now. I really do not get much relief from my meds. I only get good rest and relief from my symtoms is when I am sleeping. I am just wondering if Gad a cureable disease or is it something I am going to have to live with for the rest of my life? I am 19 years old and I would love to be able to go out and have fun rather than just sit home because I feel terrible all the time. No one understands how I feel and always tell me to just not worry about it.
Avatar n tn There are other medications that are quite useful for GAD, so not being able to take benzo class of drugs will not be a problem. But since you are so sensitive to medications, I suggest you meet with a psychiatrist who can go over your medications from the past and find the right one for you now....
Avatar f tn Any suggestions on a medication that might help? I cannot wait for a month for it to work and am nervous to try benzo's due to the addiction factor, though I have not had experience being addicted to pills other than adderoll when i was in college. WOuld Celexa be a good thing to try? I just would like to have help with ideas to take to my doctor. I have my first visit with him this week and am sick of the cycle.
1255936 tn?1296623461 What is the dose for treatment of such disorders and not just a low dose for sleeping? I hear 25mg is really not high enough to be effective for GAD or anything else other than a sleeping aid (why anyone would take a anti-psych for a sleep aid is beyond me). I hear that 200-300 mg is the dose for treating GAD, BP, and depression. I will be seeing my doc tomorrow to discuss increasing the dosage. Any input from anyone on the "front lines" would be awesome! Cheers!
535882 tn?1396576685 Everyone reacts to medications differently. Cymbalta is good for depression in those who also suffer from chronic pain. I am not that familiar with either one but you say you have been taking the lexapro for 10 days so see if it will work for you. I would give it a month or two anyways and then if it doesn't seem to be helping try the Cymbalta.
Avatar m tn My doctor said that I had GAD so I was just wondering as well what other medications could be suitable for this other than lexapro. I really want something to work because I really want to try to get off the xanax as soon as I can.
Avatar f tn if I do go to a doctor want does anyone think they may have me take for PTSD, GAD and Disrythmic disorder or long term depression I have ideas just wondering what seems to be what they are doing these days I have had this for a very long time and have been given many anti depressents that usually made me sick is there new medicine now please help
Avatar m tn I Voluntarily entered a crisis stabilization center for 30 days. While there, I was diagnosed with GAD, SAD, Major Depressive Disorder, and PTSD. Upon diagnosis I was prescribed Zoloft 75 mg, Trazodone 50 mg, and Vistiral 25 mg PRN. I started these 3 new medications June 2nd and go for my first follow up appointment since leaving the treatment center on Monday. The Vistiral is doing absolutely nothing for my anxiety... no prescriptions for Benzos in the treatment center I was in.
Avatar f tn Hi. I started Prozac 10 mg for GAD and Panic 3 days ago. I'm suddenly noticing increased anxiety. Is this a common side affect? If so, will it subside pretty quickly? I'm feeling worse than before:( Thank you!
Avatar f tn Ive tried many anti-depressants, none of them did anything. I have mild depression but GAD is more extreme right now. So doc tried benzos, ativan & clonazapem...both did nothing. What else can i try for my GAD? I can't sleep at all at night because im constantly worried and thinking about stuff. I looked up buspirone online & beta blockers. I get a lot of performance anxiety so maybe beta blockers would help for that?
Avatar m tn re looking for people with GAD, let me be the first to announce with great pleasure that you are holding the right lottery ticket -we are ALL about GAD and his nasty gang of accomplices. It could be worse, you could have ended up in the gifted, rich and too well-adjusted forum. All that said -and all kidding aside, one of the important things you did NOT mention was therapy under the guidance of a psychiatrist or other qualified mental health professional.
