Medications causing muscle weakness

Common Questions and Answers about Medications causing muscle weakness

drug

Avatar n tn Worst case this can progress to the muscles cells dying, releasing their contents and causing kidney damage. If you are taking any statins, niacin, or fibrate medications to lower cholesterol and you get symptoms of muscle weakness or pain you need to 1. stop taking them and 2. go to your doctor to see if the medication is truly the cause of your problem, or if its something more serious.
Avatar n tn can someone explain the symptom called muscle weakness? I have been experienceing this i think. I had an MRI and it came back normal but I continue to have this weak muscle feeling in all 4 limbs. It doesn't, however, affect my strength level...it's just a sensation. So how do you describe the term "muscle weakness" when reading about MS symtoms. Thank you.
Avatar f tn But for some reason and this is getting worse I have shortness of breath, dizziness and nausea as well as extreme muscle weakness in my legs just walking around my apartment. And climbing the stairs.....almost unbearable! I was diagnosed about 4 or 5 years ago with neuropathy an carpal tunnel. What could be causing these symptoms? This discussion is related to rapid heart beat, chest pain, shortness of breath on standing/walking around.
Avatar f tn The short answer is that all of the above - hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or other can all cause muscle weakness. Muscle weakness in the muscles you are talking about feeling weakness in, like from pushups (triceps, deltoids, maybe biceps and trapezius) are associated with hypo and hyperthyroidism though, so I think you're on the right track to look in to your thyroid hormone level as a cause, but I can't say it is definitely one of those, or which one it is.
Avatar m tn I have been given dial medication (Etodolec two times a day, Methycobal 1500 mcg, and Paracetamol) and advised complete rest. However, since last three days, I am experiencing muscle weakness in my legs and arms and today the weakness is severe in legs so much so that I have difficult in climbing down or up stairs. Though my pain in the legs have improved! My bladder control is fine and having no tingling or numbness. What should be my course of action.
1388486 tn?1279771419 But sometimes this muscle twitching appears as atrophy and weakness of muscle as well. Most likely cause of this twitching with weakness or atrophy of muscle can be when the nerve supplying to tongue, lid muscles is not functioning properly due to any neurological disorder. If you suffer continuous weakness and notice reduced strength of muscle bulk in leg, please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the possibilities here.

Avatar f tn Does the pain and weakness I am experiencing sound like the muscle weakness that is a sign of ALS? I am not really sure what that kind of weakness feels like. 2. Does cramping pain usually come before weakness in ALS? 3. Will the EMG test for ALS even though it's probably going to only be of my right leg? 4. What else could this be? My doctor suggested that I may have pulled something in my leg, but that doesn't explain my other limbs aching.
Avatar f tn Currently I am on Neurontin 1200 mg a day, Soma 300 mg a day, Midrin prn for the really bad headaches and Lortab at night for pain. I do not like to take meds and honestly these don't take the pain completely away. I haven't had surgery yet, still seeking out opinions. I have been through 2 rounds of PT, but this was before I knew I had Chiari. The first round was hurtful to me as they did mechanical traction and made my symptoms worse.
Avatar m tn I have never had a cat before and I just got my 5 month old kitten spayed 4 days ago and she is experiencing weakness in her right rear leg. I wasn't sure if this was due to muscle weakness due to the incision or if they could have possibly caused nerve damage. I can't seem to find anything online about this, so I figured I would see if anyone knew anything. The vet wont be open until Monday so I can't call, but I will call then if it doesn't get any better.
Avatar f tn For the past 6 mos. I have experienced, increased muscle weakness in my legs, starting in calves, moved to thighs and now is in my arms. My GP has done full blood work, urine & stool analysis & ruled out heart/circulatory and rheumatoid arthritis. The sharp, electrical type pain, I have in my legs arms and lower face are getting so bad, I now walk with a cane & climbing stairs, kneeling or getting up from a squatting position causes me to cry out.
Avatar f tn I’ve ran it by my doctor a few times and he doesn’t say much other than yes it can be serious but not to worry unles you start having tremors or muscle weakness. I’m wondering if I should get it looked into anyway because it’s worrying me and giving me anxiety. Not only that but it’s super annoying. I take vitamins and I take a good magnesium every day. Doesn’t seem to help much. I thought maybe it could be just “nervous ticks” but would it be that constant?
1282678 tn?1275186261 Can anxiety cause muscle weakness and poor circulation? My hands turn purple and red depending on temp. I am always dizzy and my muscles feel like jello and stiff and the same time? normal for anxiety?

Avatar n tn Bystolic gave my right shoulder and arm the same crushing pains, muscle weakness...especially at nights. I had no quality of life...I had to stop taking it...although pain is subsiding it still pains tertible even after 3 weeks of stopping taking it.
Avatar n tn Muscle weakness and muscle spasticity go hand-in-hand, in my opinion. The same problems that cause muscle weakness (nerve damage) can also cause spasticity (the nerve isn't communicating with the spine properly.) For example, I have an atrophied muscle in my right leg. This causes my right knee to be weak. I also have a spastic muscle on the outside of that same leg, running from the knee to the ankle.
1679858 tn?1346765181 Is muscle twitching a common Chiari symptom? I recently started taking Clonazapam for anxiety, my doctor wanted to see if the lump in my throat was from anxiety or something worse...it disappeared :) but I wonder if the twitches are from that drug (which I do not intend to stay on) or are a sign of something more serious. With yoga classes lately, I started getting aching arms and legs. Seems to coincide, as I started yoga in Jan. and the aches started in Jan.
5759924 tn?1374704061 Been looking for answers for over a year now as to why my muscle weakness has not subsided. My muscle weakness is generalized, my arms, legs, neck, and back. First noticed the weakness when I was washing my hair in the shower, I could barely hold my arms up without feeling over exerted. It all started with lymph node swelling in the left posterior and supraclavicular regions in my neck. The swelling lasted for 5 months so my ENT had one biopsied.
