Avatar n tn t leave any lasting marks, even without treatment. The most common treatment for angioedema is antihistamine medications. Serious angioedema can be life-threatening if swelling causes your throat or tongue to block your airway and leads to loss of consciousness, and that may be an explanation for the syncope and can be life threatening. Both hives and angioedema are usually caused by an allergic reaction, to either a food or medication.

338416 tn?1420045702 Chances are that the antihistamine was a histamine H1-receptor antagonist. Many protein based allergens (bee/wasp stings, etc.) seem to trigger histamine H2 responses. Since Copaxone is a copolymer, histamine H1-receptor antagonist may not work well. The histamine H2-receptor antagonists, like cimetidine (Tagamet) or ranitidine (Zantac) and famotidine (Pepcid) might actually work better. I know, it sounds goofy, but the histamine response causes the acid pumps in the stomach to turn on.
Avatar m tn I didnt get any symptons until I was 41 and our collective beleife is that my case was triggered by something happening in my body (i had lived overseas for a number of years and a few night before returning to Australia I had a bad dose of food poisioning) I then took aspirin which created that whiole salicilate binding triad thing creatying an allergy to all of those sort of medications that are known to aggrivate angioedema (aspirin, ibprofen, ace inhibitors and estrogen based meds).
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Your symptoms could be due to zenker's diverticulum, more so as it is one sided and it is present for a long duration. Angioedema is swelling of the deeper layers of the skin due to an allergic reaction. The reaction occurs more commonly on the face around the lips and near the eyes. And this is usually visible, so it is unlikely to be due to angioedema.

Avatar n tn I now know that the drugs Neurontin and Lyrica can produce angioedema, but how can I be sure it is not from something else. First with Neurontin 300 mg. HS on 5th morning my lower lip looked slightly swollen and white underneath as if I had had Botox. A month later I was put on Lyrica 50 mg. HS which was really beginning to resolve the C7 radicultitis when I awoke on day 13 with both lips slightly swollen, thick, same whiteness below lower lip. That was yesterday morning.
623944 tn?1244035490 These patients typically have levels thyroid peroxidase antibodies. In general, these patients had severe chronic urticaria/angioedema and no other signs of thyroid disease although some patients had a slight goiter. Treatment with levothyroxine caused improvement in the urticaria and angioedema. When treatment was stopped the symptoms returned and then subsided with the continuation of treatment. In the patients without evidence of thyroid antibodies, levothyroxine had no effect.
Avatar f tn He also took me off Lisinopril since the ACE Inhibitors can cause Angioedema. The Angioedema has not been as severe since, but I still experience both problems. I have also noticed hair loss since March. I just had the TSH test for my thyroid levels, and they are normal. I have no idea what could be causing it. I am taking 3 different meds for the hives, which still don't seem to give me enough relief and also make me extremely drowsy.
Avatar f tn Hi, The treatment of your angioedema depends on the type of angioedema you have. There are several types of angioedema and you may have one of the following: acute allergic angioedema, non-allergic drug reactions, idiopathic angioedema or hereditary angioedema. The swelling occurs when small blood vessels in the subcutaneous tissues leak watery liquid. It is important that you know which type you have for proper management. Take care and keep us posted.

For chronic or especially troublesome outbreaks of hives, your doctor will probably order a course of prescription antihistamines. Treatment with oral corticosteroids will sometimes reduce swelling when antihistamines don't work, but they are usually reserved for more severe cases.
1792792 tn?1315355724 It definitely does sound like an allergic reaction to something. What she's breaking out with are probably hives. Even though she lived with the dog for six years prior, it's still possible the dog has something to do with it. Has your dad changed the shampoo he uses on the dog or anything that he puts on teh dog? The other possibility since it only seems to happen when you are at your dad's house is that something else in his house is making your sister sick.

Avatar m tn Shortly after starting this drug I was diagnosed with idiopathic angioedema (random body parts swelling). Was assured by my family doc and allergist that this could not be from the statins....so stayed on them for several years and used antihistamines to control outbreaks. This past November I started getting headaches, tinnitus, sharp muscle pains in my legs at night, numbness in my arms at night and shortness of breath (climbing some stairs would wind my pretty quick), frequent heartburn.
Avatar f tn I am trying to figure out if I have one of the many forms of angioedema. But the response I saw to "angioedema/anaphylaxis - the same thing? is one of the better summaries I have seen. Myself I am going to the Doctor Monday and see if he ran a C1 inhibitor functionality test when they drew blood on March 2 which was my first instant unilateral/self healing swollen lip experience. I don't have any abdominal pain so maybe I don't have Angioedema.
Avatar n tn I have chronic urticaria and sometimes have angioedema ( lip swelling). I have stopped taking doxepin HCL because of side effects of weight gain. Am taking one Allegra in the AM and one Zrytec at night for about 3 days. The itchy rashes are a big annoyance. I have been allergy tested for food and have no food allegies. Any suggestions?
