coughing

Avatar n tn Syncope is the medical term for "passing out" and fainting or passing out with harsh coughing is not uncommon, whatever the cause of the cough. The cough may be due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but you should not assume that. If you smoke cigarettes or marijuana, that could be the cause. But, you should check out the cough with your doctor on this and, at least, have a chest x-ray. Most chronic coughs can at least be controlled, if not totally eliminated.
Avatar m tn My son who is 12 is having episodes of coughing up blood every 60 days --it started in March of 2012 -- it sometimes starts with sharp pains in his right side (front) -- or sometimes he just coughs up blood -- the coughing up of blood lasts for about 20 mins -- he coughs up about 1/2 of a specimen container of blood -- he says it feels like there is something he needs to cough up -- he coughs -- not too hard - and then spits into a cup and it is blood.
Avatar n tn The medical term for your husband’s attacks is, Cough Syncope (fainting or passing out). The immediate cause of this fainting is the hard cough that causes reduced blood flow to the brain and can quickly deprive the brain of oxygen. However, there are many causes of sudden hard coughing, one of which is what is called Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or “heartburn”) that irritates the larynx (voice box).

Avatar m tn For some insight, the complications of coughing can be classified as either acute or chronic. Acute complications include cough syncope (fainting spells due to decreased blood flow to the brain when coughs are prolonged and forceful) can be an explanation of passing out. Nevertheless, your boyfriend should get a workup on the respiratory and the cariovascular system to rule out a serious medical condition.
Avatar f tn Upon closer expection i noticed a little red dot, a little bit bigger than a full stop, on the foamy head of it, i didnt think anything of it and dug it out with my finger and wiped it away and it was gone. It wasnt until recently i had realised that it could have been blood or something and could have been infected if some of it had gone into my drink. This was back in April of this year, in mid august i had the flu quite badly, infected chest, fever, fatigue and coughing fits(no sore throat).
Avatar n tn My 3 year old was diagnosed w/ Type 1 diabetes about 9 monthes ago. I am very worried about the long term complications of (& low)high blood suger. His readings are usually over 300 in the afternoon. We have tried several different insulin combos (Lantus, novalog, novalin). It's a constant battle to get him to eat the right things at the right times. He has woke up in the morning w/ seizures a few times due to low blood sugar & is almost always on the low side in the morning.

Avatar n tn The shortness of breath and hand tingling could be anxiety, but the slipping away and coughing up blood I know of no non-medical reason for. Avatar m tn Something tasted weird when I coughed so I spit it out in the sink and it was bright red blood. I drank a bunch of water and then didn't have to cough anymore. I am really scared I don't know what this means. If its relevant, I smoke weed around 3 times a week and I had smoked the night that I coughed. I also had a few beers that night. Not sure if this is relevant. I also use a juul(e-cig). Im a little overweight but not too much at all.

Avatar n tn Hello. I've recently had a cold and lately I've noticed that every morning when I spit out some phlegm there are streaks of blood in it. When I started coughing, it wasn't there then but after a few days of coughing really heavily it started. It only happens in the mornings though after waking up. No blood comes up the rest of the day no matter how much I cough. It's been going on four about... I don't know, 2 to 4 days now.
