In the East, the most common mode of Hepatitis B infection is vertical, from mother to child. In the
West, it is horizontal, from sharing infected needles. Hepatitis B is also transmitted sexually. In China, a significant portion of patients were infected during mass vaccinations for other diseases and common needles were used. So using an contaminated needle in a medical setting is also a possible route of transmission.
