Avatar m tn OK so what does this have to do with pain? One of my good friends is a doula and she says that the women who use the breathing techniques that are core to the program swear by them. (not the swearing during labor!HA!). The more that they had practiced (often with the husbands) the more effective was the pain relief and the relaxation of the muscular tension!!
Avatar m tn How is your breathing? If you shallow breathe, this causes the muscles in the neck to be come tense. No amount of massage will improve the situation if your breathing is not corrected - the problem will persist. Learning how to breathe correctly is the first step. To be able to breathe correctly, all the muscles around the ribs in the front and back need to be freed up so the lungs can expand. I suggest doing yoga and meditation to relax the body and free up the breathing.
Avatar f tn The trip down was fine, but the trip back today was in rain, hail, wind and snow. Needless to say now in more pain than ever. I had a massage while there, concentrated on the head, neck and shoulders. Masseuse commented I had a major major amt of tight muscles and knots. (Gee, I already knew that! ) I've been home an hr and half, and still am "buzzing". I hate to take too much vicodine, but wondered about the patch. Any answer appreciated. Thanks.
172023 tn?1334672284 Is it simply expected that a man gets a...ummm...*special* ending? Is this only offered at the shadier places? Or is it simply something that is expected that you will get? Men only, please. I like to know what makes you guys tick. Feel free to elaborate. I used a Poll so that you could keep your anonymity, if desired.
1383825 tn?1315232262 I even shelled out $$$ for a deep tissue massage my neck hurt so bad. The massage helped a lot, but then today, the pain was back. In a different spot on my upper back. Do you know if this could be from detox? Oh and if anyone else has this problem, I ve also found relief from a back massager - you press it into the tight spot and get some relief from the pain. I 'lll do anything to keep from taking vicodin. That's my plan!!!
Avatar f tn Hello, This all seems due to the sore and stiff muscles, which never comes in a test but our physicians are more dependent on the diagnostic tools rather in examining and finding the right causes for the problems. What I know about this might be the dryness of the body which is bringing all these unwanted changes in you. As per my knowledge of Ayurveda this is all about your Vata body type and related things. Google it and certainly you will find some genuine answers for this.
Avatar f tn s perfectly fine. The warning about the calf massage sending u into labor is just a pressure point of some sort. Just let them know.
1549138 tn?1293932007 Sometimes I lightly massage the lumps for a while, they slowly decrease. I do not have tools to massage how I want to, and my fingers get tired quickly. But, I found a website that discusses this problem and promotes a massage tool suited to deal with it. I have not used the tool, so who knows. But I'll see if I can find something like it at the mall. Here is the link to the article: https://www.painscience.com/articles/tension-headache.
748543 tn?1463446075 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
Avatar f tn Thank u so much for the update on the Occipital Nerve Block ...I am happy to hear it is working for u......keep us posted for ne changes u notice.
Avatar n tn I am also seeing a massage therapist but the massage helps for a little while and then the pain returns.
Avatar f tn So I started seeing a chiropractor a few weeks ago. Almost a month at this point. He had X-rays done. And showed that my neck is the worst. Phase 3 spinal degeneration. 5 out of 7 vertebra in my neck not moving and the natural curve in my neck at the point it's curving in the wrong direction. I also have what he called slight scoliosis and some issues in my lower back but stated my neck is my biggest concern at this point.
Avatar m tn I frequently do the same one as above-- pushing on the corner (where the jaw line connects under the ear). I also massage from that point all along the jawline, down my neck, up the temples. Use pain as your guide. You really cannot do any harm if you are stopping when your pain is telling you it hurts and to stop. There are two muscles that are in the mouth, the masseter (biggest) and pterygoid (smaller and tighter),and you can touch them both from the inside and out.
Avatar f tn for while now i have bad neck pain it seems to be coming from middle of my neck when the pain arrives it makes me very dizzy and can knock me of balance..its not very nice when this pain is hitting me...
Avatar m tn ) The neck pain starts at the very top of my neck and makes it feel as if my head is too heavy. The pain can travel down the sides of my neck and into my arms and hands. Ive been going to massage and acupuncture for the past month and have noticed no difference. What could be causing this pain?
Avatar m tn I went to get out of bed to visit the washroom and the sharpest pain I have ever felt shot through the back of my neck into my head. It has been hurting ever since, for 3 wks now. I am not one to rush to the Doctor for every little thing, I realize that muscle spasms occur and they take along time to go away sometimes. I have never had neck pain before and it is so bad that I have been taking Xstrenght Ibuprofin for 3 wks now, every 4 hrs.
Avatar f tn I have had it too. I woke up one morning and I couldn't even lift my head off the pillow because my neck was so sore. That was a year ago. It is sore daily now and nothing seems to help it. I have tried icy hot, neck massage, motrin and had some flexal for muscle cramps but it didn't work either. It seems like it is going to work, then I run out and it starts all over again. I was thinking about going to a chiropractor myself, or acupuncture.....gotta do something.
Avatar f tn For years now i've had a pain at the base of my neck on the right side, it hurts if I apply slight pressure, I suffer from headaches, which if left almost always turns into a migraine but they always start at this point in my neck, it feels like a small lump, if I apply pressure to it & deep massage it it hurts like hell but does slightly ease the pain, could this be a tension knot? If anyone could help it would be much appreciated!
1448936 tn?1363206346 Are you in counseling right now? For me, therapy gave me the tools and knowledge to confront it and attain long term releif from it. I also believe that the SSRI I was on helped me tremendously as well. Combined, I believe they both worked well to help me deal with it.
Avatar f tn Try putting a towel in the dryer or a magic bean and put it on your neck (i have alit if issues with my neck and this helps relax the muscles)
Avatar n tn Hi everyone My NL (who knows nothing about chiari :) ) suggested that I take a muscle relaxer for my tight shoulder & neck muscles and see if that helps anything. I told her I thought I had some at home from being prescribed them randomly over the years so she didn't give me a prescription that day. I have some 10mg Flexeril at home and some 100mg Norflex ER. Anyone take either of these? Which would be better for my tight neck/shoulder muscles?
285580 tn?1194705350 Yes, I had 2 MRI's, 2 x-rays done and looked at by a top neurosurgeon and physiatrist (same office). I have mild bulging on my C5-6 I think and a small bone spur but nothing that is causing the pain I'm having. They said people with no pain probably have worse MRI findings that I do. The x-ray came out clean. Basically, it looks like I'm dealing with soft tissue injury, muscle pain and possible ligament damage (that is healing slowly).
Avatar f tn Try going for a shoulder and neck massage. You could have knots which cause headaches. Im an rmt and whenever i get a headache i release my muscles and it goes away instantly.
Avatar n tn The problem with massage is that it is often not covered by insurance as is PT. But the Physical therapists do the same thing of massaging as a massage person would if they know what they are doing. It has also helped me a lot. Make sure though you get a good one.
Avatar f tn Releasing the back of the neck from your front muscles of your neck is common. I did medical massage which was a life saver, saw a chiropractor and did physical therapy. All helped significantly. I would consider getting a full evaluation. Now, with the chiropractor, I had a huge issue with my neck being - cracked- up high, so they used other procedures.
