Avatar f tn 5 cm anterior to right temporal lobe was found. He has c/o forgetfulness, h/a, and had a severe manic episode with auditory hallucinations and paranoia. Could all this be related to his cyst? No family history of bipolar disorder. Also, what would treatment be? Surgery? Expected recovery time? What are chances mania will recurr?
Avatar n tn I have Thallasemia Minor and thought I was just lazy because the Drs. said it has no symptoms. I also had some depression and anxiety attacks. My dad, brother and son have it, too. They don't seem to get as tired as I do, tho. I can relate to that vision thing, too. I wear glasses, but sometimes I just have a hard time seeing clearly.
Avatar n tn There is a wealth of information in this forum, website and on google. As a beginner try here : http://www.bipolar.com.au/understanding/ Is there a person in your life you are asking with this in mind?
574118 tn?1305138884 Starting from 2006 my 1st mania i have symptoms that are frequent, but i deny them because it will open a new hell for me which i am tired to investigate. It happened that i have less concentration, restlesness, boredom, attention is low. I read sometime ago that this typical ADHD. I know my father has this pretty well. But also my father is OCD but all this for him is mild. Today i went to buy a suit and i had no patience in sorting out something good. No patience and i want to end everything.
589461 tn?1286436465 Basically once upon a time there was a catch all term for mood disorders called Manic Depression -- this has now split thanks to research into 3 core diagnostic silo's if you like - the actual symptoms of the silo's can vary but there are generally a number of core ones which are used in diagnosis - these are most commonly referred to as diagnostic criteria in a book known as DSM-IV - this stands for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders nd the IV is because its in its 4th revi
Avatar n tn I could not find anyone else who had had a mania symptoms with niacin. However, it was clearly what I was having. My daughter was hospitalized with mania on Wed. (2 days ago) and I am starting to wonder if her situation was aggravated by the 500 mg of niacin she has been taking over the last 2 weeks or helped. She is now on Olanzapine (50 mg) at bedtime until she gets a consult with an outpatient urgent care. DOES NIACIN CAUSE MANIA?
Avatar m tn I would say no honestly.. I looked up on Wikipedia what the official symptoms are and they are as follows: Unstable interpersonal relationships, affective distress, marked impulsivity, and unstable self-image are the primary features of BPD. Individuals with BPD tend to experience frequent, strong and long-lasting states of aversive tension, often triggered by perceived rejection, being alone or perceived failure.
Avatar n tn BP is usually difficult to diagnose this is classical knowledge e.g. see wikipedia so the person gets manic i.e. becomes a BP pt after a trial and error many times of drugs i.e. by drug abuse. You are welcome to post here any time or to PM me and everybody in this forum tries to help. Let him subscribe here too. Part of recovery is to socialize. Try to raise a pet it helps a lot. To be busy all the time divert his thoughts from depression take care and everything will turn out right.
Avatar f tn When depressed you are unable to get through the day. When manic you try to do too much at once and get nothing done. Or you have anger problem. And then there are the darker aspects like self-harm and suicidal ideation, putting you at risk of being around yourself. You coudl start having paranoia and psychosis and intrusive thoughts. To top it all off, although you are struggling with an illness you meet people all the time who tell you that bipolar is a fake illness. You're not really sick.
574118 tn?1305138884 For example when I took 100mg seroquel if sedated me without touching the depression or psychotic symptoms and it wasn't until it was raised to 400mg that it started to work as a mood stabiliser, and even then the depression persisted. You tell me your depression is mild, adel but if you are having thoughts where you feel you wish to die then that gives me the feeling that it is more serious than you think, and needs to be addressed as such.
Avatar m tn I am not bipolar but I do have more of a unipolar loss of interest and apathy along with some of those other depression related type symptoms you were speaking of. I know that it affects my relationships with others but I also spent some years on the psych med merry go round to no avail. I am now just kind of letting it ride and this is not the first time in my life I have had substantial clean time but it is the first time I have had substantial clean time and no psych meds.
Avatar n tn Predictors of mania recurrence were initial mood-congruent psychosis, lower premorbid occupational status, and initial manic presentation. Predictors of depression onset were higher occupational status, initial mixed presentation, and any comorbidity. Antidepressant treatment was marginally related to longer time to recovery and earlier relapse.
Avatar m tn 2 My account also provides a statement of my most recent experiences in the last two years, 2007-2009, with manic-depression(MD) or BPD as it has come to be called in recent years. Some prospective analysis of my illness is also included with the view to assessing potential long-term strategies, appropriate lifestyle choices and activities in which to engage in the years ahead.
Avatar m tn Bipolar disorder (BPD) or manic-depressive disorder (also referred to as bipolar affective disorder or manic depression (MD)) is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a category of mood disorders defined by the presence of one or more episodes of abnormally elevated energy levels, cognition, and mood and one or more depressive episodes. The elevated moods are clinically referred to as mania or, if milder, hypomania.
544292 tn?1268886268 Various withdrawal effects may include shakes, shivers, diarrhea, nausea, and possible flu-like symptoms. Not all people experience will all withdrawal symptoms, and some people may experience others not listed here. The length of time withdrawal symptoms occur can range from a couple of days to weeks depending on how high your dose was and how long you were on the drug. Withdrawal symptoms can be reduced by discontinuing use of the drug slowly (i.e., gradually reducing the daily dose).
1037594 tn?1258565779 I have no idea where that psychiatrist got his ideas from. I am very familiar with natural remedies taking several under clinical supervision for tardive dyskinesia and also a compound (glycine) in Phase II FDA study for schizophrenia (in my case schizoaffective disorder) under strict clinical supervision and some of them I started after I did online research which I printed out and brought to my providers and they did further research from clinical sites and approved.
683309 tn?1227331683 As for the others mentioned. St. John's wort is used in Europe for depression. It will make a person with bipolar manic. Tryptophan is potentially dangerous. Starflower oil, primrose oil, green seaweed, wheet grass are all unproven in any studies. A high protein diet would not have mood effects. I was suggested to take a B Vitamin complex and Vitamin C for mood stabilization. It didn't do anything for mood stabilization but it is healthy overall.
Avatar f tn I have always had the compulsion to have sex when manic. A drive so strong it over rides any I have. I have also had issues with guilt, depression, and detachment. I want the sex but as soon as it happens I feel like ****. I am seeing many of the same traits in all of use. Their truly is a pattern to some of the behaviors. Sadly the cure is unique to each person. That of course is a very simplified version of the problem...
Avatar m tn I do not attempt in this now quite lengthy account to describe this period of my life in more detail, nor do I discuss my death wish or my suicidal tendencies during the many years of BPD beginning in the last months of my adolescent years, in October of 1963, during which I experienced the death wish for the first time due to the intensity of my first depression. Before the official diagnosis of manic-depression in 1980 my death wish was only associated with a few periods of intense D.
647754 tn?1270040511 I was diagnosed with Bi-Polar, Major Depression, Panic Attacks, and Paranoia several years ago. I am on alot of meds right now. I am on Depakote 500mg x 2 @bedtime, Gabapentin 100 mg x 2 capsules 3 times a day, Lunesta 3mg for sleep @ night, Clonazepam 0.5mg 3 x a day, Lexapro 20mg x 2 @ bedtime, and Budeprion 150mg every am. I went to my Psychiatrist yesterday and because I stay depressed she was going to take me off the Lexapro but did not.
1390055 tn?1365618655 I was suffering from depression-like features while taking it. I remember walking across the street on Concerta as a kid and my dad telling me to smile, and I replied back to him "Why? I don't see the reason anymore." This was me at 14 or 15 years old. As anxiety increased, we returned to the doctor, and she prescribed me with Celexa to counter-act the anxiety. At this point after being prescribed the Celexa.
Avatar m tn Fluvoxamine(luvox) removed the blacknesses, what some have often called the black dog of depression that had dogged my life, mostly late at night, mostly since the late 1970s and which continued even after I went on lithium in 1980. Periodically, as I have already described above in the years 1963 to 1968 I also had these intense blacknesses/depressions.
Avatar n tn Are all types of Bipolar the same, in that they are proven to have increased symptoms as you age?
Avatar f tn These mood swings, anxiety and depression could very well be the result of the detox. I am attempting to cope with my symptoms by using exercise and trying to stay in the game. I am a full time student and about to get my bachelors degree in English from the University of (my home state). I gained a ton of weight on methadone, but through a lot of hard work and exercise (no magic pill or surgery) I lost it all. I am 36 and in the best shape of my life.
Avatar n tn The major withdrawal symptoms lasted just over one week but I still feel that I am experiencing some mild symptoms. Could I be right? I have a question... has anyone heard of phantom pain after withdrawal? I have pains that I'm not sure there are a physiological reason for. I would love to hear from anyone who needs support or has answers to my questions.
