Avatar f tn TMS is generally used for treatment refractory depression but it has been used on treatment refractory schizophrenia as before my current recovery (and before TMS was clinically approved) I considered being a participant in that study. Before you would even consider that though you should have your psychiatrist try a combination of all available mood stabilizers and antipsychotics depending what they think is going on.
724388 tn?1231372047 t tell the exact difference but a psychiarist could. Also you said you had manic depression. Of course now the term is bipolar. The treatment for that is different from depression in that mood stabilizers (Lithium, Depakoate, Lamictal, I found Lamictal to have the best side effect profile) are used and anti-depressents would worsen mania so its important to be detailed with a psychiatrist. Do you experience mania or moodswings overall beyond depression?
1226240 tn?1269719467 The longest my manic episode has gone on for is 3-4 months this year till now. Half the time I didnt even know I was in a manic state until it all started going downhill, then I back tracked and realised that it all started from a bit of excitement.
Avatar n tn Some have more of the aspect of depression with occassional manic episodes. I have schizoaffective and have experienced the bipolar aspect of it but someone who has straight bipolar could explain more. However, I am familiar with the experience. What you are likely experiencing is rapid cycling, going from manic to depressed in a short period of time. That's extremely common. Also if you have anxiety disorder as well or that's part of the bipolar it could set off a manic episode.

Avatar n tn Some mood stabilizers treat mania more easily than depression (although Lamictal generally treats depression well) but each person responds differently to each medication. If his psychiatrist doesn't have any more ideas you could seek a secnd opinion but ask them what might be the appropriate next step within their clinical discretion. Also note the use of medication and dosage are different for a younger person and you could discuss this with the psychiatrist as well.
Avatar m tn Been bipolar for most of my life but did not understand it. have been manic since jan 2010 and it could'nt have come at a better time. my spouse is ill and had to get her through it. The diagnostic 'bar' for labling someone as 'manic depressive' must be high, because of the risks of the medications that are needed to control this illness, among other factors.

458384 tn?1295720656 s fire, purifying the faith of a believer, but manic depression itself, can mimic the behavior of someone growing in her spiritual life. That's great news for me! The next time I get manic and tell an inappropriate joke to a colleague, I can say that I'm just getting closer to God, that's all. A confusing statement, but a true one, I believe. For PMDD, the treatment is with anti-depressants which are a big no-no for those with bipolar disorder.

You can have thoughts of grandure or enflated self esteem. Become more goal oriented. Feel like you can do anything. Have increased sex drive. Become involved in risky or dangerous behavior.
Avatar f tn PLEASE tell me which symptoms of these anyone can relate to. I'll try to make this easy to read. -I don't know if I am depressed or bipolar. Haven't had any manic "highs" in years, and don't really care about anything that really used to excite me, like sports. -Been on A/Ds for 8 years. Many different combinations. Effexor seems like it worked for a while, but seems like it wore off. Currently on Lamictal and Abilify.
