Are you pregnant? Macrobid is pregnancy category B--- used in pregnancy. Cipro, the gold standard is pregnancy category C--- not the best choice for someone who is pregnant. Amoxicillin isn't the best choice at all for a UTI based on the common bacteria that causes UTI's. Every infection is caused by a specific strain of bacteria. Some antibiotics are going to work better on different strains of bacteria.

6 weeks ago, I took a course of Macrobid (generic) for a UTI. After completing the 7 day cycle, I developed excruciating heartburn, to the point of tears. The following day (2 days after Macrobid) I started itching (scalp, chest, neck, arms...) This has gone on for 6 weeks! I have been to the doctors, ER, allergist to no avail. ALL of these professionals claim that pruritis (chronic itching of the skin) could NOT be caused from an anitbiotic this long after completing it.

I know exactly what you're going through...I have a history of kidney stones and UTI (with pregnancy and without) and I went in for blood in my urine and back pain...and they said that my urine was clear (no infection) and everything else looked fine..but that because of the blood they prescribed macrobid as a preventative. I did NOT take it, and I think I should have.

Then symptoms returned and again ecoli put inpt on imipenem for 10 IV doses and dc with macrobid for 7 days. Then culture positive for ecoli again now ESBL. No UA has ever shown WBCs but cultures grow bacteria and frequency, urgency, nocturia and burning present. Can you have a UTI with NO wbc's present in UA and bacterial growth on culture? I had UTI and treated with Ciprofloxin ,after my family doctor changed the medicine to Macrobid 100 ( 2 times/day) for ten days.2 Urine tests are done and still the symptons fo Nitrofuratoin are available ,Dr says we have to continue .Internal physical rectal examination said right enlarge ment of prostrate. I am 44.PSA test shows high 62 .Doctor is still taking this as Prostitis.I have been asked to get another PSA after 10 days of Microbid course.

ve had an iron transfusion, but have had one before with no problem. Does anyone know or have experience with these side effects?

DOES MACROBID CAUSE BLEEDING OR MAKE YOUR MENSTRUAL CYCLE COME EARLY. I JUST FINISHED MACROBID 7 DAY TREATMENT. MY MENSTRUAL CAME 3 DAYS EARLY AND THERE IS BRIGHT RED BLOOD AND USUALLY MY MENSTRUAL BLOOD IS NOT THAT BRIGHT. I INITIIALLY WASNT DUE FOR MY MENSTRUAL UNTIL YESTERDAY I'VE BEEN BLEEDING SINCE THE 3RD AND IM STILL BLEEDING BUT NOT ALOT LIKE I WAS YESTERDAY AND THE DAYS BEFORE BUT THE BLEEDING HAS LIGHTENED.

I do know that the weakness and numbness in one side can be caused by the MS, but it did not occur until i took the macrobid. I was stopped from taking the macrobid and started on it 2 more times and each time the weakness returned. Is there anyway to fix this? It is getting rather annoying and saddens me cause it feels like i cant do anymore what i like to. If anyone has had the same thing happen, please let me know im not alone... I go to the health fair in my town every year. This year I got my tests back, today & am a bit freaked out. ALL my liver enzymes are high. Alkaline Phosphatase, Normal 33-115--- MINE-154 AST, Normal 10-30--- MINE 46 ALT, Normal 6-40--- MINE 134 GGT, Normal 3-55--- MINE 279 I've had a slightly elevated ggt for the past 5/7 years, since I had gallbladder surgery, but not any of the others. I was put on an antibiotic for my first ever UTI the week before my health fair tests...

I know you are probably nervous though; especially with this being your first pregnancy. I was the same way with my 1st. I have 5 now though and have taken that and all my little ones were very healthy at birth. You will feel better after the 1st or 2nd pill.

Are you taking macrobid for a uri? Macrobid is the safest antibiotic durning pregnancy... It has no side effects during pregnancy, I took it when I was 5weeks and the Dr, so the pharmacy tech advice it was safe!!!

I've never had a uti. I'm 27 and this is my first one they put me on macrobid. It seems I'm using the bathroom every 30 minutes. Before I went to doc to see what was wrong I wasn't peeing like this...has anyone has this before? Did macrobid make you pee a lot and tired??

I took macrobid almost every month that I was pregnant with my first son! It worked well when I could keep it down. There was no side effects except turning your pee an orangish color!

But i just read online that it should not be taken with any vitamins, antacid, etc. I am a bit worried now, because I wasn't expecting this, I drank alcohol last weekend and the weekend before, and now on antibiotics. Hi.. has anyone else taken macrobid for uti?? Is it normal to feel horribly sick with it? How did you all deal with the nausea? My doc gave me reglan but it doesn't seem to be helping and I'm hardly half way with macrobid.. I've been non functional while taking it and it's getting worse every day. Does the antibiotic macrobid used to treat uti's decrease the effectiveness of birth control? Because I'm on the pill and I shouldn't get my period for another week and I've been bleeding.. Earlier this year after a bladder ultrasound I was diagnosed with irritable bladder syndrome. I had a trial of amitriptyline 10mg daily to treat the symptoms, but had side effects (weakness and drowsiness affecting my ability to work) even when quartering the tablet (2.5mg). I've had 3 uti's this pregnancy, therefore I have been put on macrobid for the remaining of my pregnancy. I have to take 1 every night until I deliver. Started @32 weeks am now 35+5. No problems from it yet. I haven't had any syptoms of uti so I would never known if it weren't for the urine soles at Dr. Office.

I am 16 wks. pregnant and my OB prescribed Macrobid for UTI, i had urinalysis and small amount of blood was noted.
