Drugs like penicillin and sulfa group of drugs are most common cause for hypersensitivity reaction. As you have a history of penicillin allergy. If your body is hypersensitive to sulfa, reaction will be similar to that you develop for penicillin. Each individual are known to respond to a drug differently in drug allergy. If the drug is too much sensitized then it can cause more severe reaction.

Macrobid is a sulfa drug. it would not be effective for most TD pathogens. It is widely used in preganant women becasue is is proven to be safe in this circumstnace.

i recently found out that im 2 weeks pregnant and iwas on antibiotics(doxyclyn and metrronidazole) for bacterial infection before i took the test ,i want to know if this has affected the baby or me.

ve had THE SAME urinary tract/kidney infection since December/January of this year. I have received antibiotic shots and taken macrobid off and on since, but it has not gone away. I am now on a different antibiotic (4x a day), but do not feel any better. This isn't the first time this has happened. A few years ago I had the same problem. I tried every antibiotic (cipro, zithromax, amoxicillin, etc.) and macrobid was the only one that killed it.

As far as macrobid, it is a sulfa drug. It has activity against a number of gram negative bacteria which casue UTIs but little activity against STDs. there is limited activity against chlamydia but theraeutic benefit should not be assumed.

Hi.. has anyone else taken macrobid for uti?? Is it normal to feel horribly sick with it? How did you all deal with the nausea? My doc gave me reglan but it doesn't seem to be helping and I'm hardly half way with macrobid.. I've been non functional while taking it and it's getting worse every day. Any advise on dealing with it will be appreciated..

I and my husband received IV continous infusion Clindamycin treatment times 7 days and the followup testing showed we were both positive with clamydia. I still have pain in my right kidney that I usually have with chronic UTI. I am taking Cipro now for E. facelis but infection will not go away. It is too the point I don't want to have intercourse with my husband. Also did two months of oral macrobid and clarithomycin both I and my husband. Don't know what to do please advise.

My uti is gone... got another antibiotic for that (MACROBID) A cream clotrimazole and Betamethasone Dipropionate and azo pee pills. and would you believe it... after trying to call my Dr all week... she didn't even have the nerve to see me or talk to me... SHE CALLED my prescriptions in!!!!!!!! OH.. Gets better. She also didn't have the courtesy to treat me for my uti which is what stirred this all up... DONT worry I got it covered!!

I am 16 wks. pregnant and my OB prescribed Macrobid for UTI, i had urinalysis and small amount of blood was noted. I told my OB that my urologist said that im always will have blood in my urine beacuse of hx. of cyst in my kidney so I requested to have urine culture prior to taking Macrobid, my OB is insistant to start the med. since it is going to take awhile for culture results to come back. so im already in my 4rt day of the meds.

Then next time the doctor prescribes her on another type of antibiotic and then same thing happens, she is okay the first time she has to take it and usually the second but around the second or third time over a course of 3 to 5 years, she gets the urticaria again after taking the same antibiotic that she used for 3 or more years. Then the same pattern happens with other antibiotics that she has to take for a UTI etc.

I JUST FINISHED MACROBID 7 DAY TREATMENT. MY MENSTRUAL CAME 3 DAYS EARLY AND THERE IS BRIGHT RED BLOOD AND USUALLY MY MENSTRUAL BLOOD IS NOT THAT BRIGHT. I INITIIALLY WASNT DUE FOR MY MENSTRUAL UNTIL YESTERDAY I'VE BEEN BLEEDING SINCE THE 3RD AND IM STILL BLEEDING BUT NOT ALOT LIKE I WAS YESTERDAY AND THE DAYS BEFORE BUT THE BLEEDING HAS LIGHTENED. THE BLEEDING WILL COME OUT IN MY URINE I WANT TO KNOW WILL THE BLEEDING STOP?

Was in the ER weekend before last. Diagnosed me with a UTI, and put me on Macrobid 100mg BID. Got a call yesterday, they said my culture reads that the bacteria in my urine is resistant to Macrobid. So apparently they didn't do a Culture and Sensitivity test when I was in the ER like they should have. I had to pay $50 for the Macrobid that I took, that didn't and wouldn't do diddly-squat for my "UTI". I think I was misdiagnosed and mistrated with the Macrobid.

yes I have been to the doctor and told that they are UTI's...and my husband has good hygiene so I don't think that's the problem...perhaps I am just more prone to getting them! And I'm not familiar with a macrobid...what is that?

I do know that the weakness and numbness in one side can be caused by the MS, but it did not occur until i took the macrobid. I was stopped from taking the macrobid and started on it 2 more times and each time the weakness returned. Is there anyway to fix this? It is getting rather annoying and saddens me cause it feels like i cant do anymore what i like to. If anyone has had the same thing happen, please let me know im not alone... I was proscribed it. I habe two different drs and im.being induced monday. And it DIRECTLY states dont use it 37 weeks or later or close to delivery. .. im scared and this pregnancy is so freaking hard on me. Im getting to the point of giving up. And i dont want to cause my boy and family need me to fight.

s an inflammatory response. And it gets better when the uti is healed and enough time passes for normalization. The antibiotics kill off bacteria causing the uti which then reduces inflammation. around the 5th day I noticed I had hightened anxiety in the middle of the day and night where I just started to panic and thinking about my future and just kind of feeling hopeless out of the blue. Then last night and today I have been struggling with the worst anxiety and depression at random moments, unlike anything I have ever had. Luckily I am finished with it at this point but is this normal to have these strange anxiety/panic moments while on an antibiotic?
