lyrica

Avatar f tn I take 300 mg of Gabapentin 3 x a day and it helps my fibro quite a bit..I can't take lyrica, my hands and feet swell, I also take meloxicam 7.5 mg 2 x a day ...
603838 tn?1238534975 I have been on a beta blocker (metoprolol) for about 8 years now and I also take Gabapentin to level out my moods. I have read that both of these meds can interfere with conversion of T4 to T3.
1318483 tn?1318347182 I was on 2700mg gabapentin daily before we gave up and I am up to 200mg Lyrica 2x daily. So you can see the comparison there. I don't know if your new pain in your feet is a side effect. Sounds like a new symptom and as the rules state, over 24 hrs means you need to notify the dr.
Avatar f tn Hi...Gabapentin is not a generic for Lyrica, but Neurontin...Lyrica is used to treat Fibromyalgia....and many times chiari is mis-dx'd as Fibro...the symptoms for chiari r similar to many diff conditions which is y getting a dx can be diff and many drs r more familiar with the other conditions then they r with chiari, so they feel it can not be chiari. http://www.google.com/url?url=http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar n tn Gabapentin and Lyrica are in the same class of anti-convulsants and have similar actions. However their side-effect profiles may differ somewhat. If you are finding that the side-effects with gabapentin are tolerable then it would probably be best to increase the dose under doctor's advice. There is a long way upwards that you may go with the dose before reaching the upper limit, as Jason80 points out.
Avatar f tn s the only thing to calm the tingling and and pulsating. I find that Lyrica has a lot of side effects so I take gabapentin as my morning dose and Lyrica as my evening dose, simply to not endure the side effects. Hope this helps.
1218873 tn?1300091216 m now taking 300 mg of lyrica, plus 900 mg of gabapentin (ended up adding that back in after I got to 300 mg of lyrica and the dr didn't want to go higher, though I have seen the max dosage at between 450 and 600 of pregabalin).
634733 tn?1316625992 Gabapentin and Lyrica are anti-seizure medications (this class of drugs also reduces neuropathic pain) that effect the voltage gating of calcium channels in the nervous system. Just about all of the anti-seizure medications "can" (but not always do) cause weight gain. These drugs decrease certain neurotransmitters and increase neuronal GABA levels.
1345254 tn?1325918041 I was on a lyrica regiment for about 6 months and in regard to side effects, never had any adverse reactions that were of concern. At first the Dr started me on gabapentin (neurontin), but that stuff really messed with me. Within a week, I'd wake in the mornings horribly dizzy..It would take me a couple hours just to get feeling somewhat normal. So the Dr switched me to the lyrica..
1805240 tn?1317228731 Lyrica is sometimes considered a stronger form of gabapentin. Gabapentin is generic for Neurontin and Lyrica is brand name for Pregabalin. There have been several posts online from patients taking Lyrica, saying that the side effects are more severe than with Gabapentin. I have never tried Lyrica so I don't know if that would be the case for me. Everyone is different though.
Avatar f tn I would just like to say thank-you to both of you for taking the time to reply.
Avatar f tn Lyrica shouldn't be stopped abruptly. You should call your doctor for advice. You're describing withdrawal symptoms. Check out the substance abuse forum for some tips on feeling better Staying hydrated is very important. Keep us posted on what's going on with you.
Avatar n tn Lyrica is an anti-convulsant that helps with nerve pain. I am prescribed gabapentin (brand name is Neurontin), which is in the same family. If you just started the Lyrica, give your body some time to get use to the medication. If the side effects persists after a couple of months, I would bring this to the attention of your physician. I have heard the side effects of lyrica can be more irritating than with gabapentin.
293157 tn?1285873439 Hi everyone, I was wondering how many friends here take either Gabapentin or Lyrica...I'm just wondering if it's a common drug to use... and if alot of people use these meds for tingling, leg pains, etc. How many have used either of these and stopped them because they didn't help or because of the side effects? How many use either of them and which one do they prefer? I'm in the middle of this... and need some advise on it.. thanks for any replies...
5485096 tn?1375574235 t go on Gabapentin .. Since I swelled so badly on lyrica it is too high risk for Gabapentin too I guess My last resort is steroids .. Day one today .. I just want to tear up .. You all know how much I don't like steroids :( I am going to be so out of sorts the next 2 weeks But... Positive side: -I am going to Cuba in a month..
Avatar f tn Yeah, you should be on at least 600mg of Gabapentin to be equivalent to the 100mg of Lyrica (approximately). Lyrica made me gain weight too. Have you tried Topamax? That one makes you lose weight. It's an anti-seizure med too. Just a thought.
1983221 tn?1333506185 Lyrica and Neurontin (Gabapentin) are in the same class of drug and have similar side effects profiles.
Avatar f tn second day without the pain pills! But the doctor today gave me gabapentin for pain is it addictive? I dont need another addiction.
Avatar f tn I had a stroke in May of '12 and have chronic neuropathy in the right side of my entire body. I was put on Gabapentin by my doctor and was taking the Maximum a person can take in a day which is 3600mg a day now the doctor has backed off the Gabapentin to 900mg + added 450mg of Lyrica so far I don't feel a improvement, the Gabapentin was controlling the Nerve pain with hydrocodone 5-325 tab morning and noon but so far I haven't found any cure to just be normal again.
1637739 tn?1371688706 I came off Gabapentin about 2 weeks ago and I was on 600 mg gabapentin and am now on 175mg Lyrica. The jury is still out on the weight gain issue as it is too early for me to be able to monitor any changes. However I am not very pleased to see that grannyhotwheels thinks lyrrica is the worst. I may end up reassessing this change but will give it a few months first.
Avatar m tn ve also heard that lyrica is similar to gabapentin. But I heard that lyrica is gabapentins big bad brother meaning that it is much stronger. I have also heard that lyrica has the potential for abuse. But I have also read of people abusing gabapentin. I'm prescribed gabapentin and I have no idea why anyone would want to abuse it as all it seems to do is make me sleepy and foggy headed. Then again, people would probably try to abuse motor oil if they thought it might alter their brain!
Avatar f tn when the pharmacy switched to the generic, I had similar psychological side effects similar to those from Lyrica and Gabapentin (confusion, stupidity, suicidal thoughts,...) I can only take the name brand. I have to pay hundreds of dollars for this, but the shooting nerve pain is so intense that I will continue to pay it as long as I can. I'm afraid for when I can no longer...
Avatar m tn I was given lyrica for nerve pain in my legs about four years ago. I didn't take a lot of it, only about 50 mgs every other day. My pain got worse, so I asked the doctor if I could double the dose. Doubling just the first couple of times caused swelling in my mouth and around my eyes, so I dropped lyrica altogether. In no time I was hit with xanax type withdrawal symptoms: depersonalization, lack of concentration and dizziness being the most frightening.
372680 tn?1228161610 ve only been on it two days, with a much lower dosage (was taking 1200mg gabapentin/day versus 75mg Lyrica once at night!) and much much much better results (I only take one or two 300mg gapabentins a day). The only down side is that it makes me sleepy, but I'm sure that will wear off a bit or completely once I'm used to it. The other thing is that while it makes me sleepy, it does not entirely combat my chronic insomnia, but it does make it easier to cope.
