Avatar n tn My doctor put me on Lyrica and Klonopin and it seems to help a little, although the pain does intensify and the pain medication does not work for it since it is nerve pain. My doctor is referring me to a neurologist. So if you do not have TMJ, you might want to bring up Trigeminal Neuralgia to your physician and see what they say.
Avatar n tn I am surprised that given the severity of the pain caused by TN you are not on a stronger opiate. Lyrica is usually an effective nerve pain medication. If you have not been to a PMP I highly recommend that you ask for a referral and get a complete work up through a PM Clinic. There are other approaches to the management of TN than what you are receiving. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. I will be looking forward to your updates. Hang in and don't give up.
Avatar f tn Both meds were taken in conjunction with amitriptilyne. Meds for nerve pain are mostly off label uses for drugs. This means they are intended to treat something else. because of this there is no "written" methodology for prescribing them. You can work wioth your doc to find the right dosage and combination to treat your pain. It may take a while, because these drugs need to be titrated, but it can be done.
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone give me any views on carbamazepine for pain please?
Avatar n tn It also seems worse when her stress level is higher Here comes the part, I do not understand, she has no pressure points on her face that start the pain, also an ice pack, reduces the pain, when I understand cold is usually a trigger for atypical trigeminal neuralgia -- Since her pain most times starts mid afternoon and continures to build into the evening, some days she is in bed by 8pm -- all this seems opposite of the symptoms, I have seen for TN The Dentist, 2 root canals, 1 crown, 2 b
Avatar m tn Flexeril is a muscle relaxant, not a medication for nerve pain.
Avatar f tn I had a sliped and fall accident 3 moths ago. I fell on the left side of my face and brusied the trigeminal nerve per neurologist dignosis. I'm taking Lyrica for the sharp pain under my left eye. I have being told that the nerve will regenerate. How long that it usually takes ?. This discussion is related to Will bruised nerve regenerate fully?.
Avatar n tn s symptoms one treatment option is surgical. The trigeminal nerve system includes a body of nerve cells called the gasserian ganglion, and in patients with severe, refractory TN the gasserian ganglion can be ablated (literally meaning burned, intentionally damaged) to prevent transmission of impulses down the nerve. This is often successful but as with every surgical procedure there are risks and side effects, including the occurrence of facial numbness.
Avatar m tn Hello Dear, The condition looks like trigeminal neuralgia caused by trigeminal nerve which is responsible for sensations of the face. The cause is probably a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Tumors and multiple sclerosis can also cause it, but in some cases the cause is unknown. The pain is sudden, severe, electric shock-like, stabbing that is typically felt on one side of the jaw or cheek.
Avatar f tn I use it for Trigeminal Neuralgia. I currently take 600 mg 3x a day. It has helped with SOME of the nerve pain in my lower back too.
Avatar n tn What tablets are you taking?
359574 tn?1328360424 She gave me a little anatomy lesson sketch and explained why the suspected aneurysm on my internal carotid is unlikely to be the cause of my TN, as the 1st branch of the trigeminal nerve is pretty far away from that artery. She said she had been asking some others what they thought and someone suggested a nerve from the back of my head wrapping around to the eye, but she pressed all over and couldn't make the pain worse.
Avatar f tn I continue to have recurrent pain and headache in the trigeminal nerve distribution. I am on Lyrica, which does help, but I continue to have increased hypersensitivity in right forehead, righteye, right side of nose and pain in eye, temple (very sensitive to palpation), TMJ, and back teeth (toothache pain in back lower right tooth). I also have soreness in right side of throat.
Avatar n tn At least she has a lot less pain she has had for the past year or more. (as for the Lyrica she takes small doses -- I believe before Bed, (since that tends to stay in your sytem) to avoid most of the side effects.
405614 tn?1329144114 I apparently have a lesion affecting my trigeminal nerve; my neuro-ophtha noted a lesion on my pons, so that might be the culprit. I just wonder if it's growing or something. Like, a new attack. I sent an e-mail to my neuro's office; I'll see if I get a response.
Avatar n tn t want to operate on me through MVD because my pain is bilateral and my pain syndrome is not that of trigeminal neuralgia. My pain specialist suggested a sphenopalatine ganglion block (a surgical invasive procedure) but my mum wouldn't hear of it. I feel a little less pressure when I tilt my head backwards, and can feel the nerves in my nose vibrating more intensely when I massage the back of my head. I have suffered a lot alot through the 1.5 yr, but the pain remained the same.
Avatar n tn lyrica is mostly for nerve pain..I just had fusion...lyrica is of little help..side effects are not great..dizziness, loss of concentration etc..
Avatar f tn I took gabapentin for years, for both restless leg syndrome and some relief from nerve pain. A year or so ago, my Sports and Spine medicine doc suggested I switch to Lyrica, as it is more powerful, you take lower doses, and clears out of your system better than gabapenting does. I was taking 800 or 900 mg. of gabapentin a day, sometimes more. I did get used to it after a while, so that it didn't make me drowsy, by the way. I switched to 50 mg.
1359227 tn?1282522148 I have given it to alot of patients with nerve pain; it worked for some and not for others. I have never taken it personally. You should just take it and see if it works for you.
Avatar m tn I took neutontin for several years until it started to take more and more to acheive the same level of pain relief at which time my Doctor switched me to LYRICA 75mg 3 times a day. Except for the occassional flare up the LYRICA seems to work.
405614 tn?1329144114 t help with nerve pain. I take Lyrica which is good for nerve pain, but my insurance only covers so much a month, so my PCP prescribed the Tegretol in case my trigeminal neuralgia should flare up; it knocked out my last flare up quite well. It is great for nerve pain, especially TN. I took 13 days of Amoxicillin to get rid of the infection, and it should have taken care of it, but it got way up in the bone; hurt all the way up to the side of my nose.
