Lyrica for sciatica

Common Questions and Answers about Lyrica for sciatica

lyrica

Avatar n tn But in the past two years I have had a flare up in my neck causing me to have headaches and a flare up in the back going down my side. I was on Lyrica for the headaches and they went away. The back and side pain gradually subsided and I stayed pain free for 5 months. Now it started in the back again and I feel pain all through the back muscles, down my right side and occasionally the left side into my groin area on left side and sometimes down my right leg.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I have sciatica symptoms and am wondering what drugs other than Tylenol and Ibuprofen, I can take for Sciatica pain, that isn't contraindicated with clonazepam. I have been on clonazepam for 30 years for cyclic vomiting syndrome/abdominal migraine. The sciatic pain is now intermittent (low one day high the next) and I have had it for 3 months. I see my NP tomorrow and wonder if there is anything I can suggest or ask for.
Avatar f tn I stumbled onto some studies of PEA several months back and bought some for my dad due to his sciatica and carpal tunnel pain. Within a few days of starting it his carpal tunnel pain was gone. His sciatica is a bit more stubborn. The pain has reduced a fair amount, so he can do more activities than prior to PEA. But he still gets some pretty bad flairs (usually after doing things he typically does not do due to pain). So overall I would say it is well worth the cost to try it.
237152 tn?1206651036 neurontin is NOT lyrica, but it is in the same type of drug class... i recommend it for anyone looking for an alternative for chronic pain...a nonaddictive alternative...
874521 tn?1424116797 t wait to be done with this Lyrica!!! Before the Lyrica I was on Cymbalta and only stayed in that for about a year and had to quit it bc it was making me feel bi-polar, my moods were all over the place and so much crying!! I was definately suicidal, and suffered from bad "zaps" like sticking your finger in a socket except it would zap and jerk me all over especially I'm my head/brain leading to migraines.
Avatar m tn I had sciatica for sometime and found it crippling. During the course of a check-up my GP did a check for Vitamin B12 levels and I was very low. B12 is the only vitamin that cannot be directly absorbed by the body and requires a gland in your stomach to emit an enzyme to allow it to absorb. As you get older this gland can stop working. They will do a blood test looking for an "intrinsic factor" to see if your stomach is capable of absorbing B12.
1340994 tn?1374193977 With kidney problems, fatty liver, diabetes, and bipolar disease, what can my brother-in-law take for severe nerve pain in his legs? His PCP believes it's sciatica from his spine problems, although I'm sure the diabetes is also a likely culprit. Is there any medication he can take for the severe pain he's in?
Avatar m tn Yes I have that and it sounds like sciatica to me. Sciatica for me starts in the left buttock, down my thigh and some days can go clear to my toe. There are some stretches you can google to help you loosen that up but I know it isn't any fun when it flares up. I found a chiro years ago who really helped me with it and I haven't had much trouble since. Hoping you find some relief!
Avatar f tn m sorry to heat about your sciatica. I too suffer with sciatica. Do you know the source of the pain for as you know sciatica is a symptom and not a condition. Treating sciatica often means treating the cause of it. If it is a chronic condition that does not have a treatment plan than obvious you must treat the symptom. As Sandee said there are medications that treat nerve pain such as gabapentin and lyrica. If you are not on one of those I would consider discussing that with your PCP.
874521 tn?1424116797 I also developed sciatica which I thought was FM and have been on gabapentin for last 5 yrs(works good)...I found out this is totally unrelated to FM...but rather neuropathy from degenerative disk disease. and was put on oxycontin. my leg muscles have become progressively worse lately...they are so stiff and painful I walk straight legged and waddle, they ache constantly. Is this a worsening of FM? and if so what do people use that really works?
Avatar f tn The Lyrica and Amitriptyline are both used as Pain Blockers, and they are both very good medications for doing so. I used to be on Amitriptyline. Now just on Lyrica for my chronic burning pain from my sensory neuropathy. I would take them as they were prescribed, as they will help you with the tingling and nerve pain. I am 55 and also have Moserate Lumbar Spondylosis. Much of my neck and spine (tailbone) pain turned out to be Arthritis. You might want to see an Arthritis doctor as well.
Avatar m tn Physical therapy will usually help a lot for stuff like bulging disks. If the disk pushes on a nerve in the area of the spine, it's going to hurt. I might suggest you also really tighten up your stomach muscles, it helps support the lower back tremendously. And I knew a person who had sciatica, from nerve pain radiating from low back down his leg, and he did yoga for a year or so, and it went away...which is a lot like doing physical therapy, so PT does help.
Avatar n tn Are you on anything for pain? Myself along with many others have gotten relief (for the sciatica) from a medication called Neurontin(Gabapentin) or Lyrica(Pregabalin) you need to talk to a doctor about these meds. They are not narcotics, for sciatica IMO they are much more helpful than narcotics.
Avatar f tn t take any anti inflamatory medication because of the pregnancy so it was only complete bed rest and Tylenol for 7 weeks till I gave birth at 37 weeks via c-section to relieve the pain. Since the birth it's been 6 weeks and my case is the same even though I've been taking Lyrica, various anti inflamatories and oxycodine. This morning I took a cortisone injection and starting feeling a little relief but as soon as I took a shower and walked around a bit all the pain came back.
Avatar f tn I reported that I am having shooting pain from my buttocks to my toes, with some weakness on both legs, and also from my arms to my fingers. So, the doctor doubled my dosage of Lyrica, which I should actually take for two weeks. I saw on my medical certificate that she's considering sciatica. Today is the third day of my intensive Lyrica treatment.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Lyrica for about 2 years and am now down to a 1/2 dose on it. I have fibro/CFS and was taking OC the equiv of 64 percocet a day, and I'm only 120lbs. The Lyrica has given me my whole life back!! It works for neurological pain, as does Neurontin. For me, just me, it has been nothing short of a miracle as I was looking at taking full disability due to the fibro. The Cymbalta they say helps with the pain and depression, I take that as well.
Avatar f tn I have bilateral sciatica with nerve pain and have been going to a pain clinc for the last 6 months. About 2 months ago I was prescribe Oxicodone the 5.35 (something like that) tablet. Twice now (including tday) the urine test have come back negative. The pain doctor said he could no longer prescribe them for me because the drug screening is 100% fool proof. He practically accused me of being a liar and told me he thought I was selling the drugs.
Avatar f tn Nothing of significance in the area I am experiencing pain/discomfort. Lyrica has helped but hast taken away the burning/pinching. Ibuprofen/muscle relaxers only occasionally help. Any ideas out there?
Avatar f tn I have had sciatica it has not been permanent for me. I have had three bouts in 11 years most lasted about a month at a time. There was the discomfort and the last two times. I did use it as an excuse for pain meds but honestly I did not need them. It was just a good excuse too.It is nerve pain there are a few drugs out now for nerve pain all of which are non narcotic. I would have him look into something like lyrica or nerontion.
Avatar f tn For two years I have been experiencing severe pain in my left hip which radiates down the leg to the foot, as well as numbness and tingling in both feet and pain in the toes. The pain is worst when sitting down, lying down or bending over, and as a result i stand most of my waking hours. It is suspected to be sciatica, but I have not been able to obtain a diagnosis, largely because the CT_Scan and MRI of the lower back, which show some minor problems, show no nerve compression.
Avatar m tn Hi Steve, no your right you really shouldn't ever take someone elses medication. that said taking too much aspirin is also dangerous, Tylenol would be a much better alternative as long as you stay under 2000 mg daily. Yes it certainly does sound very much like sciatica, I have had this for years. Question is have you injured your lower back or is it possible you have degenerative disk disease? Or an inflamation that puts pressure on the sciatic nerve? Are you having any lower back pain?
Avatar m tn Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with a doctor. Without the ability to examine and obtain a history, I can not tell you what the exact cause of the symptoms is. However I will try to provide you with some useful information. In most people, the pain of a herniated disc resolves over 4-6 weeks. The most severe pain actually eases up within 1-2 weeks.
Avatar f tn Ive found the only thing to help is HYDROTHERAPY, your Physio should be able to sort this out for you, if not gentle swimming can help to keep you mobile. Sciatica also travels to the feet, which can lead to a condition called PLANTER FASCITIS, your physio can check you for this, orthotics and exercises can be helpful, also strapping your feet for support. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn ve been on gabapentin(neurontin)1400-1800mg for abt 5 years for sciatica...and other nerve pain. It has been a God send for me allows me to sleep at night without that throbbing pain. gabapentin is an anti-seisure medication, there are others in this catagory that I'v read that are also good.
Avatar n tn Of course there are multiple other opiates available for pain. What for me may not be true for you. I hesitate to suggestion a specific opiate as this should be between you and your physician. Often if you request a one over an other it can raise reg flags. You're much better off to tell your PCP that what the current medications are simply not controlling your pain. Explain how the pain effects your daily life in detail, ask for his help and suggestions.
7188197 tn?1399464311 I also live near one of the clinics so I can get the exercise menu tailored for me. I was cautioned against chiropractic for my extruded disc and sciatica, as it could worsen my condition. I am 8 and one-half months post-injury and while I still have some sciatic pain, my day-to-day functioning is much improved. Good luck!
