Common Questions and Answers about Lyrica and weight loss

lyrica

8186495 tn?1396915293 However, some medications used for symptom relief can cause weight gain, specifically Neurontin (Gabapentin) and Lyrica (Pregabalin). Steroids can have this effect as well. Many MSers put on weight because fatigue makes them lethargic, so they easily can become couch potatoes. That doesn't sound like you, though, as you get an admirable amount of exercise. I suggest you check with your primary doctor about potential causes of your weight issues.
Avatar f tn A lot of people gain weight from Lyrica. Has anyone gained weight and then been able to lose it again? I've gained 15 lbs and I really want to get rid of this extra weight.
Avatar f tn can you take anything other than Lyrica (weight gain problem)? Without the 325mg og lyrica /day my feet and legs do the pins and needls so much i can't stand it, can't sleep, can't think.... I am having head aches Do you think adding the Topamax will help with the head aches?
874521 tn?1424116797 Lyrica literally made me gain 50lbs in the first 2 months of use and about 80lbs all together over 5 yrs. I was extremely puffy looking and there was no dropping the weight no matter what I did! I also would severely have swelling of the hands and especially feet almost every month around my period week. I wouldn't be able to walk for about a week long each time this would happen.
Avatar f tn I actually meant Topamax woops :)
1985289 tn?1328579594 Thank you for reading my post, I will try to make this post brief, try :). I have been coming off methadone for about a year now from 120mg. I was doing pretty good until August. I was down to 35 mg. and started to have a lot of back/buttocks pain. I had surgery in Dec. for ovarian cyst removal and adhesion removal. Was down for about 3 weeks. But made it up to the clininc every wed. to get my take homes. Things have taken a terrible turn for the worse.
Avatar n tn May I ask if Lyrica can cause weight LOSS through making one 'feel' so good they can conquer all and set out to do just that. Over time, losing weight through going like a bee all day long. Feeling of elation I guess I would call it. Can Lyrica cause enlarged spleen and does enlarged spleen bulge when eating. I was put on Lyrica for Neuropathies, coincidentally, when all my gastric issues began.
210982 tn?1280983895 Some users do report euphoria at much higher levels than others, so there is a risk of psychological addiction with these people. Also, as was mentioned, there are attenuate side effects, with memory loss and weight gain being prominent. Read the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyrica and speak to your pharmacist for more info.
Avatar f tn Well she weighed 125lbs when she started and 15 months later she weighs 197lb and likes the Lyrica for her pain but is now having severe joint pain , etc from the weight gain. I already have a metabolic disorder and cannot gain weight. Its very, very hard for me to lose weight. Anyway, I know it can cause vision problems, can make you high at times, bad headaches, etc.
Avatar m tn Hi.....I have had GREAT SUCCESS using Lyrica for anxiety. It was prescribed to me for Fibromyalgia, and I was talking klonopin for anxiety. The 2 mixed together made me nod out. I stopped taking klonopin and had no withdrawals or depression from stopping cold turkey after taking anxiety medicine for years. The Lyrica prevented those withdrawals. Lyrica is a miracle drug for me. It helps both my Fibromyalgia and anxiety. Lyrica even enhances my mood and clears my mind. I am up to 300 mg 2x a day.
Avatar n tn I was started on Neurontin 900mg 3 times a day then Lyrica 100mg 3 times a day was added, I was already over weight and it did cause weight gain. I have since stopped neurontin but remain on lyrica 100mg 3 times daily. I underwent gastric bypass surgery in dec... have lost 84lbs and remain on Lyrica without anymore weight gain. I had stopped the Lyrica also in Dec and restarted in March and have had no issues with regainning weight. If it works for your pain I would remain on it.

Avatar n tn As far as I am aware anticonvulsants of the gabapentoid class (gabapentin and pregabalin, for example) are known to cause weight gain and hair loss in some people. It's listed in their side effect profile. I use clippers with a number 2 comb to disguise the hair loss...
Avatar f tn the comments help some. Scares me though i am always affraid of gaining wieght and that is why when weather is good I go to the gym. (I'm single and already have MS and vision and carerr loss against me.) i have to walk eveywhere. I have lost a lot of my vision. I am also in pre/law sicne my career was taken away because I have MS. I do as much advocacy work as I can for the MS society. I am not sure if I will be able to stay on the lyrica because I paid 28.
Avatar f tn m taking 300 milligrams of the gabapetin and was previously taking 100 milligrams of the lyrica. so sorry about your loss!! ((hugs!!)) further i think te gabapentin is causing me to gain weight :( which i do not need, as i am already overweight.

Avatar m tn In a Nutshell I have Fibromyalgia and Heamachromatosis AND I have just lost 56 kilos after Sleeve Gastrectomy. My Rheamatolidgist put me on Lyrica and I can tell you I don't know how I am even sitting here typing this. I feel so slow and off the planet. :/ My question is, WHY does the Lyrica make you put on weight. Is it just your appetite increases? Please explain how it puts on weight as I don't CAN"T put on when I have worked so hard at losing.
680499 tn?1233851308 I am on Lyrica for myofascial pain syndrome and post thrombotic pain syndrome. I am on 100mg twice a day. It seems to be helping, however I just want to eat constantly. I really don't need to gain any more weight. There are times I do feel drowsy and sometimes I feel spaced out. Hoping that some of these side effects will disappear as time goes on.
378810 tn?1201987233 I lost 40 lbs 3 years ago and have kept it off until like 8 months ago when pain doc started trying neurontin and lyrica for chronic myofascial pain..which did not work...and kept putting on weight. Now back on lyrica for nerve pain in TN but not really helping. What other drugs work that don't make you gain weight?? Okay sorry, just a downer day..or week..any input would be great on meds that work for TN..God Bless you all.
Avatar n tn I am on Duragesic pain patch, Ultram, Lortab 10 mg, and Lyrica 200mg. I noticed weight gain and swelling in my legs and feet with Lyrica and wanted to know if Topamax could replace Lyrica.
1283286 tn?1312911966 Lyrica will definitely make you gain weight and it did not help me at all
Avatar f tn In previous clinical studies, between 1 in 100 and 1 in 1,000 people taking Lyrica experienced hair loss. The exact percentage of people who developed hair loss while taking Lyrica was not reported. Because hair loss is so common in the general public, it is difficult to say whether hair loss is caused by Lyrica, genetics, other factors, or a combination of these things. If you are taking Lyrica and hair loss becomes a problem, talk with your healthcare provider.
1345254 tn?1325918041 I was on a lyrica regiment for about 6 months and in regard to side effects, never had any adverse reactions that were of concern. At first the Dr started me on gabapentin (neurontin), but that stuff really messed with me. Within a week, I'd wake in the mornings horribly dizzy..It would take me a couple hours just to get feeling somewhat normal. So the Dr switched me to the lyrica..
Avatar f tn old female also with a LONG migraine history and I have fibromyalgia. I had to go off the Topamax (the weight loss was great, but the side effects turned me into a depressed zombie). Now I'm on Lyrica, it's not yet approved for migraines but the testing is very promising, and I have had very few headaches in the last 2 months since I switched and those have been mild. I hope and think that probably your symptoms are related to the Topamax also.
Avatar f tn No that is how you should be feeling. Just be careful as it does cause weight gain. Follow a healthy diet and exercise and you will be fine. Also if may cause sleepness, so don't drive to much until you are comfortable with it.
