Lyrica and trigeminal neuralgia

Common Questions and Answers about Lyrica and trigeminal neuralgia

lyrica

Avatar n tn There are two anti-convulsants that are frequently used for nerve pain and they are Neurontin (Gabapentin) and Lyrica (Pregablin). I myself take Gabapentin for nerve pain. You are first person that I have come across that takes a different anti-convulsant from Neurontin or Lyrica for nerve pain. Both neurontin and lyrica have side effects but they may be more tolerable than the side effects from Tegretol. If you go to http://www.drugs.
Avatar m tn There is a chance of a misdiagnosis here if Tegretol is not working. It is the gold standard for treating trigeminal neuralgia. If it is not working, it may possibly be pain of some other cause. The neurologist may be able to help you sort this out.
Avatar n tn So if you do not have TMJ, you might want to bring up Trigeminal Neuralgia to your physician and see what they say. I went through 4 doctors and dealt with the pain for over a year before I finally found a doctor who instantly knew what it was and started me on a medication to help the pain. I hope this helps you some.
Avatar m tn hello, i am 26 years old, female, and i am diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, would like to know if its normal to feel pain in my ear...
Avatar n tn I may have trigeminal neuralgia in the mandibular branch. Severe pain in the lower gum area but it is on both sides which has my PC doctor, my neurolgist, my pain management dr, my neurosurgeon and my accupuncturist all baffled. Meanwhile, I am on Lyrica, which is becoming ineffective, Vicodin, which does not help much, and Ambien to knock me out at night to get some sleep. Is anyone out there who has experienced such a problem that can head me in the right direction? I am losing hope.
Avatar n tn I have saver headaches, jaw pain , and TMJ. I take Lyrica and it helps most times. I find that I need to increase the Lyrica medication very often. I take a large amount of Magnisium because my left part of my face is tight and hard to open. MY question is, I do not understand my pain, Do my pain originate in my jaw or my head? In the past I had symptoms of Try mingle Neuralgia. Could that contribute to my facial pain? Why does the Lyrica wont work all the time?
Avatar f tn Hello all. My neuro has never actually said I have trigeminal neuralgia, he's treated my imaginary facial pain with various anti-seizure meds, recently I have used the diabetic med, lyrica, which works. Question I have is, if bilateral trigeminal neuralgia is only common in ms, why can't THAT be a diagnostic aid, much like optic neuritis? Should I have asked him to NAME my facial pain? To get him to admit something is up with me?
Avatar f tn It is also used to reduce or suppress seizuress, treat schizophrenia, trigeminal neuralgia, and relieve certain neurogenic pain such as trigeminal neuralgia." As Phil said there are many other medications that are often more effective in treating neuropathic pain - medications that are newer and often more effective. If your MD has prescribed this for nerve pain I'd ask questions.
Avatar m tn I have been suffering with Trigeminal Neuralgia since 2006. I have done some reading that states people do take flexeril. Is this med helpful for nerve pain?
Avatar f tn You may need them for a consult with another TN specialist ( oh make sure you get any and ALL x-rays MRI and stuff flims and not just the reports!) I hated the meds and had a horrible time with side affects and was still having pains.. also getting into see the local Neuro was always at leastan 8 week wait. Too long to be having uncomfortable and un tollerable side affects. So I just stopped taking them!
Avatar f tn I've had TN now for 46 years. At age 9 I was the youngest to have it, but now there are babies with it (so sad). Docs tried lots of things, and every drug. By the time I was 16 they created Tegritol (carbomezapine) . By the time I was 21 they had perfected decompression surgery, which didn't work.
Avatar n tn What tablets are you taking?
Avatar n tn Two days later we went on a trip by plane, and her tooth that had the root canal - she said thoutht it was gong to blow up -- so a week later, another root canal, a crown and two bite guards, Finaly we went looked on line on Dr MD and by a web site her symptoms pointed to trigeminal neuralgia, and confirmed by her dentist and another specialist although it was only one meeting -- still the facial pain near or at the lower jaw pain did not exactly match the on and off again intense pain fro
Avatar m tn I have Trigeminal Neuralgia. I have had MVD surgery on both sides yet it returned on one side. I have been told by several dr's that there is no pain management for it and that surgery to sever the nerve is all that can be done. I am currently highly medicated and struggling to work. Please let me know if any meds anyone has found succesful. I have tried, amitriptylene, neurontin, toradol, dilaudid, dilantin, oxcarbazapine, and more!
Avatar f tn I use it for Trigeminal Neuralgia. I currently take 600 mg 3x a day. It has helped with SOME of the nerve pain in my lower back too.
Avatar n tn I too suffer from facial numbness known as Trigeminal neuralgia( the R. side of my face tingles, mynose lip and teeth go numb, too. In addition, I have Cervicogenic Headaches and Occipital neuralgia, Debilitating Pain that radiates from the base of my skull, to my forehead and behind my R. eye. I need a surgery called Occipital Nerve Decompression, featured on "Good Morning America", but not covered by my Insurance.
Avatar n tn After months at a Pain Clinic, she is referred to CCHP top guy, with all the x-rays, and notes from all the dentists and Endondinists and he also thinks this is atypical trigeminal neuralgia. She is nornally pain free in the mornings, sleeps without pain, yet by mid to late afternoon, the pain starts and seems to increase until she goes to bed many days by 8 pm but has no trouble falling asleep.
Avatar f tn Could compression or stretching of the trigeminal nerve during surgery cause damage which is causing this neuralgia and head ache. I have no infection and normal blood counts. After trying two steriod dose packs and a Zpack suggested by my neurosurgeon, I went to a general practioner to make sure I had no infection or other cause. Except having high blood pressure, which I usually have low blood pressure, everything was within normal limits. I feel the BP is due to pain.

Avatar f tn I am a 51 year old woman suffering from vagal glossopharyngeaal neuralgia (its much like Trigeminal Neuralgia but much less common. The pain comes from irritation of the 9th and 10th cranial nerves) My pain has become nearly constant and spikes whenever I am talking, eating, riding in a car. Neurotin, Tegratal, and Lyrica do not help. I have seen four neurosurgeons. The concensus seems to be that I need skull base surgery to cut the 9th nerve and a couple strands of the 10th.
