lyrica and topamax

Lyrica literally made me gain 50lbs in the first 2 months of use and about 80lbs all together over 5 yrs. I was extremely puffy looking and there was no dropping the weight no matter what I did! I also would severely have swelling of the hands and especially feet almost every month around my period week. I wouldn't be able to walk for about a week long each time this would happen.

DnnTrry- I switched from Lyrica to Topamax completely mostly because of the weight gain and cost. Lyrica and Topamax are both anti-seizure meds and do not have any major interactions, but I understand your apprehension. Also, side effects from Topamax are most crippling usually when you increase too fast. I hope your doctor didn't place you on 50mg right off the bat??? That dosage is sure to give you some discomfort.

I am on Duragesic pain patch, Ultram, Lortab 10 mg, and Lyrica 200mg. I noticed weight gain and swelling in my legs and feet with Lyrica and wanted to know if Topamax could replace Lyrica.

I also take a number of medications, including Topamax for migraine, blood pressure meds, Celebrex, asthma medication and diabetes medication. However I have had recurring visual disturbances that only happen at night. I get up in the middle of the night - to go to the bathroom - and the bathroom is covered in geometric patterns, like a checkered pattern or little lacework pattern. It's everywhere, the walls, tub, sink, floor. I feel like I'm tripping on something!

what do Topamax and lyrica do to the body and nerves?

Would like to come off lyrica in favour of topamax .how to cope with pain as it will take 6 weeks to build up to 150mg topamax?i presume I must stop taking lyrica at the outset?

Hi, The affordable alternatives to Lyrica are -Neurontin ,Topamax and Cymbalta. Since you have had no relief from Topamax, you can try the other two . if still you feel no better ,please consult your neurologist to suggest an alternative.Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !

I have been researching Topamax and all I can find is info. about seizures and migraines. Why would he give me this, and is it addictive? Anyone have any knowledge?

Hey guys do u mind if I ask some questions @ Lryica and Neurontin? I have been on Lyrica for over 2 yrs and it has helped me tremendously, but I have gained...get ready..80lbs...yeah and it is killing me. I tried to swith to the Topamax, but it made my feet swell to 4x's their normal size and I wanted to take it so much because of my weight issues. Do u really think that the Topamax was what made my feet swell. It was Thanksgiving and I had been eating a lot of Pie...

Anyway, I told him that I wanted to get off Lyrica and take the Topamax and I was telling him how I had tried to slowly go down in mg. to get off it and try to start Neurontin before, but couldn't get down to that one day of 75mg. the pain was so severe and he said that I could take them both together. That was not what I was going for, but for now I might have to, to just see how the Top. is going to do for me.

I got to the doctor on the 9th, and I am trying to put togetrher my questions and staement list for the doctor and staff. I want this visit to be a turning point and I WANT some answers or a plan ! Any comments or input appreciated!

I will let you know. I am on Lyrica and have been for about a year. I am 47 and also been on Topamax for my seizures as well. Too many other AEDs over the past 5 yrs to name . Did the Lyrica cause my "spot" on my MRI that wasn't there on my last mammogram in JUne of last year? Who knows? We will see what my biopsy reveals next Wed.

I do take Magnesium, on 100 mg Lyrica twice a day. Topamax had overdose and how petrified of it, pharmacist error started me on 200 mg then went up to 400 mg instead of 50. Very bad results. Use to be on Neurontin but didn't help with he burning I have. Had problems with Cymbalta when I originally tried it but everyone is telling me how much better I'm doing. I can't tell what should be happening or what is side effects. Voltaren didn't help much so take Napracin.

I asked this question in a reply I left to someone on the "headaches" forum, but wanted to ask you guys seperate b/c I'm sure you have had longer experiences with your Rx history... Neur. added Lyrica to my "regimen" just two days ago when I saw him. Had asked him about topamax but he said that with the added burning issues, Lyrica was "better" than topamax due to directly addressing "nerve pain"...Even after one dose that same day I knew i LOVED it!!

Lyrica is still one of the newer ones but works really well. I take Topamax and Lyrica. I take Topamax for headaches and Lyrica for neuropathic pain. My pain is well controlled but they do have their side effects.

I have been to a neurologist and MRI came out negative. He was the one that prescribed Cymbalta, Topamax, and Lyrica. The side effects from the first two meds were worse than the illness itself. I took Lyrica for a month and didn't notice any change, whatsoever, good or bad. I've been referred to a rheumatologist so I'll follow that route. And I'll try milk of magnesia.

I've never used Topamax, but it's similar to Lyrica, which I am on. Lyrica helps me out a lot. Understand that it's not like a regular "pain pill". You need to keep it in your system for it to work right - don't try and just take it when you are hurting. That's not how it works.

The pain clinic prescribed Topamax to help with my lower back pain, but I can't handle the side effects. I only took half the dose and I feel like I'm in a fog. I feel hungover and have NO energy. All I want to do is sleep, but I have a 3 year old tyrant to take care of, so Topamax won't work for me. Just had to throw that out there.

I have had and reacted to Depakote, Neurontin, Lyrica, and Topamax. The Lyrica and Neurontin was originally for nerve pain and the Depakote and Topamax were for migraines.

Hi! I'm hoping that anyone here who is taking Lyrica for nerve pain will be able to answer something for me...I'm newly on Lyrica (300mg daily) for chronic migraines/headaches and alot of burning that I've been having in my head. Neurologist gave Lyrica instead of Topamax b/c he said there's more than just the migraine issue going on b/c of all the burning. However, it's still officially undiagnosed at the present. I'm having very positive results so far.

I have severe facial nerve pain on the right side that won't go away...had it on the left side before my Chairi Decompression in 2009. My GP prescribed Lyrica...Gabapentin, Nortriptyline, Vicodin, etc weren't working...Been on the Lyrica for almost a week now and doesn't seem to be working either. Should I be seeing some results by now, or is it too soon? Anyone else had Lyrica for nerve pain like this? Or has something else helped? It is a horrible pain several times a day...
