Common Questions and Answers about Lumps behind ears

bump

Avatar n tn I forgot about it until yesterday when I was showering washing behind the ears with soap when I felt two more lumps (that are not painful) behind the ear on the neck area. I am Hypothyroid and last year I was experiencing throbbing in the ear. They ran tests and found I have a very small lump on my thyroid not to be alarmed too small for biopsy. For the past 8 months or so I have been experiencing pain in the ear when I sleep on that side.

Avatar f tn Could these bumps be normal or just cysts perhaps, by the way they dont show up as lumps behind my ears I can just feel them under the skin, they are very small about pea kind of size and as I say have never bothered me (I dont get a disproportionate amount of unexplained headaches and they dont hurt t touch).
Avatar n tn Lumps that are painless behind the ears are not uncommon. Sebaceous cysts is one which is a build up of oil and skin tissue over time. Lipoma is another which is a fatty cyst. Neither are serious. I would guess it is one of these two things. See your doctor to confirm.
Avatar f tn she is under the hospital at the min as she used to suffer with major ear infections there awfull arnt they normally shes very groggy and have fluid come out of ears neva had the lump tho thankyou for all ur advise it does really help
Avatar n tn So I have these weird bumps in my ears. I thought they were lymph nodes when I first googled but then I realized that I had more in my actual ear lobe. There is one behind my right ear that hurts, it's on the boarder of my neck and ear lobe but i would say more my ear lobe. another behind my left and then another on the side of my outer ear lobe. The one on the left behind my ear is not sensitive to touch but the others are. No other symptoms of ear infection.
Avatar f tn I was at the doctors and they said none of my lymph nodes were swollen but arent those lumps behind ears lymph nodes? And if one were to be infected would they stay that way for like 4 months (thats when I noticed them)? thank you in advance.
Avatar n tn Lump behind the ear which is hard could be an abscess, folliculitis (hair follicle infection), an infected cyst, an inflamed lymph node or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). However swollen lymphnodes behind your ears could be due to chest infection, tonsillitis or pharyngitis, dandruff, or infection of ear. The inflamed nodes settle down with time. However, it is important you consult a doctor and get this examined.
Avatar n tn I began to develop smaller lumps in the back of my ears, 3 behind my left ear and one behind my right ear. The lumps are very tender and even hurt when I look up or turn my head in different directions. I've also been getting prety bad headaches the last couple of weeks. Is thias something that I should be worried about?
Avatar f tn Many oils are released behind the ears via the sweat glands...one may be plugged. I had to apply hot, wet compresses on it and, instead of squeezing it, I pulled outward around the surrounding area. It stretched it out and finally it began draining. Its kinda gross...thick, icky smelling pus like substance came out. After the initial drain, I them squeezed and MORE gunk came out. Its likely you will have to deal with these for the rest of your life...
Avatar n tn A few days ago i found to lumps behind my right ear, and they are tender. They are about the size of a pea doubled. Also like 4 months ago i had the same thing in under my arm pit, doctor said they were lymph nodes and no big deal now im getting worrid thats theres more behind my ears, then i have alot of discharge too but im on the pill so that could be doing that, and with that being said i have a lump on my head too the same size but not tender.
1389878 tn?1279851155 this is actually for my husband, he has recently noticed a hard lump behind his ear and has grown to be very worried about it. He actually has lumps on both sides behind his ears but his left side has grown enough for him to take notice in it, it is hard and does not move around, is not tender to the touch nor is it red or irritated in any way on the outside. He says that it doesn't cause him any constant pain but every once in awhile he will get little sharp pains where the lump is.
Avatar f tn Hi, i have a lump behind my left ear its hard and its sometimes accompanied by severe headache, nape pain, and nausea. I know that lumps behind ears are supposed to be indicators of infections and that its probably a swollen lymph nodes. But i just find it odd that every time i suffer from from severe headache its getting bigger and harder and always with the symptoms i mentioned above. Does anyone know what this mean? Thank you.
Avatar f tn it might be a cyst, i have them behind both ears have since i was a child..i find when i get run down they tend to swell a little.. my doc has always said its nothing to worry about..their is no pain..
Avatar m tn Lump behind the ear could be an abscess, folliculitis, lipoma (localized collection of fat), an inflamed lymph node or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). However swollen lymph nodes behind your ears could be due to chest infection, dental problem, tonsillitis or pharyngitis, dandruff, infection of ear. There are many other causes for lymph node swelling, but these swellings will come gradually and not pain to start with.
Avatar f tn I have noticed the lumps behind my ears for several years, and more recently noticed a lump under my chin about a year ago. The ones behind my ears seem to come and go, but the one under the chin seems to always be there, I also noticed one on the left side of my neck that seems to change in size. Does this mean an increased risk of thyroid cancer?
Avatar f tn Lump behind the ear that does not cause any other symptoms could be folliculitis (hair follicle infection), lipoma (localized collection of fat), a cyst, swollen lymph node or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). However swollen lymphnodes behind the ears could be due to chest infection, tonsillitis or pharyngitis, dandruff, or infection of ear. So check and see if there is dandruff or rash or if the baby has ear infection. Watch the lump.
Avatar f tn Pea sized lump behind the ear could be a lipoma (localized collection of fat), a cyst, an inflamed lymph node or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). Swollen lymph nodes behind ears could be due to chest infection, tonsillitis or pharyngitis, dandruff, infection of ear or even caries tooth, poor oral hygiene etc. At times they appear without any apparent cause. Watch the lump. Do not touch everyday but once in 10-15 days.
Avatar m tn Around 2 months ago I have developed swollen lymph nodes behind my ear accompanied by some pain. I was frequently swimming and vigorously cleaning my ears with cotton buds at the time. I visited an ENT doctor and he said that I had Otitis Externa and that the lumps are nothing to worry about. He prescribed Zinnat for me and since then the lumps have gone down in size but they are still there. So doctor I was to ask you about the chances that these symptoms could be of HIV or other STDs?
Avatar f tn I have noticed over the past few days that I am getting more waves or vertigo and the normal pain in my ears has doubled. I just discovered a lump on my mastoid bone ( behind my ear on the skull ) its hard and in does not move. From what I have read it doesn't seem too alarming but I am worried that my disease has progressed to the point that inflammation is causing infections and lumps. Please help me , I need to know if I should make an appointment or just let it go and see what happens.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have had 2 noticeable to the touch bumps behind my ears for a while now. (years) i havent paid much interest to them because i thought it was always just a vein, or a protruding vein. they arent very large. I started becoming concerned about 2 days ago when i was feeling it and then felt behind my right ear in the same area. their is nothing their. They dont itch or cause me pain. they are very close together. Here is a link to a picture of what they look like. http://tinypic.
Avatar n tn lymph nodes are located under the arms and behind the ears and several other places, have you talked to a doctor about it?
Avatar f tn But a doctor is best to evaluate. Do you have any behind your ears? Down your neck? Just wondering.
