Lump in throat muscle

Common Questions and Answers about Lump in throat muscle

Avatar n tn your lump in the throat is probably harmless "globus pharyngeus", in other words, your cricopaharyngeal muscle in your throat is just too tight. Two major reasons for this are reflux and increased stress (and why not both!). More information e.g. Most voice and swallowing centers tell something about this as it is such a classical symptom of laryngopharyngeal reflux.
Avatar n tn My wife had the feeling of a lump in her throat and it got to where she could feel it. It turned out she had a benign groth on her thyroid. They removed one half of her thyroid. That was about 10 years ago. She now says she can feel the lump again and it sometimes seems to make it hard for her to swallow and she says it feels like it is cutting off he windpipe at times. I feel sure your doctors have looked at this but if not, I would ask.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone. Has anyone experienced sudden onset of "lump in throat" symptoms? About 2 weeks ago I had a feeling of something stuck on the right side of my throat. Sometimes it is more noticable then other times but it has not gone away. I ahve been having a lot of belching along with this. I figure I must be swallowing a lot of air trying to get rid of the lump feeling. I have not had any heartburn. Should I make an appt. with a ENT or GI Dr.
Avatar m tn I work very long hours in a call centre and my neck hurts so much. I wonder if I have permanent damage to my vocal cord. My neck feels like I have lump to swallow & I can't physically talk any more & it hurts a lot.
Avatar m tn I seem to feel terrible for some time after this happens. Lump in throat..ears ringing... very sensitive to light and noise. I an on synthroid since 2007. I have always been a bit anxious in social settings but now is really a aweful. I walk into a store right away I want to leave with all of the lighting.
203342 tn?1328740807 I've had this constant lump in my throat feeling for days now. Nothing seems to relieve it. I actually tried to not eat yesterday except some tea, soup and crackers and it didn't go away. Could this be Acid Reflux? It's a horrible feeling! I feel like I've got a golf ball stuck in my throat! I can still eat but I did notice that I nearly chocked on my toast this morning. Maybe it was too dry.
Avatar n tn oh and the lump usually stays in the wishbone area for a few minutes before it starts travelling, but during that time it changes from a slight lump to tingly to feeling like the muscle wall turns very hard & spreads and then into the "bubble" feeling at which point it starts to travel.
824295 tn?1241656149 For the past week I have had a tight , lump in the throat feeling. I have the feeling all day. Last Jan I was having stomach problems and had a endoscopy done and was told I just had a irritated stomach. By the end of Feb stomach symptons went away and I felt good. Last week I developed muscle aches, feel weak and tired and have muscle twitches, pins and needles feeling in my feet along with the throat thing. Bloodwork came back fine and I am having a mri on the brain done friday.
Avatar n tn recently ive had this feeling in my throat like something is stuck in there. Its like right in the middle. I went to the doctors last year but they didnt know what it was and all they did was test me for strep throat. Its kind of hard to swallow too, Its gone before but comes back. I just want it to go away and not be serious. Do you know what it is?
Avatar n tn Everytime I eat, it feels like there is a lump in my throat. I usually drink fluid right after to wash the food down, but there is a discomfort everytime i swallow. I had an endoscopy done and nothing wrong was found. The doctor said it was due to anxiety. I believe this to be the case, because if i think about the problem while im eating, I can feel my throat muscle begin to tighten, and sometimes it tightens so much that I have induced vomiting! Its awful!
Avatar m tn Now the worst part of all this in the end is that the problem swallowing has turned into a problem of severe pain when I swallow. It feels like a lump in my throat just under the adams apple. The way I describe it to people is try and swallow a whole egg, it’s the sensation when you swallow something oversized. As soon as any food or liquid including plain water hits the lower part of the esophagus it feels like its ballooning up and stopping at the entrance to my stomach.
Avatar n tn On a side note, the past few weeks (starting a 2 weeks before noticing this back lump) I have had a sore area in my throat (not a sore throat!, no pain swallowing, but an irregular feeling like a lump or abrasion) WITH what seemed to be salivary gland pain, two (first tender, then hard) lymph glands in neck, and pain/throb in armpit, groin, and femoral region (no noticed lumps except swollen pain in groin while on Augmentin) and ear pain.
Avatar n tn VCD attacks, cough, voice problems, asthma, globus (feeling of lump in throat), constant need to clear throat, worsening of sinus condition, sore throat, pre-cancerous conditions of throat &/or esophagus, etc. SOME GER/LPR CONTROL THINGS WE DO, that we learned from the excellent book: STOMACH AILMENTS AND DIGESTIVE DISTURBANCES, by Michael T. Murray, N.D. See page 9, References, in my website: and, also see GER/LPR info on page 5, and on LINKS page.
Avatar n tn it feels to me like a strained muscle in the throat and not actually on the interior of the throat (like an infection or something similar). could possibly be related to allergies maybe? if anyone has any thoughts please share I am trying to narrow down what this is so I can make some changes to correct it.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had that same lump a few weeks ago. Seemed like the more nervous I got about it, the worse that it felt. I was convinced that I had throat cancer or some dreadful disease! I could not feel the lump when I was eating or drinking....quite strange! After reseaching online, I learned that it was a spasm of the "cricopharyngeous" muscle in the throat. Nothing to worry about, It will leave u as fast as it came on.
Avatar f tn I mentioned this to my dentist and he suspects a blockage in my salivary gland and recommended I see a specialist, and within the past week I've begun having pain in my jaw (only in the right) and a sore throat (only on the right side of my throat). I was wondering if this could possibly be lymphoma rather than a blocked salivary gland? Or if someone could recommend something to mention to the specialist (my appointment is this thursday).
Avatar n tn I also have had muscle twitches. Anxiety can cause muscle tension and this may result in muscle twitches or spasms due to the prolonged contraction of the tense muscles. Zoloft usually takes several weeks before its full effects kick in and can help with your symptoms. My suggestion is to concentrate on relaxation by practing meditation, relaxation exercises, taking warm baths, working with a therapist, etc.
Avatar f tn Turns out, after much distress, ENTs (inner ear infections, tinnitus, esophagitis, constant fluid in my ears, dizziness, migraines, tooth/facial pain, sinusitis, asthma like symptoms, gagging)---lump in my throat, began to have the burning behind my sternum (which felt more like pressure, not burning), absolutely no way to get rid of the mucus plugs I could "feel" in the back of my throat and up into my sinuses--- It's something called "Silent Reflux" or laryngopharyngeal
Avatar n tn Since I began taking the medication I had a constant lump in my throat and weird feeling in my eyes (kind of like they were going in and out of focus). The feeling of not being able to swallow is what usually sends me into a panic and the lump feels larger whenever I feel stressed. I have since weened myself off the medication, but the symptoms are still there.
Avatar f tn I never had lump in my throat before I was pregnant ( at least that I knew of), my doctor noticed it during my first check up. He had to do tests for my thyroid and they both came back normal. I went for an ultrasound on my neck last week and now they want to do a biopsy. Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this? I'm scared of what this could mean for me and my baby!

Avatar n tn I have the same exact problem with a lump in my throat and excessive mucus in my throat for 6 months also. I have been to doctor after doctor and had every test done. Today I went to a 3rd ENT, and he put a camera in my nose down into my throat and actually saw the abundance of mucus along with swelling. All the other doctors told me it was GERD and it was just a sensation. I knew I wasn't nuts.
323238 tn?1223756954 yeppers. There is a muscle than runs across your throat. Also the tongue is one big muscle as well. If you think about it, these muscles can be tense and inflammed just like any other muscle in your body. People who are anxious or stressed tend to strain these muscles. Also the more you focus in on it, the more obstructive it can begin to feel. I recommend some stretching exercises.
