Common Questions and Answers about Lump in breast while breastfeeding

lump

Avatar n tn I found a lump on my right breast while breastfeeding my 8 months old baby. I went for a mammogram and the doctor told me to stop breastfeeding in order to do the biopsy. I breastfed all my babies and having problem giving the bottle to the baby. If I can, I never wants to give a formula to my baby. On top of that she is allergic to milk and soy . Any advice? Thanks.
Avatar f tn If the lump is painful, then could be a clogged milk duct which is very common in breastfeeding mothers.Your should massage the lump while breastfeeding or when pumping.Applying very warm compresses should help unclog the duct. However, any new lump that persists, whether painful or not, needs to be evaluated.Since you are breastfeeding,it's highly unlikely to be something alarming ,but the only way to get a proper evaluation is to have this lump investigated by your OBGYN.
Avatar f tn I also have heartburn often and the sensation of a lump in my throat. I had an upper GI scope done and the doctor says my esophagus is inflamed and that I have GERD. I never had any health problems before and I am not overweight. I do not smoke or drink and I have a healthy diet. I was wondering if the hormones from breastfeeding could possibly be causing my GERD symptoms? Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
Avatar n tn ) Most breast lumps are benign.
Avatar f tn I was pregnant at the time of diagnosis, found my lump while breastfeeding our first child. I had stopped breastfeeding barely 4 weeks before the biopsy. My sentinal node was positive (1 of 3)...remainder nodes were all negative.... this was done at the time of the mastectomy a week after the biopsy, 5+ cm tumor, ER/PR+, HER2-. They found DCIS in the remaining breast tissue that was removed. I'm almost 3 years from diagnosis, 2 years from last chemo treatment.
Avatar n tn Yesterday, i found a lump on the right side of my right breast while breastfeeding. Its seems quite hard & immovable. There is no pain or redness however, I have a 4 mth old baby & breast feed him regularly ( every 1 to 2 hrs, depending on the demand ). I ignored it in the beginning thinking that it could be a clogged milk duct (though i din't understand how that could be possible considering the frequent feeds & the fact that the rest of my breast felt really empty).
Avatar f tn Just earlier while showering i found a lump in my right boob! in freaking out ive NEVER ever had a lump before. could it be from breastfeeding?? has any other mom developed a lump while breastfeeding and it be nothing?? Any advice??

432779 tn?1364494875 It can be a cloged milk duct in your breast, you sometimes get them while your pregnant as your body is getting ready to breast feed (even in early stages of pregnancy) although they are more common once you actually start breastfeeding and can be painful when your ilk comes in! Good luck and keep us posted!
Avatar n tn I just came back from the doctor with no answers so I thought I would try this. About two weeks ago I noticed a small lump under my left armpit. This was right below my extra milk gland and not painful. I was told I have a lot of breast tissue under this armpit and when I breastfed my children I always had a large milk gland where I couldn't put my arm all the way down. Now There is a lump and after finding it two weeks ago it is a little larger.
Avatar f tn I found what was thought to be a fibroadenoma in my breast while breastfeeding my baby. It was hard, felt like a small bean, and mobile. A mammogram and ultrasound was done, and the attending physician was pretty sure it was just a fibroadenoma, but said that she couldn't be 100% sure without a biopsy. Well, it turned out to be a cancerous tumor. She was as surprised as I was, I think.

Avatar f tn I went to my family MD with a breast lump, lump under my arm, and all the classic Mastitis symptoms. Mammogram and ultrasound did not detect a problem. 4 rounds of antibiotics and 2 rounds of steroids later, still have a lump. Had a repeat ultrasound last week that detected a 1cm by 3/4 cm lump and 5 enlarged lymph nodes. Biopsies on both came back benign, thank God!
Avatar f tn Lumps during breastfeeding may be caused by blockage of ducts which carry the milk from deep in the breast to the nipple openings. Milk that builds up behind the blockage causes the lumps and makes the breast sore. Warm compress may help provide relief. Gently massage the lump toward the nipple during and after feeding and cold packs after a feed may help relieve pain and inflammation.

299260 tn?1304216105 Hi, ladies. I noticed a small lump in my breast last night & it actually hurts to touch it. I'm close to starting AF & had heard that you can have little lumps during that time of your cycle, which is why my doc always told me to do a breast exam after AF. I'm just curious, though, cause I've never had something like that, which hurt to touch it. Does it sound like something I should have checked out? Anyone have this happen to them? Thanks !

Avatar n tn Yes, it is scary to find a lump in your breast. However all lumps are not cancer. Yes, it is scary to find a lump in your breast. However all lumps are not cancer. Breast lump can be due to fibroadenoma of breast (benign condition) or due to an abscess, or a galatocele or milk filled lump in breastfeeding ladies, or it can also be a lipoma. It is important to show this lump to a doctor and get a mammography. Take care!

1115551 tn?1292093976 This fibroadenoma though, should be followed up and would warrant a biopsy if there is an increase in size and changes in in the shape. fibroadenomas and cysts do not remarkably increase the risk of developing future breast cancers. You can also monitor your fibroadenomas through regular physician visits, as well as through imaging studies such as mammograms or ultrasound. Take care.
Avatar f tn Patients usually present with a progressive onset of a breast lump and there is no history of infection or trauma. The breast lump can be of variable size, is usually unilateral, firm, ill defined, and mildy tender. Sometimes an associated locally inflammatory reaction is present; nipple retraction is common. Enlargement of lymph nodes under the arm is common.
229857 tn?1319029907 Hey ladies. Well Brayden is 4 months old now and I am now 8w6d pregnant. My fiance noticed last night a small (about the size of a penny) bump on my the side of my left breast. It is pretty painful when I touch it. Could it be changes from having a baby a few months ago... or could it be because in preg again? Or could it be something else? I think my dad's mom died from breast cancer and so did my mom's dad's (my grandpa) mom.
