Common Questions and Answers about Lump in breast during breastfeeding

lump

Avatar f tn Lumps during breastfeeding may be caused by blockage of ducts which carry the milk from deep in the breast to the nipple openings. Milk that builds up behind the blockage causes the lumps and makes the breast sore. Warm compress may help provide relief. Gently massage the lump toward the nipple during and after feeding and cold packs after a feed may help relieve pain and inflammation.

Avatar f tn I m only 15...I felt a lump in my left areola and it was quite fixed and hard..Compared to few days ago,it was less painful...Was it possible to be breast cancer?I dont have any discharge from my breast..
Avatar f tn If the lump is painful, then could be a clogged milk duct which is very common in breastfeeding mothers.Your should massage the lump while breastfeeding or when pumping.Applying very warm compresses should help unclog the duct. However, any new lump that persists, whether painful or not, needs to be evaluated.Since you are breastfeeding,it's highly unlikely to be something alarming ,but the only way to get a proper evaluation is to have this lump investigated by your OBGYN.
299260 tn?1304216105 Hi, ladies. I noticed a small lump in my breast last night & it actually hurts to touch it. I'm close to starting AF & had heard that you can have little lumps during that time of your cycle, which is why my doc always told me to do a breast exam after AF. I'm just curious, though, cause I've never had something like that, which hurt to touch it. Does it sound like something I should have checked out? Anyone have this happen to them? Thanks !
622762 tn?1222422468 my daughter gave birth 11 days ago yesterday she felt a lump about the size of an almond in her breast,it is not painful do you know what it might be,also she had a breast exam a year ago the first of October, she does self-breast exams
Avatar n tn How are you? During breast feeding, tender/small lump in the breast can be due to free movement of milk that is stopped because of a block in some duct of the breast. Massaging the area or using warm compress on the area will help the lump to dissolve. However, if this persists, i agree with being vigilant with your health. Given your family background, Mammogram, ultrasound and CA125 will be very helpful in ruling out cancer. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I took a ovulation test during the lumps occurrence which turned out positive. I got pregnant that month. The lump did not persist during the pregnancy or during breastfeeding. I did however have a complicated pregnancy due to a "sensitive uterus" I contracted from 28 to 38 weeks. The birth was induced but relatively normal with no complications. After breast feeding my cycle continued and the lump came back mid cycle.
Avatar f tn I was pregnant at the time of diagnosis, found my lump while breastfeeding our first child. I had stopped breastfeeding barely 4 weeks before the biopsy. My sentinal node was positive (1 of 3)...remainder nodes were all negative.... this was done at the time of the mastectomy a week after the biopsy, 5+ cm tumor, ER/PR+, HER2-. They found DCIS in the remaining breast tissue that was removed. I'm almost 3 years from diagnosis, 2 years from last chemo treatment.
Avatar n tn I just came back from the doctor with no answers so I thought I would try this. About two weeks ago I noticed a small lump under my left armpit. This was right below my extra milk gland and not painful. I was told I have a lot of breast tissue under this armpit and when I breastfed my children I always had a large milk gland where I couldn't put my arm all the way down. Now There is a lump and after finding it two weeks ago it is a little larger.

Avatar f tn Mastitis is common when women are breastfeeding ,but Inflammatory breast cancer is a very rare type of cancer that would usually present with rapid, unusual increase in breast size, redness, rash, persistent itching of breast or nipple, stabbing pain, feverish breast, swelling of lymph nodes under the arm or above the collarbone, nipple retraction etc...
Avatar f tn 2 weeks after i started breastfeeding i felt pain on my left breast and 3-4 days after pain started i felt a pretty large lump in the same area. I was checked by the Ob/gyn a few days later and he suggested massages and warm compresses for 2 -3 days thinking of trapped milk. After doing the appropriate massaging, it did not seem to improve. It also became hard. He ordered an ultrasound.
475472 tn?1210034033 On saturday I'm laying on the couch, sleepy, with my hand on my stomach. Somehow my hand touched the right side of my right breast and I felt a rock. Believe me all sleep disappeared. I felt my breast and discovered a lump about 3" in diameter deep near the breast wall. Today, Monday, I visited my GP and she immediately put in a call to my breast surgeon (in 1/2007 I had a biospy on my left which was benign calcium deposits). I'm scarred about tomorrow.

I breastfed all my babies and having problem giving the bottle to the baby. If I can, I never wants to give a formula to my baby. On top of that she is allergic to milk and soy . Any advice? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Yes, it is scary to find a lump in your breast. However all lumps are not cancer. Yes, it is scary to find a lump in your breast. However all lumps are not cancer. Breast lump can be due to fibroadenoma of breast (benign condition) or due to an abscess, or a galatocele or milk filled lump in breastfeeding ladies, or it can also be a lipoma. It is important to show this lump to a doctor and get a mammography. Take care!
432779 tn?1364494875 I went for my OB appt yesterday and she found a lump on my left breast. She thinks it might be to do with the breastfeeding so she will check it again next time. Has anyone had this situation?
Avatar f tn I went to my family MD with a breast lump, lump under my arm, and all the classic Mastitis symptoms. Mammogram and ultrasound did not detect a problem. 4 rounds of antibiotics and 2 rounds of steroids later, still have a lump. Had a repeat ultrasound last week that detected a 1cm by 3/4 cm lump and 5 enlarged lymph nodes. Biopsies on both came back benign, thank God!

Avatar f tn I found what was thought to be a fibroadenoma in my breast while breastfeeding my baby. It was hard, felt like a small bean, and mobile. A mammogram and ultrasound was done, and the attending physician was pretty sure it was just a fibroadenoma, but said that she couldn't be 100% sure without a biopsy. Well, it turned out to be a cancerous tumor. She was as surprised as I was, I think.

1115551 tn?1292093976 This fibroadenoma though, should be followed up and would warrant a biopsy if there is an increase in size and changes in in the shape. fibroadenomas and cysts do not remarkably increase the risk of developing future breast cancers. You can also monitor your fibroadenomas through regular physician visits, as well as through imaging studies such as mammograms or ultrasound. Take care.
Avatar f tn Patients usually present with a progressive onset of a breast lump and there is no history of infection or trauma. The breast lump can be of variable size, is usually unilateral, firm, ill defined, and mildy tender. Sometimes an associated locally inflammatory reaction is present; nipple retraction is common. Enlargement of lymph nodes under the arm is common.
