Common Questions and Answers about Lump behind sternum

lump

Avatar n tn I recently felt what feels like a lump under my sternum, it feels like its connected to my sternum and only way i even relized he was there was because i was feeling around my stomach area one day. It really doesnt bother me but lately ive been noticing it more and more. I dunno if its all in my head just because i found it. Im just wondering if I should go see a doctor, ive read of the xiphoid process and im not sure if thats what it is.
Avatar m tn It has been almost a month since my wide-open excision and to my horror, I have found another lump. I have been checking the area several times a day, the nurse marked an outline around the lump and it has become larger. WHAT THE HECK!!! A couple of days ago I had a large amount of foul smelling, green pus from one of the holes near the open excision. Hopefully, there is no extra pocket there.
Avatar n tn She doesnt know if this is related or not to this lump. The lump doesnt hurt, but of course if you keep poking at it it will be sore in that area. I dont even know what forum to write in. She is running out of time. Her insuracne runs out at the end of the month due to her husband losing his job. She did have her chest xrays and they showed they were find. The bloodwork that they did showed nothing. They did not do a liver panel. Please reply.
Avatar n tn It feels like gas and then I start burping and that seems to help but it's not enough, the pain keeps radiating lower into the front of my abdomen and then upward in the pit of my stomach below the breatbone, it burns, and then moves upward behind the breastbone. Then it gets behind my right shoulder blade and hurts all over my back again and it feels like I've been hit with a baseball bat. It feels bruised and achy. This morning's attack was the worst so far.
Avatar n tn So when I felt where the pain was, I discoved a fairly large lump at the bottom of my sternum just off center. Kind of FREAKING out here. Do not have health insurance and do not want to go to the doc to hear him say it is nothing to worry about. Could it be an ulcer or something not so worrisome, or should I get it checked. Pain is still there hours into the day but it comes and goes as far as how strong it is. Anyone have any answers or suggestions?
Avatar n tn I too have a large lump between my sternum and rib cage under my right breast. It started a couple years back and went away. I talked to my dr and she said it could be inflammation caused by my sport bra? It did go away, but it has come back and it's bigger and tender to the touch. I feel a discomfort when I roll over at night. After reading through some of the comments I did some research on what others said. Particularly, crwstar who posted on 12-4-08. She mentioned Costochondritis.
Avatar f tn Approx location, below at base of throat or down further, behind the bone. Can swallow, but food wants to stick. Occasional pain the sternum, hoarseness than has increased and every once in a while, referred pain to the jaw. ENT doc saw nothing. Have endoscopy tomorrow. Have also been through an intense period of anxiety and know this can aggravate. But terrified that some sort of tumor may be found. I do not smoke, rarely drink, but enjoy a cup of coffee (1) in the mornings.
Avatar f tn After many pictures, the radiologist decided that the lump is a lymph node and not anything to worry about. It is way back in my chest behind my breast but close to the sternum. He assured me that it is fine. Thanks for your encouragement and support. I will continue to pray for all of you.
Avatar n tn However, lately, when I go to eat, I've been noticing that it feels like I have a very small lump behind the lower sternum when I swallow. Recently, I've been noticing that I need to burp more frequently than usual and that I've been having a light burning sensation just above my stomach. Sometimes, when I swallow, it can feel like the food has hit a small "speed bump" right before it hits the stomach.
Avatar m tn i have a multiple bean like cyst on my sternum, when i apply for work and have a physical exam, the doc. said it was cyst inclusion epidermis and it is benign. said that nothing to worry about, but i want to remove it since i feel its all over my left breast and some are just below the clavicle... and there are more in my forearm... sometimes i feel ashamed when someone notice it and I'm not comfortable talking about it. is there any treatment about my condition?
Avatar f tn Mine was 90% two years ago, but Dr. said scan was normal. I sometimes do have pain behind right rib area, sometimes feels as if a lump is behind the ribs. I will sometimes feel soreness around to back and right shoulder will be sore but I've always attributed that to muscles. Fatty foods do not cause problems. Symptoms seem to be brought on more by food, just not a particular food. Do these symptoms resemble IBS more or GB? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I'm a healthy,non-smoking 28 year old female entering into my first pregnancy. Other than breast pain, my only complaint is the daily ache behind, below my sternum. I've never had this before, but this began about two weeks after pregnancy. I am currently 7 weeks pregnant. I've tried all the suggestions: avoidance of spicy foods, carbonated beverages, mint, but nothing is helping. It is even bothersome on an empty stomach.
Avatar m tn My left arm is noticabley weaker then my right and I compensate by using my right as much as I can. A few months ago I developed a small lump in the joint in my left pinky the one closest to my palm. It is very painfull when touched and pressure is applied. My left wrist is noticably skinnier then my right wrist now. I have also been experiencing tingling sensations in my left ear that come and go. For a few years now I have had discomfort in the left side of my chest.
Avatar n tn Turns out, after much distress, ENTs (inner ear infections, tinnitus, esophagitis, constant fluid in my ears, dizziness, migraines, tooth/facial pain, sinusitis, asthma like symptoms, gagging)---lump in my throat, began to have the burning behind my sternum (which felt more like pressure, not burning), absolutely no way to get rid of the mucus plugs I could "feel" in the back of my throat and up into my sinuses--- It's something called "Silent Reflux" or laryngopharyngeal
Avatar n tn I have lost a ton of weight and even though I'm eating, I can't put any weight back on. The lump....yeah, I have a lump in my throat that feels like a lump of bread is stuck and won't go down. It does not hurt and I can swallow food or liquids just fine, but why is it there? How have things turned out with you?

Avatar n tn I am unable to get out of my house and drive since I am afraid to black out or pass out behind the wheel or in public. I dunno if this helps but I had a daughter almost six months ago, so could it be hormones, electrolights or a metabolic disorder? What about a digestive problem? I am so desperate to get back to life and having fun with my family. I need answers or suggestions of what else to check for...Anyone who has any advice please help me! Thanks! I am also on BC.
Avatar f tn Vertigo (swaying back and forth/no spinning) Nausea Stomach Pain Pain under breasts (behind rib cage/sternum) Frequent Belching Sharp, stabbing head pain (and pressure) Tingling/twitching in face and lips Onset of sweating Tingling/pain in random parts of body (particulary arms/legs/hands/feet) Blurred vision Feeling of lump in throat (or throat tightening) Electrical shock feeling in arms/legs I have been experiencing these symptoms off and on throughout the day since May 2007.
Avatar f tn I would say it starts at the back of my throat as a lump, then ends just behind the sternum. It gos from an annoying sensation to a very sharp pain. I've read many forums and information suggesting it may be GERD. That wouldn't surprise me as I get severe heartburn almost daily. I also have other stomach problems such as severe IBS, the diarrhea type not the constipation type. I am almost always in a state of nausea. I often vomit and suffer the utmost painful bowl movements on a daily basis.
Avatar n tn One thing they haven't talked about much is that you have another set of lymph nodes behind your sternum (breastbone). So, obviously they don't crack/saw it open and check there. Maybe there should be a bigger push to determine if they should be pursuing that. My mother's cancers were "early" stage 1 also, so they didn't do chemo nor radiation. She lived 25 years after her first breast cancer, but with a colon cancer bout in between...finally dying of ovarian cancer.
Avatar m tn If I try hard enough I can feel a little pain behind sternum very infrequently, mostly if I take a very big breath...just to see if I can feel anything. A year ago, wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, with no insurance. About a month after that I tried to have a heart attack but failed. :) ER treated me for heart then asked me if I had any stressed. I laughed and explained. They laughed and said they thought it was a stress related thing.
Avatar f tn I have noticed the lumps behind my ears for several years, and more recently noticed a lump under my chin about a year ago. The ones behind my ears seem to come and go, but the one under the chin seems to always be there, I also noticed one on the left side of my neck that seems to change in size. Does this mean an increased risk of thyroid cancer?

Avatar n tn ( I still have a golf ball sized lump swelling behind my scar, its still sore but they tell me to give it 6 weeks and the more I do the more swelling I have/ I have been back and forth at work, I do a full day and I off the next day, its frustrating. Still no effort by the end of the day to cook tea if I have done the other things, I just want to see light at the end of the tunnel.......
Avatar f tn I have a lump on my chest right at my sternum that could be connected to my thymus and a lump in my neck. I'm not looking for a diagnosis, I know we can't do that here. But would love some input to what any of you may think is going on. I do have up coming appts with doctors. An Ent and Neurosurgeon. Is there any other specialist I should consider? Joyce was kind of enough to suggest i come here and see if there was any input...
