Avatar f tn About 8 days ago she went to the doctor with strep-throat. Now today I noticed she has a lump behind her right ear, should I be concerned? I read it could just be her body fighting the infection. Should I get her to the doctor or should I just keep an eye on the lump for a few days? She is 8 years old.

Avatar n tn my 2 year old son has a hard lump on his head behind his left ear. We did notice this weekend (before we noticed this lump) a HUGE raised , red, insect bite on his scalp on the same side of his head as the lump- which definitely could have been infected. my husband insists this is a swollen gland due to the insect bite. he also has been fighting off a cold for over a week now. but he it otherwise fine- normal energy, appetite, no fever and generally healthy seeming.

Avatar m tn It is difficult to comment without examination. Lump behind the ear could be an abscess (unlikely as there is no pain), folliculitis (hair follicle infection), lipoma (localized collection of fat), a cyst, an inflamed lymph node or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). However swollen lymphnodes behind your ears could be due to chest infection, tonsillitis or pharyngitis, dandruff, or infection of ear.
Avatar n tn Hi All, I am a 23 year old female and about 3 months ago I found a hard, immovable lump behind my right ear. There is one behind my left ear too but it is much smaller. I went to my Dr and he said it was just part of my normal anatomy. I wasn't convinced. I went to see another Dr who said the same but done a blood test anyway. The results came back clear.
2055843 tn?1332431515 Yesterday, I noticed a lump - about the size of a large pea - several inches behind my left ear, NOT on the ear itself, just the scalp near it. This morning in the shower, it had increased to the size of a small rubber ball, and is very painful. I've panicked about things like this before, only to discover it was a swollen lymph node. Is there a specific lymph node up in that area? Should I wait a few days, and if it gets worst, then what? Thank you to anyone who takes time to answer.
Avatar f tn Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! It is difficult to comment without examination. Lump behind the ear could be an abscess, folliculitis (hair follicle infection), lipoma (localized collection of fat), a cyst, an inflamed lymph node or a neurofibroma (localized harmless swelling in of nerve and connective tissue). In all probability abscess and folliculitis is ruled out. A CT scan would be diagnostic. Since you have dry scalp, watch the lump. Do not touch everyday but once in 10-15 days.
Avatar n tn But about 2 weeks ago i got a swollen lymph node behind my left ear and now about 2 days ago i have another lump i beleive is an occipital lymph node on the back of my head they have a dull pain to them and are pretty stiff what do u think my problem is?
1997600 tn?1327261933 The area just before my right ear, where the jaw joint is, is sore to the touch with a slight raised lump. I additionally have a hard sore bump behind the same ear, as well as feel as if my gland is slightly swollen and sore. I have had headaches consistently, as well as an area on the right side of my scalp that feels sore to the touch,. with what looks like a slight rash.
Avatar m tn Had a small growth under my skin behind my left ear about a year ago, didnt think much of it, until it started progressively growing bigger. now its about the size of a large pea protruding out of my skin. At first i thought it was a pimple and tried squeezing it, poking it, nothing comes out. its squeezable, but hard if that makes any sense. its yellowish in color with what looks like little veins in and around it. does this sound like anything i should be worried about?
Avatar f tn I have recently found a lump behind each ear. They appeared pratically overnight One is larger than the other one and are very sore to touch. I also have found I have one on top of my head which only small but again sore. I've been having problems with my teeth and have an abcess I need to get sorted, and thought maybe these lumps could be connected to that, but I'm not really sure. Any idea's on what they could be?
Avatar n tn I am expereincing nausea diffuculty falling asleep and irregular sweating. I also discovered a lump on my scalp aroung the same size as the one behind my ear. The skin on my scalp is also affected with soreness on the lump. What might it be and are the two things perhaps connected?
Avatar n tn i just now started getting these pains behind my ear too. im a 19 years old college student. i get a sharp pain behind my left ear. i counted it 12 times yesterday. its not an unbarable pain but its really wierd. if anyone has found out what it is please let me know.
529981 tn?1212853666 There is a sandy-grainy like build up on my scalp This is also accompanied by an itch. Even after I wash my hair, the grainy like build up is still there. It is NOT flaky what so ever. My hair has also started to fall out and at the end of my hair, a white little grain is at the end. Hair will not stop falling out. I have gotten blood tests at a dermatology office and everything was normal. I also have tried about very type of zinc pyrithione shampoo, at the highest concentrations.
Avatar n tn I got this fatty lump behind my ear that i have been trying to figure out what it is but with no avail, the thing that i think it is, is a swollen lymph node but from the research i have done the swollen lymph node is normally associated with being ill or ichy scalp or something along those lines; to which i have none of those symptoms. I also heard that once the lymph node is painless thats when its a problem and around two days ago it hurt like hell but now it's pain free.
Avatar f tn I have them, they come and go...not quickly. Now I have one about nickel size behind my ear.
Avatar n tn That could explain the intermittent nature of the lump behind your ear. Though I do suggest consult with your doctor for proper evaluation. It is very hard to tell what exactly you are having without the benefit of a good physical examination. Good luck.
Avatar f tn My child has a lump behind her ear and also on both sides, where her lymph nodes are located. I spoke to her doctor about this and she said that due to the fact that she does have ring worm of the scalp, that is what it is from. I am just trying to get confirmation of this.
Avatar f tn Excessively sensitive scalp could be due to scalp inflammation caused due to diet, stress, internal hormonal imbalances or a bacterial/ fungal infection. The symptoms could be severe itching, redness, pimples, oily scalp, flaking, crusting causing bleeding. It could be something more serious like temporal arteritis. This is the inflammation and damage to the large blood vessels that supply the head, usually branching in the neck from carotid artery, usually the temporal artery.
Avatar f tn My child of almost three has a small lump behind her right ear and on both sides where her lymph nodes are supposed to be. I spoke with her regular doctor about this and she informed me that my child has ring worm and the lumps are result of the infection in her scalp. She is on medication that I was told to give her for 6 weeks and she has been on it now for about two, about to be three, but, I don't see to much improvement.
