Avatar m tn While thyroid issues are more prevalent in females than in males, there are a lot of males with every kind of thyroid issue, including cancer, hyper and hypo. Unfortunately, thyroid issues don't discriminate between genders or age. We have several male members on the forum; maybe one (or more) of them will chime in. There's really nothing different about men having thyroid issues than there is with women having them.
Avatar m tn Hi there, The common causes of hot flashes in males are andropause, thyroid disorders and aging hormones. As a man ages his body produces less testosterone and androgen which may cause hot flashes. Other causes of hot flashes are infections like HIV and tuberculosis. Use of medications like Nifedipine and Calcitonin and certain antibiotics are few other causes of hot flashes. Sometimes food containing monosodium glutamate can cause hot flashes.
Avatar f tn I have a 21 yr male who has low testosterone levels and high estrogen levels. He has gynecomastitis, overweight, depressed, and insomnia. Any advice on treatment option!
Avatar m tn can a male develope a yeast infection in his penis by receiving oral sex - in other words does having someone give me a blow job cause a yeast infection?
1536256 tn?1292527883 05 for over 25 years , and still had lingering hypo symptoms until I learned from these nice ladies the importance of FT3. After getting my FT3 tested and finding it in the low end of the range, indicating poor conversion of T4 to T3, I then got my meds changed to include a source of T3, and now I feel best ever. Since you have been diagnosed with Hashi's then I'm sure you realize that over time, the Hashi's antibodies will eventually destroy your thyroid function.
Avatar m tn So that would leave 2,121 white men who contracted the virus through other means that M2M contact in 2009. Assuming that at least some of those remaining males contracted the disease via IV drug use....could it be accurately assumed that less than 1500 white men a year are contracting the virus through heterosexual contact? Can that even be close to right? Seems way to low with all the high risk behavior white males are involved in nationwide? I have no clue...
Avatar m tn ve asked my doctor about these years ago and he told me it was normal, especially in overweight males. Do keep an eye out for excessive swelling or pain either of which could be an issue ( most likely thyroid related). Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn From what the Radiologist told me, for males as young as you and I (I will be 26 in June) the recovery rate is really good. Only thing we have to worry about is if the cancer has spread, which they will monitor. I havent been told that I have a low rate of survival or anything, only parts that suck is the month or so without Thyroid meds, then after the radiation, I cannot be around my pregnant wife for at least 5-7 days.
Avatar f tn s and Hashimotos * Ferritin (and do stress FERRITIN, not just RBC) * Adrenals Cortisol levels (but we strongly recommend saliva tests) * B-12 * Estrogen * Progesterone * DHEA * Reverse T3 * CBC * Comprehensive Metabolic Panel * Lipid Profile * ACTH Stim test * Growth Hormone (24 hour urine test) * Neurotransmitter (24 hour urine test) If your there and the doctor is willing, an MRI with and without contrast of the pituitary gland may also be helpful.
Avatar n tn I am 47 years & had pit tumor removed in early 2013. I've had low thyroid & testosterone levels since. For the low-T, my endocrinologist injects me with testosterone replacement hormone Nebido (4 ml). It usually lasts 3-4 months before I had to be injected again. Not long after the first Nebido injection, I started drinking extract of soursop leaves (recommended by another pit tumor patient).
Avatar f tn Sarcoidosis of the thyroid gland is a rare disorder first reported in 1938 that primarily affects young and middle-aged females although both males and females of all ages may be affected. Sarcoidosis of the thyroid gland usually results in hypothyroidism because of fibrosis interfering with thyroid function. However, sarcoidosis of the thyroid may cause a euthyroid (normal thyroid function) form of thyroiditis and goiter.
Avatar m tn m not quite sure I follow your comment about the maximum normal thyroid volume for males. How do I know what my thyroid volume is and what happens when it surpases that volume? The reports that I had mentioned that my thyroid was otherwise normal with the exception of the multiple nodules found.
Avatar m tn Well, sure, the thyroid, since it can affect both males and females. Migraines can start when any hormonal changes occur. And, men do go through their own version of "the change". Many have dismissed this kind of thing in the past, but the information is getting out on the airways that men go through hormonal changes in midlife, too. Different triggers for different people, but temperature can actually trigger migraines.
Avatar n tn She also ordered a thyroid ultrasound which showed a mildly heterogeneous thyroid gland without focal nodule. The measurements were: RT 4.7 x 1.7 x 1.2 cm and LT: 4.9 x 1.7 x 1.3 cm. From what I have read all limits are in normal range besides the 4.9 on the LT, which appears to just be very slightly large. Would this be something to worry about?? She said that the slightly heterogeneous meant nothing really other than I have a bumpy thyroid. Does this sound right??
Avatar f tn My suggestion, seek another opinion. I spent 5 years with low Hgb. and low ferritin, as low as 4. The Dr. never seemed concerned but I would keep going back with other complaints, fatigue, inability to connect, concentrate, very cold, muscle aches and cramps...etc...The Dr. I was seeing, kept increasing my iron supplements to the point of terrible constipation..the iron tablets did NOTHING. I then moved to a different state, saw a new Dr.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your comment! I find it very disappointing when doctors don't test or suggest what to test for. In my case my husband doesn't care, but I want to feel the same like I used to be. I'll be 40 next month, I don't want to feel like my life is over. Many women don't pursue testosterone because don't know, and if the doctors don't mention testosterone as a test, that's the end of it.
