The interesting thing is the symptoms of Low T in women virtually match identically the low thyroid symptom list. So the difficulty is to convince the Dr. that her lasting symptoms may be low T and not Hypo thyroid is a touch argument to make. And there is no gurantee that it is not BOTH.
All I know is that the tests show she is BELOW range. As you can see above they won't even list the amount. It simply says less than 0.20 which is the botom of the range.
I want enough estradiol in me to make sure I can string a sentence together, avoid depression, have a sex drive, have better word retrival, have strong bones, less moodiness, have good heart function, no cramping in legs (the worst when I am low in my estradiol)... no foot problems (yes... when estradiol was too low for a few years...bad doc's advice... yuk,... I ended up having to have surgery on both feet).. no joint pain... I could go on and on and on.
but there are other pills out there that have more estradiol in them that may be more helpful... check that out, too)... but I am wondering if a little progesterone cream balanced with estradiol is what you need. Do a check on that, too, if that would be something you are interested in.
For women without ovaries, such as myself, there are some theories that suggest balancing is not the goal as was once thought...
I spoke to my doctor yesterday and he indicated the "L" in 10L estradiol meant my level was "L"ow not liters. If I could ask a follow up question, since my initial question was answered by my doctor. If I get the testosterone shots, how likely is it that I will have a large portion of it converted to estrogen given the fact that my current level is low. Should I consider taking a aromatase inhibitor as a preventative measure for testosterone shots.
I know people who had higher estradiol levels when their ovaries were resting. 19 seems SO low! I just hope that I am a slow responder and that with the up'd meds, my levels will increase. I'm only 29, so I can't imagine not responding to stims. Who knows though. Nothing would surprise me at this point.
I am glad to say that your FSH, Estradiol, LH, Prolactin and TSH are all normal for cycle day 3. The Estradiol should be low on cycle day 3 and the FSH, just as you said. If they were high then you would have a problem. You are not close to menopause.
I do think you should see a specialist to help you get pregnant . They can do further work up on you as well as your husband.
But good news, you are not menopausal.
I just had it tested and my Estradiol level is 67. The lab report says the level should be <56 pg/mL. I'll talk to my Endo, but any ideas on what causes high Estradiol levels in a 41 year old male? I don't drink or smoke, have a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Thanks for the help and suggestion to get it tested - I think I'm closer to figuring out what is wrong.

thanks for the reply., Yes, the estogen is low.. Apparently diff docs look for diff levels,,, mine said 20-80 but is in line with that you said..
As I understand, at times you do want low estrogen, but I don't think you want it quite as low as mine. I dont' know if mine is a perimenopausal # or what, all I was told women my age (I am 45 have this kind of level) I think I need to talk to a diff doc who can be way more specific, I was left feeling like.. what does all this mean...
Your symptoms may be due, at least in part, from not having enough estrogen. Women also lose about 50% of their testosterone when their ovaries are removed. Unfortunately, doctors fail to divulge this important information before surgery!
1mg of estrogen taken orally is a fairly low dose for a woman without ovaries. And some women do not absorb oral estrogen very well. Has your doctor ever checked your blood level of estrogen or estradiol?
been trying to have a second baby the past 3years on off cycles of clomid, IUI among others then 4months ago discovered low amh which means low ovarian reserve and my RE didnt recommend IVF but i wanted to try so he gave me a short intensive course of merional and only 1 follicle appeared with low Estradiol level so he cancelled IVF and did IUI 2weeks ago and just got my period so it failed.....i have read about DHEA and bought it...
Taken in conjunction with the FSH level, a higher level of E2 on day 3 may be masking the true FSH level. So, if FSH is in the normal range, and E2 is high, the FSH may actually be higher than the number given. My dr said that E2 isn't indicative of anything taken on it's own (unless one is on fertility medications), but must be considered in light of FSH.
What was your wife's FSH level?
I am really stressing. My progesterone has gone up each time. I am taking 2 mg Estradiol 3 times per day and am now on the patches changing them every day. Any ideas? Does this mean I am not pregnant?
I can understand your frustration! I would be murdering someone by now! :) I assume this is your first cycle if Follistim, and the doc probably had no idea how you would respond so he started you out low (too low!). The very first month I did Follistim I started at 100 a night for 5 nights and still didn't see any measurable follies until day 7 or so of that cycle. Ended up with one egg that cycle and estradiol level of 250 something. That was a bust cycle.
