Avatar f tn I'm 36 weeks and 3 days and have really low platelets (64,000 ) this only happens when I get pregnant.
Avatar f tn AND 37 weeks pregnant. When they took blood draw they found out I had an extremely LOW blood platelet count. The normal count is about 150,000- 400,000, I had 2,000. I was then admitted and put on Prednisone through IV 80mg a day.... (could have been 80 twice a day now that I think of it, Im not too sure at the moment) a few days went by and I was given some transfusions....
Avatar f tn Has anyone else had low platelets during pregnancy? I did w my first, had to see a hematologist, get my blood drawn all the time and ended up not being able to get an epidural. Now I'm pregnant w my second and its happening again..am I the only one?
2030686 tn?1351692148 For example, amoxicillin can lead to anemia (low red blood cells), thrombocytopenia (low platelets) and leukopenia (low white blood cells). Red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen. White blood cells help fight infection and platelets help in wound healing. Anemia leads to fatigue and shortness of breath. Leukopenia makes you susceptible to infections and thrombocytopenia makes you prone to easy bruising and bleeding. http://www.livestrong.
Avatar n tn My prenatal bloodwork showed that I am anemic - have low red blood cell count, B12 deficient and low hematocrit. Additionally, my blood platelet count was very low. This is not the first time I have had a problem with this. I have been anemic and have had low blood platelet counts in the past, including when I was pregnant with my first child. The low platelet count caused me to not be able to get an epideral with my first pregnancy/delivery and I am afraid that will happen again.
Avatar f tn The normal number of platelets is between 150 and 400 million per millilitre (ml) of blood. Most pregnant women have normal numbers of platelets, but about eight per cent of pregnant women have a slight drop in their platelet count. Your count is below normal if you have between 100 and 150 million platelets per ml of blood. If your platelet count drops below normal while you're pregnant, it's called gestational thrombocytopenia.
639124 tn?1223426196 The swelling and low platelets may or may not be related. The various causes of low platelets are as you know ITP, TTP, Dengue fever, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. Refer: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/thrombocytopenia/DS00691/DSECTION=causes http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/thrombocytopenia.htm Dangerously low platelets will cause bruising of skin and bleeding. Avatar f tn All my blood work has been low the hole pregnancy. 35+3 and going strong. Just did a blood draw Monday will find out Monday if it's all OK or sooner if it's important.
Avatar f tn My bp has only been 160/90 so they've been managing it and I've been in and out of hospital 4 times this pregnancy but I'm now 27wks and my protein is starting to increase so my dr thinks I only have about 5-6wks to go maybe sooner before my body has had enough and I'll deliver early again via csection. My understanding is, deciding whether to deliver or to try to manage it, depends on you bp how much protein and baby's immaturity.
Avatar f tn I have 36 weeks pregnant and I have low platelets, can I get any advise of what I should eat or do to increase my platelets, I had the same problem with my first pregnancy of twins, my platelets went very low,at 80,000 and I was bleeding through my mouth the whole delivery , which took close to 3 days, I had them natural because the doctor told me that I can't have a c-section...that will be a bad ending... I dont want this to happen with this pregnancy, please help me...
Avatar f tn well at my drs appt they drew my blood on Wednesday to check my iron and my platelets and they are still down I've always been low but I just received a call from my dr my iron is at an 8 and my platelets are at 92,000 which are supposed to be at 150,000 plus my due date is until the 27th I'm 37 weeks today' and he says he will check my cervix at my next appt I'll be 37+5 and he will most likely induce me that night or the next day depending if my cervix is opening or not!
Avatar f tn I think for me it will depend on my labs and how I'm feeling, if platelets and hgb stay stable and then there is still the factor if insurance will approve another 6 months as of now I'm only approved for the 24 weeks. It's just a decision I want to make now. It will make the next 12 weeks harder if I know I still have another 6 months after the 12 weeks. So I'll just take it one week at a time right now.
Avatar n tn I hope her pregnancy goes well and the baby is hcv free. There is so little about hcv infection and pregnancy. The stress of pregnancy may trigger symptoms that may linger sometime. I started with large joint pains that remained with me for a long time. I now believe it was hcv related and pregnancy brought it to the surface. That child is hcv negative, thank God. I breastfed her also. GL to all of you My firstborn DOB is July 14, let me know your baby's.
Avatar n tn I started taking 20mg of Prednisone about 1 month ago and when I had my blood done again they now say my blood platelets are around 35,000. Needless to say she was very concerned which has put me in panic mode and now Im moved back to Labor & Delivery instead of having a midwife all in one day.
Avatar f tn Yes change doctors. 119,000 is plenty of platelets. This doctor is not well informed about hepatitis so treating with them could be a waste of your time, money and effort as it is common to see platelet count drop during treatment. He would probably stop your treatment even though you were having a normal response to treatment. You don't want to have to retreat because of your doctor's ignorance. Lower platelet counts is a side effect of peg-interferon.
Avatar f tn In the last pregnancy (2007), I had still birth at 34 weeks due to IUGR. During the present pregnancy, my doctor has recommended aspirin and Low Molecular Weight Heparin (like Clexane) for the entire pregnancy period. I am regularly taking these both medicines. Regularly undergoing Ultrasound regular scan and Doppler scan. Till now the growth of fetus is good and is better than the last pregnancy. But my platelet count is coming down, now its around 160,000.
Avatar f tn When I was pregnant with my son I had low platelets and my midwife told me that if my platelets were too low I couldn't get an epidural because I could bleed to death, and if I needed to get a c cection then I would have to get put to sleep.
Avatar f tn Low Hb and enlarged spleen. I need hospitals with experience in the blood disorder to be recommended.
Avatar f tn i had a scare and had to have some blod work an incidentally they found all my blood work too low esp. my h&h and my platelets. the only number i have is my hgb is 9. has anyone had pregnancy anemia. and does it affect the baby or delivery or anything.
6708370 tn?1471493810 Anemia is mainly due to Riba and no there are no symptoms of low platelets as their is when one is anemic. And yes yours are very low. Mine run around 60 due to being cirrhotic. Could there be a problem only if one would have an accident where there is a lot of bleeding. Always make sure even if you go to the dentist they are aware of your low platelet level. As for anything one can do to raise them not really. Once treatment is over and there is healing it could be possible they will go up.
149675 tn?1416676733 A friend of mine who finished tx and cleared the virus 1a, now has diabetes. Another friend of mine couldn't do treatment, his platelets went down so fast and low he almost died after one shot. He now also has diabetes. There is a definite connection.

Avatar f tn And she is LOW BIRTH WEIGHT - 5 lb 5oz - and has been in NICU since the beginning for low blood sugar, low body heat, low platelets, high red blood cells, inability to eat, and failure to urinate enough. Feeding tube and all that. .... How does the doctor insist that the body weight was OK and would probably be almost 8lb and it turns out to be so low? Especially since I specifically asked this question at every appointment?? I feel like that was negligent.
Avatar f tn I'm interested in going on the Nuva Ring but nervous about blood clots. It's never been an issue for me in the past when I've been on birth control, and I didn't get clots while pregnant. However, when I was pregnant and they tested my blood at 8 weeks pregnant to see how likely I might get clots, I was told it was slightly elevated, but cleary not enough for them to be concerned or test me again. I don't smoke and am in good health.

Avatar f tn Hey sweetvc1. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your pregnancy. While I have no personal experience to share with you, I can probably share some information that might be helpful and hopefully address your concern. Since Fibromyalgia is not a specific disease, but rather a syndrome, we have to explore aspects of this syndrome or other co-existing conditions imbalances, co-factors that may be linked to potential pregnancy risks. 1. Low cellular thyroid function* and fibromyalgia.
1916673 tn?1420236870 These both work together, so when sodium levels are high, potassium levels are usually low, and vice versa. Sodium is important to maintain blood pressure and for normal nerve and muscle function. The level of sodium in a dog’s body is controlled by the hormone ‘aldosterone’, which is produced by the adrenal glands. Aldosterone communicates directly with the kidneys and influences them to conserve sodium or allow more sodium to evacuate the body in urine.
Avatar f tn I am eating heaps of liver and beef and also the blood test showed my iron reserves area bit low, but my red blood cells are in the lower end of normal range. So again, nothing explanatory there either. And finally, I had my thyroid checked and that was also in range (I take a low dose of thyroid and wondered if the periods could be connected with needing a higher dose, but apparently not) Well, anyone know anything about any of this?
