2009161 tn?1327915695 My mom was treated with By pass surgery recently and she has been shown that there is calcium lesion that has been there in one of her heart arteries, Is it because of these tablets(Losartan Potasium). Please help me clarify this Doctor.
Avatar f tn They only came to light after I was discharged from hospital and told to see my own doctor because I had low calcium in my blood. At the appointment, she took my pulse and sent me to the ER. I was told I was ok after some tests and blood tests seem to show the calcium issue had corrected itself.
Avatar m tn I'm a 52 year old who recently had a heart scan calcium score of 80.1 (all in LAD; 0 in other arteries). A scan 6 years ago showed some slight calcium in same area and score was 30 with 0 in other arteries. The recent results also indicate some calcified lymph nodes in left hilum, with calcified granuloma in spleen consistent with old granulomatous disease.
Avatar f tn You need iron to produce red blood cells. So without iron, you develop anemia (low red blood count) and it makes you feel a little breathless because red blood cells carry oxygen and you have to breathe a little harder and your heart beats become more noticeable. So it sounds like your doctor is on this and has increased your iron supplements? Anemia is very common in pregnancy, by the way, and usually responds pretty quickly to treatment with oral iron supplements.
Avatar m tn 1- is it true that calcium might be affected if he has low vitamin D even though the blood tests showed nothing concerning calcium ? 2- is there any relation between both ? 3- should he take calcium needles even though his blood tests were normal ? p.s , he is already on track on solving his vitamin D deficiency .
212161 tn?1599427282 does not eating much cause your blood pressure to be really low? funny I had gone dr to see about taking extra pill just at night because bp was sorta high in early am like 147/89 somewhere like that . but days seemed ok unless I was understress I can really shoot it up. well since I had a stress test and stressed over that. I have lost 8 pds which is good lol so trying keep it off and eat less and loose maybe 5 more .
Avatar f tn I was on Bisoprolol 5 mg, but my doctor stopped that because he said my heart rate was too low (it ranged from 44 to 57) My heart rate has increased since coming off the Bisoprolol. It is running from 62 up to 83. He also took me off HCTZ 25mg. I spoke with my local pharmacist and he told me the Lisinopril and the Diovan are in conflict with each. From what I understand about the Clonidine, it should not be given to people who have coronary heart disease, or have stents in your arteries.
Avatar n tn We do sometimes see arrhythmias of the heart in patients with hypocalcemic (low calcium) and could possibly see an arrythmias (abnormal heart rhythm) in a patient with hypercalcemia but I think this would be at a higher level such as 14-15 or so. If they think the heart attack was possibly related to coronary vasospasm, I think it just may be a coincidence that you also have hypercalcemic. By the way, has this been worked up further?
Avatar n tn Now, 18 months later I still take them, probably more than average, but a lot less then I once had to. Routine bloodwork showed PTH level steadily came back up and calcium levels in blood steadily improved. A dexa scan, done about the 1 year mark, showed bone density has improved from a prior level of osteopenea. It was frustrating, but I kept getting assured things would improve because my PTH level was always moving up.
Avatar m tn This question is assuming a subject with non-impaired, fully-funcional parathyroid glands Regarding low calcium intake, it is my understanding that with low blood calcium, the parathyroid glands will release PTH which will extract calcium from the bones to regulate the blood calcium level. If this statement is correct, then calcium intake and the release of PTH should have an inverse relationship.
Avatar m tn I get confused with calcium scoring because it only measures the hard calcified plaque and not the amount of soft vulnerable plaque beneath it, which is the dangerous stuff. I read that some ethnic groups show a low calcium score, yet have LOTS of vulnerable plaque. It will be interesting to see what an expert says because the resources on the internet are confusing over this and it appears there are two camps of trusting these results, or not.
Avatar m tn For the 2nd time this year, my calcium in my blood was slightly high. (10.3) normal lab upper limit is 10.2 I was in the hospital in July, and they said it was high then, but ran in later during my stay, and it was low. So I think my calcium is jumping up and down, but getting a little to high at the end. Any ideas on what could be causing this? symptons: tired, headaches, fast heart rate and high BP at times on and off.
Avatar f tn I am a 60 year old women that ran for over 45 years and I always had a low heart rate and blood pressure around 110/70. Lately my heart rate is as low as 43 and my blood pressure is either low or semi-hi.
Avatar m tn You should first understand the difference between a Heart Scan (Calcium Score) and a CT angiogram the first being very low radiation and thus quite suitable for screening where coletsoral screening fails to identify 50 % of heart attack victims. Calcium scoring is difinitve and quantitcative. CT angiogram is a high radiation dose and not suitable for screening. An example of colesterol failure is mine total 180 and a very high( ninety percentile) for my age calcium burden per scan.
Avatar n tn Often social anxiety symptoms are so strong that beta blockers, while helpful, cannot reduce enough of the symptoms to provide relief. Because they can lower blood pressure and slow heart rate, people diagnosed with low blood pressure or heart conditions may not be able to take them Possible Benefits. Used for short-term relief of social phobia.
Avatar m tn Anyways, there are various disorders that cause low-calcium. If I were you, I would talk to my doctor about it, for low-calcium can be dangerous. Good Luck!

393419 tn?1228447393 Unfortunately, me Saturday blood work came back on the low side (calcium 8.6) and I am to remain on the same dosages for at least another week. Depressing! On another depressing note, my blood pressure was high. I never have had high blood pressure. The 1st time they took it, it was 150/90 (right arm) I begged them to take it again and in my left arm it was 135/85 my doctor said not to worry about it yet, but of course I'm freaked!
Avatar f tn For the past year and a half my blood work has indicated slightly high calcium and low D, slightly anemic, slightly high sugar. now they vary in combination. I have been identified with reduced kidney function and this week high Parathyroid. I have extreme body spasms on the left side of neck, stomach area, back, hands and feet, and legs, bad memory, fatigue, depression, heart trouble ( 1 blockage) and just diagnosed with asleep apnea.I have had asthma all my life.
Avatar m tn Sorry, I was wrong. It was a CT scan, not an MRI. I had it mixed up. The calcium score was 7 and there was "soft plaque" in three arteries. The score of 7 is low, it's just that at 35 it seems like there shouldn't be any at all. The radiologist and doctor are pretty reputable and they both went over the results with us together. My cholesterol and triglycerides are both great. LDL:HDL ratio is 1:1 (total cholesterol is 178); triglycerides are 48.
665125 tn?1273023924 Now that the tumor and gland was removed the other three glands are dorment, leaving me calcium deficant. I am taking 4500mg of calcium a day and my calcium is still low. I am taking Synthroid 125mg daily the same dose prior to my Thyroidectomy. I get out of breathe and dizzy now and then, I also get cramps in my feet and legs. So now the doctor added a presciption of Calcitriol 0.25mcg to help promote PTH and regulate my calcium. Is anyone else having the low calcium problem?
Avatar f tn The idea of multiple myeloma is very interesting and not one I had heard before. Thank you! However, I did a little checking and found that usually in MM, the blood calcium is high. My blood calcium is low. (I couldn't fit everything into the original post.) Do you know more about hypocalcemia? My calcium is not *really* low, just low. My doc kind of shrugged when I asked why that would be, and told me maybe I should start taking calcium.
