Common Questions and Answers about Lovenox and pt inr

lovenox

612551 tn?1450022175 I know this is an old post, but just for the record.. I looked up my PT INR results over the years and it seemed to vary only by +- 10% regardless of whether I took fish oil or Ticagrelor or both or none.
Avatar f tn I would not be comfortable with having a mechanical mitral valve and an INR of 1, because an INR of 1 is the same as not being anticoagulated at all. Which brings up the question, was the result even correct? If you have been in range for a long time on a stable dose of coumadin, then what the heck happened to drop you down to the same INR as someone who is not even on coumadin at all? I would want to know either how my INR got so low, or if there is no known reason, was it a false result?
942410 tn?1274047074 I am on Cardizem sr 120mg once a day and 5 mg warfin and of course lovenox for the 10days..I will be checking inr on Monday and adjust if needed!! I was wondering if you are having same side effects from ablation??? Do they do a third ablation???hahaha I hope I would not need???
Avatar f tn My Lovenox prescription was for 12 days. Now just on Coumadin 5mg daily and INR has come down to 3. If you cannot tolerate Coumadin you may be "stuck" with Lovenox because of it's ability as an anticoagulant.
Avatar n tn what does it mean when your inr is low and your pt is high I lso am anemic and for the last three weeks been receiving iron infusion treatments I', om 10 mg of coumadin everyday except tue and thurs i'm on 7.5 my pt is 15.6 and inr is 1.

1299014 tn?1273247877 I found out that I am a FVL (heterozygous) six months ago after a history of seven unexplained miscarriages all over seven years of marriage. I had two spontaneous pregnancies, four insemination and one in vitro fertilization ( 2 embryos) ,all ended with miscarriage as early as 5 weeks (8 weeks at most). In my eighth pregnancy (miscarried two weeks ago) I had heparin shots twice a day ( clexane 0.2 -2000UI anti-Xa) plus baby aspirin and I lost the fetus in 5 weeks.
90270 tn?1199334469 I know many people on coumadin for different reasons such as stroke, blood clots in the legs, bleeding disorders that make their blood too thick which predisposes them to strokes and clot formation, etc. They have to check their PT/INR levels fairly frequently because of the variability of this med and adjust the dosage accordingly. I can understand why Hep C would have PT/INR values due to the clotting problems that liver disease causes.
Avatar n tn t drink often but he stated anymore than 1 can cause a large amount of fluctuation in pt/inr. I am currently taking 8mg a day and my pt/inr is staying around 2.8. I hope this helps...
Avatar f tn I have a blood clotting disorder and have been taking lovenox my whole pregnancy. My doctor said I'll be on it 6 weeks after birth and then there is no longer extra risk so you should be all right at this point.
Avatar n tn I know that pt and inr has to be monitored frequently in the beginning of therapy. We have a trip to the UK planned in march (16 - 4/1) Is it recommended to get a home inr monitor and communicate w/dr here at home?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with lupus anticoagulant blood disorder. I have a leg full of clots that won't break up and go away. They have been treated for 3 years with warfarin, lovenox and cumadin. All to no avail. My gp doctor doesn't seem to have the knack to getting the INR levels stable. I've been at levels of 6 and 6.5 many times leading to ER transfusions. Last week it was 1.1 I'm worried because the symptoms are so much worse lately.
Avatar n tn I went to the hospital for blood work and a cat scan. All turned up well. My blood reading was INR 1.83 and pro time 21.7. I am now experiencing lack of energy, slight fever. What can I do? I am taking 2 mg of cumiden at this time (as of yesterday). I was taking 5 mg of cumiden and 100 mg of lovenox at 12 hour intervals for six days prior to this new dosage.
Avatar n tn If your brother was hospitalized due to mini strokes he may have been given anticoagulants to dissolve clots and keep the blood thin. The side effect is bleeding. The bruise could be due to that. INR, bleeding time, clotting time etc should be done and he must consult his doctor immediately-ASAP as he could also be bleeding internally. Take care!
Avatar m tn The only way to determine your individual dose is to test your INR at various dosages and see what dosage it is that keeps you in range. I'm sorry your first surgery went badly. That happened to me, too, so I can relate. Now you need to find a surgeon who can fix the problem you have with your mitral valve. If you needed surgery before this, you need it even more now, because the valve is less functional now than it was before your surgery.
Avatar n tn They bought a new machine and reactive. Now I found another lab. You have to know the range of PT, INR AND PTT., then you see is the numbers match. Sometimes labs use not expensive reactive and this is a problem. Since 1989 I have a notebook with all my labs, results, food etc....
Avatar n tn My understanding is that if your PT INR is above 2 then your a-fib is unlikely to generate a clot. The whole idea is to keep your PT INR score in the "theraputic" range of from 2 - 3. BTW, what anticoagulant are you taking? Coumadin (warfarin) is effective but you have to monitor your PT INR pretty closely. No one I know has been on other anticoagulants so I have no experience with them.
14129151 tn?1433037840 After 5 days on heparin/erixtra he stayed only on Cumadin, though at a high INR, and developed symptoms from a larger clot, now on the julgular vein. he was moved back to heparin and then to lovenox. Then it was noticed that some of his lymph nodes were a bit enlarged around neck and lungs (1.8 cm the largest). They did several ct scans, pet scans, mri, and 3 biopsies to try to diagnose. 2 of them, a core and a surgery, werent able to get tissue from the lymph nodes.
Avatar f tn s and is in a nursing home. She also has problems with her protime/inr. I had a protime yesterday and the inr was 2.9. I have actually been in range the last three tests. It is a pain having to give up certain foods and be careful of the meds that interfere with coumadin. So many things interfere with the levels.....heat, cold, altitude....list goes on. Also if any type of surgery is required, such as a colonoscopy, then you have to be bridged with Lovenox injections while off coumadin.
Avatar m tn Some substances you consume, such as alcohol, can affect the PT/INR test. Some antibiotics can increase the PT/INR. Barbiturates and vitamin K - either in a multivitamin or liquid nutrition supplement - can decrease PT. Certain foods (such as beef and pork liver, green tea, broccoli, chickpeas, kale, turnip greens, and soybean products) contain large amounts of vitamin K and can alter PT results. The vitamins you are taking could be the cause of your PT INR being a fraction low.
Avatar m tn When I was monitored which was 1x wk due to my inr going all over, the nurse also listened to my lungs each time. If your inr goes down you can ask for lovenox shots until it goes up. I carried and still carry a lovenox shot everywhere with me- if you feel symptoms of PE: a very fast heart rate, pain, trouble breathing, you can inject it and go to an er immediately. I was told not to do any exercise except walking until the clot dissolved as anything else could dislodge it.
Avatar f tn About 6 to 8 weeks ago, I took augmentin for 10 days, 2 weeks ago, I took another antibiotic for 5 days. Since then, my PT/INR has been too low, 2.0. My diet and meds have stayed the same. I've been increasing my dose, yet it's still too low. Is it normal for this change? Please see my profile! Can it indicate my lupus activity?
Avatar m tn he has been on coumadin since initial diagnosis and also his doctor put him on lovenox shots for ten days. The lovenox was also given short term when he was diagnosed. There was another ultrasound done when he injured his leg and now they are not sure if he developed another clot or if this is the same clot.
Avatar f tn My husband has PT & INR checked every month as part of his treatment, but he has cirrhosis and that may be the reason. I'm not sure if it is standard to test PT & INR during treatment or after treatment for those who are not Stage 4; perhaps someone else more knowledgeable will come along and post. Best wishes for undetected PCRs!
Avatar n tn Thanks for your answer. My cardiologist mentioned stopping the warfariin and going with lovenox for 3 days prior to a cathererization but said there was no need for plavix to be stopped.
