Losing weight while on chemo

Common Questions and Answers about Losing weight while on chemo

Avatar f tn I too gained back the weight after I stopped the first chemo. Now that I'm having my 3rd recurrence I can't seem to keep any weight on me. I know that my Onc stated the steriods used during chemo will pack on the pounds. I don't use steriods anymore with chemo as I fill up too bad with fluids while on them.
Avatar n tn s what goes in calorie wise and what makes it burn off exercise wise that makes any difference while losing weight. Lower calorie intake, burning more calories with exercise equals weight loss. It's not fun, it's not easy. And with the menopause that comes on with arimedex or any AI doesn't make it easier. It's like we don't have a choice but to eat better and much less than before and to work out even harder to lose that one pound.
Avatar m tn but after chemo was over she regained light-normal weight and has moved toward need to lose a pound or two. She then developed lung nodules and is again in chemo... losing weight again. She did not have any radiation. Best I can recall she was in good shape other than some problems with hands and feet numbness - forget the official name of the condition. This goes on and has worsened with this second round of chemo... but this is beyond your question.
Avatar f tn Hey everyone, I'm on methadone too for 6 years now and have gone from 115 lbs of firm, smooth muscle to 160 lbs of cellulite-covered, jiggly fat. Yum. I'm on 70 mg, just like you, Suziblues. Not a really high dose, but enough to pack on the pounds apparently. I have found that it's REALLY hard to lose weight on this stuff... but I agree that I'd rather be overweight than strung out again.
Avatar f tn I know it's early yet, but I've been hypothyroid for 2 months (approx) (flipped from hyperthyroid/ thyroiditis) and on Synthroid since July 8...the 5th day after taking it, I began to feel a bit better...Now, in this past week, I'm losing weight for the first time in years! (I was one of those that gained even while hyperthyroid and didn't lose while doing chemo either!) I've gone through a lot of muscle pain and aches these past few weeks, but that is lessening too...
Avatar f tn she lost a dramatic amount of weight while she was on it. so it is defiantly true that you can lose weight while on the depo.
Avatar f tn I have been taking 150 mg a day of Welbutrin for about 2 1/2 months now and have noticed my hair thinning. I'm not losing hair it's just not coming in like it used to. I'm 57 year old female and wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Also, I seem to be losing weight and don' t have an appetite like I used to. AND I don't sleep very well.I want to stop taking this drug immediately but hear there are side effects to doing that. How do you stop it slowly?
Avatar n tn She has finished 4 months of radiation and 4 months of chemo. The tumor on her larynx has shrunk 60% and no change in the other tumor. They started more chemo this week for another 4 months. Is there a chance she could get worse during chemo and the worst happen? She lost from 110 lbs to 88 lbs.., she now weighs 90 lbs . The cancer has not spread any where else.
Avatar f tn u really shouldn't try to lose weight while pregnant. but if u get bad morning sickness u may not have a choice. try to keep ur weight the same or if it bugs u talk to ur doc. good luck dear!
Avatar f tn Underwent a year of chemotherapy and was off chemo until a recurrence July 2007. Was on monthly chemo from that time until 2 months ago when I started weekly chemotherapy. Part of the chemo includes weekly IV Decardon. Since July, I have gained 25 pounds. I know it is not all due to the steroids because I admittedly overeat and prior to the weekly chemo, I was unable to exercise due to foot blisters from the monthly chemo.
Avatar f tn to supplement your meals. Also, there are several drugs on the market are designed to put on weight for chemo patients. Lastly, marijuana is often suggested to chemo patients to help with appetite and weight gain. I dont know your stats -- how much damage, when you became UND, etc -- but there is also the option of terminating treatment early if the doctors feel you could potentially do more damage than good.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if any of you have successfully lost weight or stayed the same while pregnant. They only thing I plan on doing as far as losing weight is to eat healthy foods and not to overeat like I tend to do and to also excercise. I know if Im prego I shouldnt overdo myself on exercise but light exercise and walking wont hurt! :) I just would like to minimize the chance of getting gestational diabetes or preclampsia while prego! :) Thoughts, opinions, concerns, etc are all welcome!!!
Avatar f tn Any advise on how to lose weight while breastfeeding? I got down to under my pre pregnancy weight when my baby was 2 weeks old. Since then, I've gained 10. In the last week I've tried cutting calories but my milk supply has decreased. How do I lose it w/o losing milk?
Avatar f tn I am due to have my last (6th) treatment with Carboplatin next Wednesday. I had a radical hysterectomy on 27th Feb 09 which removed large contained tumours on each of my ovaries, indicated by removal of an enlarged groin lymph node in Dec 08 (stage 3C) . All the tests indicate the tumours were successfully removed and I have been pretty well throughout. Scans clear, CA125 down to 5 from 600+ at the op. I am still active, but my haemoglobin count is down to 9.8.
Avatar f tn My average healthy weight is 60kg and I'm 161cm tall, now I'm 75kg which is overweight. I just finished the 3rd month yesterday. Is there a way to lose weight without hurting the baby? Cuz it's not healthy for me to stay in this weight while I'll gain 12kg more while pregnancy. Nothing hard or hurtful, walking is hard here since I'm in saudi Arabia and the heat reach 40c. I'm looking for healthy diet that won't hurt the baby if I do it.
Avatar f tn Diet aids such as Releana are not the best way to lose weight. While you might lose a considerable amount of weight on it, which might be nice, the chances of gaining it all back, once you go off the med are extremely high. I can't think of anyone I've ever known, who would stick to such a "diet" for any length of time.
1084115 tn?1385228589 I wish I could relate. I was hoping I would lose weight on treatment but I gained while taking INC. I did drop what weight I gained but now I am back where I started. If you want to gain weight add about 400 to 500 calories to what you already eat each day.... Add a high calorie protein shake or you could do like me and add a couple of scopes of Ben and Jerry's at night . Good luck with the rest of your treatment.
