Common Questions and Answers about Losing weight while lifting

Avatar f tn First if your body is not getting enough foods it can easily go into starvation mode and decide to hold or even gain weight. 1200 calories seems very low, especially given how much you exercise. So maybe you should keep your food around 1300 at minimum? It's hard to know the "sweet" spot that will keep your body healthy while loosing weight, but if you don't find it you will have a really hard time loosing weight.
Avatar m tn Walk 5 miles every week and work out at the gym with weights. The problem is that I am not losing any weight in the last two weeks. I am keeping my calorie intake around 1200 to 1500 calories daily. I understand that I may be putting on muscle but I am also getting discouraged with not losing weight. When can I expect to see the pounds start to drop off?
Avatar f tn I play basketball for atleast an hour a day, along with an hour of weight lifting and a twenty minute cardio session after that (normally on a bike). I quit drinking soda and other drinks and now only drink water, fat free milk, and an occasional gatorade. I eat less then I use too with minimal snacks. I have not lost any weight in a month. WHat am I doing wrong?
11513017 tn?1425723993 I'm a bit over 26 weeks and still going to the gym 4-6 times a week. Doing cardio and heavy lifting. I wouldn't be worried... working out during pregnancy is fine.
Avatar n tn Does she still have help, therapy? I would advise her to talk to them, they can help her with losing weight healthy and/or the worrying about it.
Avatar n tn Exercise is a way of life that brings your body to good health while losing weight or mantaining weight. 1-2 lbs is a reasonable weight loss goal per week not much more. Remember 1 lbs of fat is 3500 calories so you will have to burn that much calories in order to lose just 1 lb of fat. Be patient is it happens slowly.
Avatar f tn I lost 25 lbs in 2017 after realizing how much weight I had gained (and while having other hypo symptoms) by upping my exercise regime and counting every single calorie I ate for about a year. I don't suggest this for most people, but I can tell you what little tweaks worked for me.
Avatar m tn I have started a complete lifestyle changing initiative. I am currently 1 1/2 months into my new diet and exercise regiment. I weigh about 287lbs (my goal is approximately 215lbs mostly muscle) at the moment after losing about 25lbs last month. I do cardio 6 days a week for 45 mins each time. I alternate my cardio workouts between the elliptical, the treadmill, and I use the bike and stairmaster seldomly. I am noticing great weight loss with this routine.
1339808 tn?1276321180 you should do more cardio than weight lifting, some people get confused because they are working out but not losing weight but in your case you are lifting weights also which is adding muscle weight to you,if you want to really lose you will have to increase the cardio and lower the weight your lifting and do more reps
1066531 tn?1254969334 I’ve been working out for many years now, and i want to know how I can tone my body better without losing a large portion of weight, mostly my chest and midsection? I’m 6ft 198lbs I would like to be around 195 but in much better “shape”. My diet ***** and i’m trying to work on it, but I work out at the gym 2-3 times a week lifting weights and running. I dont run a whole bunch though, would that help my problem or will that just make me lose wieght?
Avatar m tn Hi I have been losing weight and dont know why. The scale is going up rather than down though. I dont workout or do excercise so this is all strange to me. My period also looks lighter than normal. I have had bloodtest which they said is normal.Any idea ?
Avatar n tn Most experts recommend 30-60 minutes of aerobic exercise three or four days a week, along with two or three days of weight-bearing, resistance exercise (such as weight lifting). This is sufficient to achieve satisfying results. You can exercise daily or on alternate days, depending on the availability of time. Walking is one of the simplest aerobic exercises. You can vary the intensity to match your fitness level.
Avatar f tn depends what you are talking about... weight lifting, if you were doing it before you were pregnant then your fine to continue doing what you did at the gym if it still feels comfortable. if you mean things around the house and so on i carry loads of laundry at home up and down are flight of stairs since the beginning im 32 wks now ( no problems) i also have a 4 year old niece i carried early in pregnancy she's probably about 25 or 30 lbs.
Avatar f tn From everything I have read it is totally fine to lose weight while pregnant. It kind of makes sense.. if I was eating my 100% best for the baby, I'd be losing weight.. I read a book called eat to live by fuhrman, and it totally changed my idea of what eating healthy is. It seems like everyone loses weight before they get pregnant! Maybe it makes us more fertile!?
Avatar m tn , 44 yo male. This weight loss was relatively easy, as I stopped lifting heavy weights and started counting calories. A Dr. told me weight lifting was bad for my heart, another one said is okay. I have started back to lifting light weights. The decreased weight hopefully has taken some strain off of my heart. It will be tough to lose the next 14. Sounds like you may be ready for some lifestyle changes. Losing some weight may help with taking some strain off of your heart.
3094227 tn?1340939908 You're probably fine. People smoke meth while pregnant and their babies turn out fine. As for the heavy lifting, you might talk to your doctor. I don't think its usually recommended while pregnant.
6470732 tn?1439556292 Absolutely! Heavy lifting will put unnecessary strain on your back and hips and will likely cause some braxton hicks. Your joints are releasing a hormone called relaxin which makes them loose so you're more prone to injury as well. I was told nothing more than 20 lbs after 20 weeks. Occasionally I'll lift my step son for a moment or carry groceries but too much in one day is a no.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if any of you have successfully lost weight or stayed the same while pregnant. They only thing I plan on doing as far as losing weight is to eat healthy foods and not to overeat like I tend to do and to also excercise. I know if Im prego I shouldnt overdo myself on exercise but light exercise and walking wont hurt! :) I just would like to minimize the chance of getting gestational diabetes or preclampsia while prego! :) Thoughts, opinions, concerns, etc are all welcome!!!
583580 tn?1231136383 I do cardio and I try to lift weights but theres my problem. Everytime I start a lifting program even though its low weight more reps I gain mass. This frustrates me cause it doesnt go away. I dont lose inches or weight I get bigger. Whenever this happens I stop lifting cause I dont want to get bigger. I know they say that a woman cant get bigger because she just doesnt produce the same hormones as a man but why would I be gaining mass if this were so.
