Common Questions and Answers about Losing weight quickly unhealthy

losing-weight

Avatar f tn I would like to drop my weight down to 50 or 55. Is that an unhealthy weight? And this weight tracker thing says I have to eat around 1200 calories in every day, isn't that a little bit too little? Or is that right? And a side note, I have an injury that doesn't allow me to do any high impact sport, including running, any helpful tips?
Avatar n tn This is not a healthy weight loss goal for anybody. Most people can lose anywhere between 2 -3 lbs a week. Losing weight too quickly may put your body in shock. Before you start any diet, you should talk this over with your family doctor to make sure it is appropriate for you. Perhaps your doctor can suggest a food plan that will help you lose weight at a healthy pace. Don't be fooled by diet plans that promise 4 - 5 lbs weight loss per week.
Avatar m tn Hi there and welcome. No, that would be an unhealthy weight loss in three weeks. Taking weight off quickly like that makes it almost certain that it will very quickly come right back. Weight loss takes a bit of time and effort. Good that you are on a low calorie diet but don't make it so low that your body goes into 'hungry mode' all the time. Don't skip eating. Just make it healthy. Eat twice the vegi's at each meal than you normally do, cut out starch, etc.
Avatar f tn Yes it's normal to lose weight while pregnant. I lost weight the first trimester and my doctor didn't worry as long as baby is growing. Just eat healthy and stay active! !
Avatar f tn I've put on close to 15 lbs I the past 5-6 months and I'm extremely unhappy with this. Hoping this will help me maintain my goals & lose weight in a HEALTHY way. The weight gain was due to my unhealthy eating, so I'm trying to get back on the right track!!
Avatar f tn These types of weight loss are not recommended, because they lose weight too quickly, and are most likely losing water and muscle, not fat. Nearly all lost weight is regained as soon as the plan is stopped...
Avatar f tn Its good you've set a goal and are looking to find out how to achieve it! However losing 15 pounds in a month is unrealistic and unhealthy. Did you know it takes about a year for your body to adjust to losing 10 pounds? It's important to remember weight loss is a marathon and not a sprint. In order to lose weight and keep it off, you shouldn't look at it as weight loss but a way to become healthier!
Avatar n tn Calories, while a part of it, isn't the main factor in weight. How well and how quickly you metabolize what you eat and how much activity you engage in are more important. Counting calories doesn't really do you much good in the long-term if those calories are, say, in the form of foods that metabolize quickly into sugar -- if not burned off quickly they will store as fat.
Avatar n tn re not the most important tool for choosing a diet -- some high calorie foods are very good for losing weight, some low calorie foods are bad for losing weight. The real issue is how you metabolize and digest your food, and that will differ by the person.
Avatar f tn Happened to my mom in her third pregnancy, my sister was healthy and healthy weight, but did deliver early and quickly. They managed to get to the hospital but my sister was born in the hallway at the hospital because they didn't have time to get her to l&d lol. Good luck!!
Avatar n tn How tall are you? It seems that for your age your weight may be on track. I worry that losing weight may be unhealthy for you. It would depend on your height. Is the want for weight loss for a sport by chance?
Avatar f tn I read the question about a toddle losing "percentiles." My toddle is actually losing weight. He is 18 months old and is down to 21 lbs. He has never gotten over 23 pounds, but he has dropped both percentage and pounds. We have tried to keep his cup for only at meal times, but he still eats very seldom. And short of actually forcing the food in his mouth, the only veges he will eat is potatoes.
Avatar f tn I'm no doctor, just a man who has read way too many articles on fitness and tested a few out. What I've found the best way to lose weight is to find your maintenance level (you can find a rough calculator online) that will tell you about how many calories you burn in an avg day. Subtract around 250 calories and you've found your ideal calorie amount! Keep in mind you should take exercise into account as well. You should be shooting around -2 lbs a week.
10366239 tn?1409616907 I am over weight because for the last few years I've had a "desk job" and I was not exercising at all because I was always wiped out because of my hours. I have a new job and I walk constantly. Today I walked 5 miles just at work. I'm not eating differently but I'm losing weight because of the activity. I know I'm supposed to be gaining weight. I don't know how this works. I can't not work and exercise is important anyway.
Avatar f tn t sound so bad, but when I found out I was pregnant, I was in the middle of weight loss and was already overweight.(I had just finished losing over 90 lbs!) I was wondering if anybody had any tips on how to not over gain weight? I'm already 10 lbs over what they wanted me to gain. I don't eat fast food, I only drink water and juice, and I eat as healthy as possible, exercise daily and can't figure out why I'm still gaining so quick.
Avatar f tn I would suggest making an appointment with your family doctor to discuss a realistic weight loss and a possible new food plan to achieve this new realistic goal. Losing 15 lbs in 2 weeks is not realistic and can put your health in jeopardy, big time. I wish you well.
Avatar n tn Hey there, No, this is quite normal. Your metabolism learns to adjust quite quickly after short periods of fasting or unhealthy eating habits. You're likely to find your body hanging on to calories after this, but if you only slipped into disordered eating for 3 months, it won't take long for your body to get back on track. Just be sure to be as consistent as you can with your diet and exercise regimen.
Avatar f tn Losing 10 pounds by Sept 23 is not a reasonable goal, as that's too much weight to lose in such a short time. Most likely the reason you can't stick with a "diet" is because you're cutting your calorie intake too severely. Nobody can stick to a diet in which they don't provide enough food. If you provide adequate calories of healthy foods, chances are you won't have any trouble losing the weight and keeping it off.
Avatar f tn Every appointment ive lost 3 or 4 pounds. I am, however, over weight. I also know that I shouldnt be losing weight. Ive had no morning sickness or anything. My doctor doesnt seem bothered but this Im 15 weeks now. And its bothering me.
Avatar m tn So, eating yogurt, almonds and fish is very healthful, but these are foods associated with losing weight, not gaining it. Just depends on what the poster is after, and so far the poster hasn't filled in any details, but again, if all the person wants is to gain weight, just eat more and focus on unhealthy food and you'll gain weight. Won't be good for you, but it should work absent something quite wrong with the digestive system or metabolism.
Avatar m tn They said that i look good but i do not need to loose any more weight or I will be unhealthy. The problem is that i am not trying to lose the weight it just keeps falling off!! They asked if I wanted to change birth control methods. I like no having a period, but i am beginning to think that i will not be able to stop myself from losing weight. Some of my family thinks that i am taking drugs because I am losing weight!!
Avatar n tn Why do you want to be underweight? If you love sports you most likely have a lot of muscle mas making up your current underweight BMI. Get a fat percentage measurement done and you may find that you should actually worry more about properly nourishing and taking care of your body's needs than losing weight. Don't hurt yourself, and your body will continue to play sports. Underweight is not good. http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/guidelines/obesity/BMI/bmicalc.
Avatar f tn m mainly going off of how others lost the weight, but I do know that losing a lot of weight very quickly is unhealthy which is why I set the year or so timeline. I don't expect to be exactly on target then it is just a reaching goal. I've checked the charts and the average rate for my height and age is 120 to 145. I've used to be very small and gain weight quickly when I hit my teens and haven't been able to lose it.
Avatar n tn Losing slowly and steadily by changing your lifestyle and diet is the way to go, but nobody can tell you how quickly the weight will come off. It depends on your metabolism, how much exercise you can handle, and how disciplined and knowledgeable you are about eating healthfully.
