484844 tn?1253968693 I have friends who have done the South Beach diet who were very successful at losing weight and did keep it off. Good luck!
193609 tn?1292180293 It has always been hard for me to lose weight (now I know why) but I am considering the South Beach Diet. Anyone have good luck with that diet? I already work out, so now I just need to make sure my diet is in check. I have been counting calories and staying under 1300 but I don't think that is going to be most effective for me now that I know that i have severe PCOS. Doc told me that my testosterone level was high, even for a man!!
Avatar f tn I just want to report how thrilled I am with the south beach diet! It has been a real struggle for me to lose weight the past year or two. And, not only losing weight, but Gaining a tremendous amount! I tried so many other plans with no success...a friend of mine told me about South Beach...and I said, "hey! that is one that I haven't tried yet!"...so, even though I was skeptical I bought the book...Here I am 12 pounds lighter and feeling great!
Avatar n tn Am on the south beach diet and am type 2 diabetic. My glucose reading is 87 which is low for me. Am feeling very shaky and weak. Ok to have something with sugar and not ruin my efforts?
393685 tn?1425812522 the SOUTH BEACH diet plan. I have lost 12 pounds in a little over 5 weeks. I have slowed down a bit, because I went to phase 2 which says it will slow down, but I am able to enjoy my carbs also which keeps me honest! I have been struggling for so long and reached my highest weight of 148 pounds back in September/October. I am only 5'1" so it was very uncomfortable and had to buy new clothes in big sizes. I am down to 136 and want to get down to about 125-128.
1466015 tn?1286304436 The smoothie is just plain easy and I have no clue why its working. Either way, you will lose weight if you try one of these approaches. The south beach diet can also be used if your cooking for your kids and husband. They may not like it that much, but the meals are heathy and you can add a bit more for them if it is needed. Then again, if they too have picked up extra weight, it won't hurt them to lose the weight either. Do it together as a family.
1207048 tn?1282174304 Last Monday my husband & I started Phase 1 of the South Beach diet. Phase 1 is super strict, no sugar or carbs of any kind for 2 weeks. We have done very well on it, and I'm very proud of myself for not cheating at all, even though I'm still making food with carbs for the kids. And, you are allowed 75 sugar calories a day, but I've only been having 25 worth of sugar in my coffee. In the 8 days we have been on it I have lost 6 pounds and DH has lost 8.
Avatar n tn I agree with Verona and also urge you to consider a diet (life plan change) as the Zone diet or SOuth Beach Both these diets control insulin and are very helpful with weight in hypothyroid patients. I found the Zone plan to be better. I have taken off about 7 to 10 pounds - I still bloat at times - but I do feel better.
Avatar f tn well i just started my diet today, i think i am stickin with south beach, i have about 80lbs to lose, any advise or other alternatives, going to gym too......
Avatar f tn I like the paleo diet. My weight loss had stalled for a long time, and now I'm losing again on the paleo diet. There's a lot of information out there about the paleo diet, nowadays. A book called The Paleo Approach is a good introduction. I also like the PaleoMom website, and she also has a book that has just come out. Nom Nom Paleo is another good source. In effect, the paleo diet is a low-carb diet, because you don't eat any grains.
325405 tn?1262290178 I do need to start exercising or my weight will be at a stand still. I do know that my dr is very much for the South Beach diet. He stress little to no carbs. Good luck and keep us informed.
Avatar n tn Arthur Agatston, the author of "The South Beach Diet" is also a renown cardiologist. He also has written a book which I recommend titled "The South Beach Heart Program." In it he writes about "aggressive prevention" of heart disease. He advocates aggresive management of cholesterol, blood pressure, and triglycerides. That means statin drugs. He also says that people with known heart risks that follow his program can have a normal life expectancy.
193609 tn?1292180293 Just had to share! Oh, and I am starting the South Beach diet on Tuesday, since it is supposed to be best for people with PCOS!

Avatar n tn It sounds like you were a lot better when you were 30 pounds lighter and you should try to see if re-attaining that weight loss will help in your symptoms. I believe the South Beach Diet is a good way to loose weight and maintain the weight loss if you can follow the diet.
Avatar f tn It is possible to lose 3 pounds/week, but that's a bit ambitious. The recommended weight loss is 1-2 pounds/week to be safe. If you can give us a bit more information, maybe we can help you get started. If you implement food and exercise habits that you can stick with, you will be much more likely to keep the weight off.
Avatar f tn I just have to say again, how happy I am doing the South Beach diet! It is sooooo easy! I just want to be a source of inspiration for anyone who is trying it out! As I said in another post, nothing was working for me. This WORKS! If you follow the plan correctly it is not a fad diet. It is a way of life. You eliminate carbs the first 2 weeks and after that you slowly reintroduce them.
Avatar f tn She has recently done south beach for one month and followed it religiously. She lost practically no weight. She also exercise at least five times a week for an hour and a half. She is very frustrated and I don't have any answers. Unfortunately, her doctors over the years don't seem to be able to help. Should we be looking at type of insulin. Does high protein help? Her weight is in her back across her shoulders and stomach.
Avatar f tn The South Beach Diet. Recmmended by many doctors including our resident medical expert in the professional forum. Buy the book and/or sign up for their internet program. http://www.southbeachdiet.com/sbd/publicsite/funnel/v2/index.aspx?
Avatar f tn Are you doing South Beach Diet or something? I would say back off and try a general low cal. diet like Weight Watchers instead of something as drastic as SB. Try to eat a balanced diet every day.
Avatar n tn re not the most important tool for choosing a diet -- some high calorie foods are very good for losing weight, some low calorie foods are bad for losing weight. The real issue is how you metabolize and digest your food, and that will differ by the person.
Avatar m tn Lots of opinions ("professional" and other) re diet/nutrition. What is working for me now, is a "South Beach/Zone" type of diet which is basically lean meat/fish and vegetables. Almost no starch (bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc) and very little fruit -- maybe one portion three times a week. With this diet -- and copious amounts of exercise -- Ive lost ten pounds, brought my cholesterol down from 200 to 150 and normalized my bp from pre-hypertensive.
Avatar f tn However, I am trying the South Beach Diet because I feel that I have the symptoms of this disorder, and the insulin resistance alone is something that concerns me. I am 22 years old, slightly under 5'8" tall, and my weight floats around the upper 150's. I understand that my BMI is "healthy" but to jump from ~135 to ~155 in such a short amount of time is not normal. I am also 2 pants sizes larger (4 to an 8), which is inconvenient and so uncomfortable.
676032 tn?1315674063 Take a peek at the Zone diet and South Beach plan - this may help you with weight issues if that is what you are asking about. What way do you mean "help" with hypothyroidism?
Avatar f tn I am not yet on medication, but instead my doctor suggested I follow the South Beach Diet. In a short time, I have already lost 5 pounds. I had a very hard time losing weight in the past, but this seems to be working better than others I have tried. You have the right idea about cutting the carbs. Another prediabetes book I have been reading mentioned shooting for less than 30g per meal. South Beach takes you even further during Phase 1 which lasts the first two weeks...
451075 tn?1210258648 For example, years ago I did South Beach and lost a good amount of weight (probably 20 pounds). It seemed that the very minute I ate one piece of bread, I gained 5 pounds. I'm exaggerating just a bit (not much), but you are limiting yourself to a far, far greater degree than even Atkins or South Beach condones. You will regain if you severely restrict yourself and simply resume a healthy diet afterwards. If you can then keep eating in a healthy manner and relose the weight, great.
