Avatar f tn Each one of your meals should include a protein source, a fat source and low-carb vegetables. Working out is extremely important to losing weight quickly and keeping it off. It is best to do some sort of resistance training like weight lifting. If that is not an option, cardio workouts work too.
Avatar n tn I recently consulted with a weight loss doctor who prescribed a sensible diet (moderately low carb) and the medication Adipex. That combination was magic for me. The diet resulted in rapid weight loss, and the prescribed medication made it easier for me to follow the diet. I did have to follow up often with my physician, but the results are worth it!
988694 tn?1332359479 Hi, low carb diet works wonders for diabetics. I went on a low carb diet, lost approx 100 lbs ! which put my diabetic levels back into normal range. As for thyroid function, I never noticed any changes in my hormone labs, due to low carb diet.
2053729 tn?1330435506 In regards to the diet. I DO NOT like to diet because I feel deprived. I started the high carb/low carb because of an article I read by Chris Powell who did Extreme Makeover - Weight Loss. The idea was to stoke the thyroid by confusing it. When you cut out carbs, the thyroid slows down so by having high carbs on alternating days, you confuse the thyroid and it keeps working but then you get the low carb days to help with weight loss. I have really cut back on sugar and junk.
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
Avatar n tn Low carb diets have been shown to be unhealthy long-term. Veggies are all carbs. Fruits are carbs. Complex carbs such as whole grains are the best source of long-term energy. Too much protein, especially animal protein, can cause kidney problems and is linked to a higher rate of cardiovascular disease.
219363 tn?1189755821 I am dieting and exercising not only to feel better, but also to lose weight. I have done a very strict low calorie diet with 1200-1500 calories, and exercise everyday. I might lose 1 lb in 3-4 weeks that way. I have recently started a low carbohydrate diet with calories maybe 1500-1800 daily and 20 carbs maximum. My intake consists of vegetables, lean beef, chicken, pork and fish. I also eat eggs and 4 oz of cheese daily. I am losing weight on this plan.
Avatar f tn Obese adults followed one of the two diets for two years. Those on the low-carb diet had significantly higher cravings for carbohydrates and high-fat foods, although they were less bothered by hunger.
Avatar f tn Probiotics can help too together with digestive enzymes and HCL Try a low carb diet, 100-150g protein, healthy fats (like fish oil, almonds, coconut oil...) and a lot green vegetables (no other carbs then from green vegetables).
Avatar f tn I kept on the very low carb diet, eating mostly proteins - fish fish and more fish I started losing weight really fast. I was originally at 112 - 115 keeping my weight at that by eating a ton on carbs. As soon as I was diagnosed I cut out carbs and now my weight is at 92 - 95 pounds. I am very small boned and when I was younger I weighed between 90 & 95 pounds until I turn 40 something. My morning blood sugar fasting when I was first diagnosed at hardly ever below 135 in the morning.
Avatar f tn Listen there is no easy magic solution to losing weight. When going to the gym do high reps low weight and do the workouts fast without any breaks Lower your carb intake and caloric intake Increase the amount of protein you take in and go running often. There's a difference between training hard and over training your body is made in the kitchen . Lastly a rolles Royce takes 6 months to make and a Toyota takes 13 hours.
Avatar f tn Completely agree with Gymdandee. Tell us more about your diet. What's the diet? And how much weight would you like to lose?
Avatar n tn Hi, I would change my diet to a low carb diet. A lot of news has been coming out about low carb and I am doing low carb. It has really helped me keep my BG down to an acceptable leval. You might try researching the Dr. Bernstein diet for diabetics. It really works and does not affect a person in any bad way. You also do not have to starve yourself on this diet. I eat between 2000 up to 3000 calories a day but those calories are coming from low carb food.
Avatar n tn Maybe look into changing from low fat, to low carb diet. Low carb diet helps some - definitely has helped me where no other diet has. make sure your levels are optimal, as well.
Tbd Hi, depending how long you have had diabetes, and your overall condition, losing weight and changing your diet to a strict low carb diet / keto diet, could possibly put your diabetes into remission or at worst make it very much easier to manage. The principle of low carb diet is restricting carbs, particularly all grains, sugars, starchy veges and sweet fruits, and eating a diet that focusses more on protein, low carb plant foods (veges and non-sweet fruits), some nuts, and healthy fats.
Avatar f tn I been eating more but healthier than i was i have lost a pound a day this week..
Avatar f tn Low carb no carb diet! It's perfectly safe.
1301482 tn?1325722991 Who has done a low carb diet that worked well? Can you give me any tips for low carb snacks/meals?
Avatar f tn I just now looked up the keto diet and thyroid problems - it looks like very low carb intake (ketosis) is associated with lower free T3 levels and may prevent T4 from being converted in to T3, but if you are doing a "low carb" version without giving up carbs completely, you should be ok. (And taking supplemental hormone should help you get to the right level of T3 even if you are in ketosis).
451075 tn?1210258648 s a promise whatever your way of loosing weight. But you can adjust the low-carb from being so low in carb that you loose weight into being just the right amount to maintain the correct weight. I do not agree to that one gets sluggish and tired on low-carbs, actually the reverse is my experience. I get sluggish and tired on high-carbs. I get ALOT more energy when I am on a low carb diet.
Avatar m tn Barb, I was on low-carb diet for a long time, but recently I found out that for many people like me, eating a low-carb diet may weaken the thyroid or even cause hypothyroid. If you google "low carb diet and low thyroid", you will see that eating "safe" carbs like sweet potatoes or rice will help out your thyroid a lot. http://chriskresser.
Avatar f tn t think too much is good for you, but it does score well for losing weight. Low carb diets are a fad with no research showing long-term gains and do show long-term health problems are possible, so again, why bother? All veggies are carbs and they are the mainstay of a healthy diet.
594189 tn?1386916607 Maybe the low carb diet is right for your body? Not everyone can follow all diet plans. I still eat carbs (a ton) and I'm still losing weight without a problem. Maybe stick to this low carb diet till the end of the month and see what weight comes off, if none maybe switch to something of your own.
