905258 tn?1255272917 I'm starting to get concerned that I may actually be losing weight too quickly to be considered healthy. When I started my new diet on July 15 I weighed 257.1 lbs. Today I weighed in at 231.8 lbs. That gives me an average of about 3.8 lbs per week. I am 19 yrs old, male, 5'8''. I normally try to eat between 1500 and 1700 calories per day, plus a multivitamin to fill in any nutritional gaps.

You probably know that losing weight quickly usually means you gain it back later because it means you have to do something fairly extreme rather than make lasting changes to your diet and how much you exercise. Slow weight loss stays off, quick usually doesn't.
Avatar n tn You could have an over active thyroid causing you to lose that much weight so fast. Some of the symptoms you describe could be attributed to thyroid issues. And just because your blood tests came back "normal", doesn't mean the levels are actually normal for YOU. You might also want to ask your doctor to run other hormone tests to make sure your estrogen and other hormone levels are where they should be.
Avatar f tn Most of the ways that will help you lose weight "fast" are not healthy for you and once you stop doing what you are/were doing, you will most likely gain back whatever weight you lost, plus some........ It's generally figured that losing about 1-2 pounds/week is the safest; that's not fast, but if you actually make "lifestyle changes" that you can stick with, you will be better prepared to keep off whatever you lose.

Avatar n tn re not the most important tool for choosing a diet -- some high calorie foods are very good for losing weight, some low calorie foods are bad for losing weight. The real issue is how you metabolize and digest your food, and that will differ by the person.

Avatar n tn Milk isn't good for you anyway, so that's no loss, and it doesn't really add weight all that much unless you eat a ton of it. But here's the thing -- unless you have a physiological condition that prevents you from absorbing the food you eat, and that is a condition that exists, eating more of anything will help you gain weight. The more food you eat that metabolizes quickly into sugar or contains high fat will likely help you to gain weight.

Avatar n tn If you've doing these things already for awhile, then no, it won't suddenly start making you lose weight. If you just started doing this, then it might. If you were completely sedentary your whole life and you're young, starting any exercise program and eating better should start showing some results quickly.
