Avatar n tn Suspect you will still need to control your portion size while on low carb. Be persistent, and patient. For some people losing weight is tremendously hard. Further, would recommend you get your thyroid checked. Low thyroid can also contribute to very hard weight loss. For thyroid you should have the following tests as a starting point. FT3 and FT4. These results should be at least middle of the range (or a bit higher), TSH. This should be ideally in the range of 1 -2.
Avatar f tn A low carb diet causes the body to go into Ketosis whereby the body uses its fat as a source of energy. Also when you are in ketosis your body feels less hungry. This all sounds good except that this can also lead to kidney issues (even failure), osteoporosis, and kidney stones. Stay balanced and control your calories and you'll lose weight and avoid the side effects. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi Sammyg, Don't be discouraged with no weight loss in two weeks! Some people may lose 5-10 lbs immediately starting a new diet, but that is usually water weight and not true loss. I gained 25-30 lbs without diet change and while exercising a lot in 2015 and 2016. I lost 25 lbs in 2017 after realizing how much weight I had gained (and while having other hypo symptoms) by upping my exercise regime and counting every single calorie I ate for about a year.
Avatar f tn I have diabetes, and now my doctors has prescribe insulin, but they also say that I wont loose weight but should not gain either. What do I do to loose weight. I walk everyday for a half hour.
Avatar f tn I'm 14 and I want to know the beat way for me to start losing weight. As most wieghtloss deits are for people 15 and over.
Avatar m tn According to everything I have read about nutrition and losing weight I should have lost a lot more weight. The only thing that may have interfered is once a week I would eat carbs but even then almost never went above my maintenance level in calories. Fatigue: I have dealt with tiredness and fatigue for many years, even when I am well rested I regularly am tired through texhaustednd feel exausted physically and a lot of times mentally.
Avatar f tn I think the closest a doctor could ethically do at this time to what you are suggesting is one of the different kinds of gastric bypass surgery, and even those, someone has to qualify for by being healthy enough (other than their weight) to take the stress. The problem with knocking someone out and keeping them on an IV is that being kept knocked out has its own health challenges.
Avatar f tn You can lose fat, without losing weight by eating a healthy diet and exercising. You need the strength training to build the muscles that will burn the fat. But maybe, since you're under weight you don't really have fat to burn, you just need to tone your muscles? If that's the case, exercise will be the key. You might try yoga for that - works great.
Avatar f tn There have been some other recent posts regarding the Atkins type diet, you might find them interesting reading. It's my understanding that this type of diet does not count calories or anything other than carbs. The general basis for losing weight is "calories in/calories out" - meaning that if you take in more calories than you expend, you will not lose weight.
Avatar f tn Really that is the only way to lose and maintain weight regardless of all the diets etc. Taking a particular med to avoid weight gain and doing nothing should result in weight gain. Some do stimulate appetitie and some do the opposite but it is us that decides what and how much to eat.
Avatar n tn This may be ketosis or in your case post exercise ketosis. You smell like acetone in a ketosis state . This is as close as i can find to nail polish; acetone is an ingredient in nail polish remover. The reason for ketosis is due to not enough glucose and so the body has to break down stored fat and convert it into energy instead. Metabolizing fat raises blood ketone levels therefore leading to ketosis.
Avatar n tn t a lot, but losing weight slowly by changing your diet and exercise habits permanently, not by using some "diet," will make it more likely the weight will stay off.
1436324 tn?1283698760 The ways to control type 2 diabetes is with change of diet (reduction of carbs), weight loss if necessary, exercise, and, if necessary, medication. Medication is not the enemy, and if it is needed can help control your blood sugar. However, I agree with the previous poster that it shouldn't be the first choice; diet, exercise and weight loss should. I am going to send you a PM with a website with a lot more diabetics of both types. There you will get the support and knowledge you need.
Avatar m tn Ketotic hypoglycemia more commonly refers to a common but mysterious "disease" of recurrent hypoglycemic symptoms with ketosis in young children. The cause and the homogeneity of the condition remain uncertain,[1] but a characteristic presentation, precipitating factors, diagnostic test results, treatment, and natural history can be described. It remains one of the more common causes of hypoglycemia in the age range.
Avatar f tn Hello - thank you for responding to our comments. One thing I notice is that although your thyroid hormone levels are within the ranges, they aren't optimal. Most of us find that we feel best with Free T4 at mid-range; your Free T4 is only at 43% of its range. In addition, most of us feel best with Free T3 in the upper half to upper third of its range; your Free T3 is only at 41% of its range. Free T3 should be higher in its range than Free T4 in its range.
Avatar f tn I am 18 weeks pregnant and I am having trouble just maintaining my weight. I have lost 25lbs so far during my pregnancy. I have potassium issues and struggled with Hyperemesis during the 1st trimester. My doctor wants me to use the food diary in the my fitness pal app. I have been for over a week now and I can't even meet my daily caloric intake for myself--not to mention the extra 300 calories I should be taking in for baby.

Avatar f tn I am 27 weeks and have gained 5 lbs I lost weight st the beginning. I had trouble gaining weight. I myself had a lack of carbohydrates, ketosis. I didn't know how to properly feed myself. Yes doctors were so concern I started at 147 went down to 137 at 5'6. I have to go for weight checks, gynecology and nutrition. My baby boy is growing without doubt. 593810 tn?1251223030 I eventually had to be admitted to the hospital for overnight stays where they helped me to gain some weight (I was losing a lott of weight). Nothing helped, not medicine, not preggo-pops, not suppositories, not sips of water. I couldn't even think about keeping prenatals down. It was misery. If this happens to you, I feel for you, but women do deliver just fine. I didn't, but they told me it had nothing to do with the vomiting.
873325 tn?1295461896 Your poor little girl. I looked this up and her symptoms do fit the diagnosis. Lack of carbohydrates play a big part. Has she been seen by a pediatric endocrinologist? If not, this would be my next step. Read the article below and hopefully it will help. Ketotic hypoglycemia: the "disease" Ketotic hypoglycemia more commonly refers to a common but mysterious "disease" of recurrent hypoglycemic symptoms with ketosis in young children.
Avatar f tn When are you seeing " 400+count of sugar"? If at fasting, levels this high usually warrants the addition of insulin. At other times it is always in the best interest of the patient to consult with their primary care physician regarding adjustments/additions to existing medications. Keep in mind levels this high are dangerous to your well being.
