AFter that I tried WW again and only lost 16 after 8 months on WW! Stayed at the 160 range and VERY unhappy (I am 5"3) and got pregnant with #3. After #3 I tried WW again and only lost 5 lbs in 6 MOS! Tried Metabolic Research Ctr (ketosis diet) and lost 40 lbs in 4 mos.

Avatar f tn A low carb diet causes the body to go into Ketosis whereby the body uses its fat as a source of energy. Also when you are in ketosis your body feels less hungry. This all sounds good except that this can also lead to kidney issues (even failure), osteoporosis, and kidney stones. Stay balanced and control your calories and you'll lose weight and avoid the side effects. Good luck.
Avatar f tn If you are not showing ketosis, you might be hungry because you are not burning your fat and might be losing muscle mass or structural fat(which you need to keep). If you are in ketosis, but are still hungry, I recommend upping your protein levels slightly, either by raising the amount of meat you are eating by 1/2 to 1 ounce per meal, or adding a protein shake.
Avatar f tn Also, you can get ketosis test strips from your pharmacy and check to see if you are in ketosis. (Fat burning state). If you are not in ketosis at all that can explain why you are struggling so much with the diet. (If you are not metabolizing your fat, you are not being "fed" so would therefore be hungry. It is your metabolized fat that is supposed to be nourishing you while on the hcg diet.
Avatar n tn Suspect you will still need to control your portion size while on low carb. Be persistent, and patient. For some people losing weight is tremendously hard. Further, would recommend you get your thyroid checked. Low thyroid can also contribute to very hard weight loss. For thyroid you should have the following tests as a starting point. FT3 and FT4. These results should be at least middle of the range (or a bit higher), TSH. This should be ideally in the range of 1 -2.
Avatar f tn Hi Sammyg, Don't be discouraged with no weight loss in two weeks! Some people may lose 5-10 lbs immediately starting a new diet, but that is usually water weight and not true loss. I gained 25-30 lbs without diet change and while exercising a lot in 2015 and 2016. I lost 25 lbs in 2017 after realizing how much weight I had gained (and while having other hypo symptoms) by upping my exercise regime and counting every single calorie I ate for about a year.

Avatar f tn You could try MCT Oil and acetyl l-carnitine. MCT oil is a medium chain triglyceride oil that has been used to promote ketosis in epileptics. Ketosis is fat burning. (Don't ask me why epileptics need ketosis, I have no idea). Both of these would be safe for children. hCG was discovered by simeons when he was treating "fat boys" in India. He was using it on them because of their sexual organs and found that their weight came off and what ever the gonad problem was was fixed too.
Avatar f tn You can lose fat, without losing weight by eating a healthy diet and exercising. You need the strength training to build the muscles that will burn the fat. But maybe, since you're under weight you don't really have fat to burn, you just need to tone your muscles? If that's the case, exercise will be the key. You might try yoga for that - works great.

The only thing that may have interfered is once a week I would eat carbs but even then almost never went above my maintenance level in calories. Fatigue: I have dealt with tiredness and fatigue for many years, even when I am well rested I regularly am tired through texhaustednd feel exausted physically and a lot of times mentally.
Avatar n tn This may be ketosis or in your case post exercise ketosis. You smell like acetone in a ketosis state . This is as close as i can find to nail polish; acetone is an ingredient in nail polish remover. The reason for ketosis is due to not enough glucose and so the body has to break down stored fat and convert it into energy instead. Metabolizing fat raises blood ketone levels therefore leading to ketosis.
Avatar f tn Really that is the only way to lose and maintain weight regardless of all the diets etc. Taking a particular med to avoid weight gain and doing nothing should result in weight gain. Some do stimulate appetitie and some do the opposite but it is us that decides what and how much to eat.

At the beginning of the 2nd week, I switched the lunch menus for the dinner menus so I would eat the fuller meal in the middle of the day when I'm more active. I increased my physical activity by walking, mowing the grass, vigorously cleaning the house. My blood glucose levels were lower than they've ever been during this period and since as I've tried to eat moderately and exercise vigorously.
Avatar f tn There have been some other recent posts regarding the Atkins type diet, you might find them interesting reading. It's my understanding that this type of diet does not count calories or anything other than carbs. The general basis for losing weight is "calories in/calories out" - meaning that if you take in more calories than you expend, you will not lose weight.
Avatar n tn If she is gaining weight, then this means that she is not at this point in ketosis, not burning off her body fat because of lack of insulin. Her sugar at two hours after drinking juice does sound a little high, but the real test is how her body is doing in a 24-hour period. If her mom thinks that her habits are somewhat unusual, her doctor could run an a1c lab test to see if her overall pattern is normal or not. That may be the best test of all.

Avatar n tn I have always had my best success on a low carb regimen because it would ward off binge eating. And by the time I lost weight my stomach would shrink so my appetite was changed. Yes this doesn't fix the underlying emotional reasons for being fat. anyways many studies have proven low carb diets to help diabetic people in some cases get rid of them all together. They also help kids with autism and kids who have epilepsy.
