Avatar f tn My Hubby and I really want to go trail riding! Just easy walking with horses that do this every day...would this be ok?
Avatar m tn My husband was diagnosed with cirrhosis 18 months ago and has had 7 varices banded since then. He has completely quit drinking and chewing tobacco. 3 months ago he went in for a check up and the doctor said he had 2 small varices banded. The doctor said they were small and really didn't need to band them, but since he was in there decided to band them. He placed him on the standard 15 lb weight limit.
334876 tn?1229979296 Oooohh! Touchy! Touchy! Touchy! Well, obviously she doesn't have a clue about weight limits of horses, but being a kid, that would be understandable. Are her parents horse people? Perhaps you could *kindly* mention your concern to them. Perhaps you, or your son, could also *kindly* mention to her that you think those l-o-n-g rides are too much for the horse and just make sure when your son goes out with her that they don;t go out for such long rides.
Avatar f tn I'm 30weeks pregnant. Should I stay off of horses or no? I've ridden before but haven't had the chance to ride since I found out. What do y'all think?
8348668 tn?1397849182 And by your nickname do you ride horses? That type of activity could lead to a ruptured disc. Any kind of jarring injury or activity can do that. These can be chronic annoying problems or sudden acute problems causing ongoing annoying pain or sudden agonizing pain. How they are dealt with depends on how bad they are. If the disc press on a nerve so bad that a leg is losing strength, then surgery is needed to get the disc off the nerve.
Avatar f tn I have owned and rode horses all my life. I am having difficulty coping with not being able to ride because ppl told me I cant. Is it seriously that big a deal to ride? I don't want to hurt my baby, but it's literally the only thing I have done for myself and can't deal with giving it up for so long...
1365668 tn?1277946866 Nope don't do it. My mother trains horses and as far as riding goes while pregnant it doesn't matter how trained your horse is there are a million outside factors that could spook the horse and cause you to fall off or make the horse buck or rear. We have all Arabians so they are a little more temperamental but its better to just refrain while you can.
Avatar f tn There could be a variety of reasons that she is losing weight and falling because of her weakness. The vet would need to determine if the situation is a medical one, or the mare is just not getting enough nutrition. Pregnancy and nursing can take a lot out of a mare. During this time, nutrition requirements are different than if she were not pregnant/nursing. As well, there could be a problem with her teeth, and they would need "floating" by the vet.
Avatar n tn Not safe anymore, sorry! I love horse riding too and we'll just have to put it aside for some months now!
Avatar m tn One mare is plump and beautiful but the rest are just losing weight. My sister said the Texas drought is effecting them worse than any other animal. I don't know.....
6710217 tn?1386110892 Instead of bouncing on a yoga ball can you just go horse back riding? Not like running or galloping but just going on a walk cuz its a bumpy ride...
Avatar f tn Horses can lose weight for a variety of reasons. It is concerning that your horses are losing weight rapidly, and even dying. About food.. Have you weighed it out? The amount of food you feed one horse in a day should be about 2.5 percent of the horses' body weight (the weight you want teh horse to be). For a 1200 pound horse , that would be about 8.2kg (18.0lbs) of forage (hay) per day, and 5.5kg (12.0lbs) of concentrates(grain) per day. You should aways feed more hay than grain .
Avatar m tn t get enough exercise and have both always been a little porky until he started losing weight. He still has a lot of energy but has always been spirited with a need to be in the lead riding... always had to hold him back. He's registered Arabian/Paint. The mare is quarter horse/paint and really stocky. We've had them both for 7 years. She is 11 years old.
867582 tn?1311627397 Jeez, my daughter used to help run our riding classes for the disabled and the MS Society local riding days, she had people riding horses who were in wheelchairs. Come to Aussie, I could find you somewhere to ride :-) My horse is yeah a baby, only just 4 but was turned out to grow and mature, it's spring here and all the lovely grass is coming through, I love him, but it has scared me a bit, I am not a teenager anymore and the bounce has gone.
615350 tn?1272598969 I just learned about it a few days ago, but she has had it for a while. My question is, Should a person with this disease stop riding horses even after having the decompression surgery? She has not had the surgery yet, but she may have to soon.
7930748 tn?1395500860 ve had the horse a lifetime but you just cannot predict anything when it comes to riding. Riding is considered a risk sport anyway. It's upto you.
Avatar f tn I just get a natural high at being around my horses, I have had times when I am not so confident about riding, at the moment vertigo seems to be posing a few issues but then I just go and brush them etc. even this is good therapy.

Avatar f tn It seems that you really do love horses and are passionate about riding and taking care of horses! I do not know your mother's reasons for not allowing you to have a horse at this time, but perhaps you can talk to her and understand her point of view? having your own horse can be VERY expensive. Not only the price of the horse, but the board, the farrier, the Veterinarian,. any medical expenses, your riding lessons, your tack, riding gear, etc. Maybe this is the reason? Also, about time..
Avatar n tn I was riding several weeks into my third trimester and my daughter is perfectly fine. With my first I rode up to about 6 months and that daughter is also fine. Of course, I never fell off while pregnant. The riding itself will not hurt you or your baby; it's the sudden shock of hitting the ground that can cause problems. Horseback riding always has inherent risks. But "tourist" horses you are likely to encounter on vacation are about as safe as it gets.
