1467664 tn?1288579313 A couple thoughts, Sam. Have you been checked for thyroid? Thyroid disease is more common with us type 1's and that could make it very hard to lose weight. Do get a simple blood test for your thyroid fuction. One sure way that type 1's gain weight is to go by the philosophy of "eat whatever I want and bolus for it". That means more carbs, more insulin, more weight and possible development of insulin resistance which you do not want!
Avatar n tn It is important to know that a diet plan is not about cutting down calories; it’s about ‘healthy’ eating. With cutting on diet one may initially lose weight but this may remain static or increase later due to fat accumulation. When one cuts down on calories, the body sends a signal to the brain which in turn turns on the ‘stress hormones’ and the body switches into the ‘starvation mode’ and paradoxically one may notice no change in weight or an increased weight and fat accumulation.
Avatar f tn I have symptoms of cushings but recently lost weight after cutting out white carbs and sugar and because I’m so scared, I stopped eating. Today I only had a few pieces of cheese and a couple falafel balls. Is it normal to lose weight? My face used to be puffy and it’s thin now. I’m scared this is caused by a cancerous tumor. I had a clear pituitary mri and a clear abdominal ct scan. I’m losing tons of hair and growing facial hair. My muscles feel weak. I’m prediabetic and insulin resistant.
Avatar n tn Are you having trouble losing weight on the Phentermine alone? I am on this too 15 mg twice a day. It isn't a complete stop appetite pill. I started out taking it once a day in the morning. Then later twice per day. I helps me to control how much I eat. I started in January and now I'm 37 pounds down. But before I started to take this medicine I got away from red meats, sweets, white bread. Basically carbs all around. That got me into a good eating habit.
Avatar m tn Hi there! If you are aiming at losing weight, it is important to calculate your current BMI and the target BMI. The target BMI should be in a healthy range. Aside indulging in moderate amounts of physical exercise it is also essential to maintain a healthy diet plan. A healthy diet should consist of adequate amounts of calories with carbohydrates, proteins, fat and plenty of fruits and vegetables to supply vitamins and minerals.
Avatar f tn Good question, and for each person, there's a different answer. For some people, they can do a 1200 - 1500 calorie diet, depending on height, weight, and activity level. For others, that kind of diet would be cutting far too many calories and could even be dangerous. And for others still, it may be too many calories. Factors that contribute are height, age, activity level, and gender. Men can eat more than women. The taller you are, the more you need to eat.
Avatar f tn We do need some carbs, but a lot of people have lost a lot of weight by simply cutting anything white.... flour, bread, sugar, tortillas, rice, etc. Eat the healthiest food available. The short of it is, eating right, eating often but watching the caloric intake, drinking plenty of water and getting plenty of exercise.....
1484618 tn?1290000665 Cut out soda, cut down on simple sugars & simple Carbs. Smaller meals, balanced diet. Walk, ease into workouts. Think lifestyle changes instead of quick instant results. Losing weight for us PCOSers is difficult no matter how overweight we are. Don't get discouraged. As little as 10lbs can make a difference.
Avatar m tn I'm not a fan of "across the board" low carb diets, because not all carbs are created equal. By the same token, I don't advocate cutting out any one food group, such as the bread. I would suggest switching to whole grain breads and limit the amount (not eliminate it completely), implement lots of veggies into your diet (complex/good carbs and fiber). Agree that lots of protein will help keep you from losing muscle, but won't prevent it completely.

Avatar m tn Irrespective, assuming type 2 diabetes, the treatment will be losing weight if overweight, cutting carbs (particularly sugar, grains, starches - look into low carb / ketogenic diet), exercise, and medications if the previous lifestyle approaches are not sufficient. You can do this.
Avatar n tn Does anyone have any secrets to losing weight with hypothyroid? Have been diagnosed now for a yr and 1/2. Have joined a gym and been eating more veg. and fruit but still can't lose any suggestions?
Avatar n tn First, if you're at all muscular, you're not all that overweight. If you're not muscular, you don't need to lose a ton of weight. Calories aren't key to losing weight -- how quickly and efficiently you metabolize your food into sugar and how well you digest your nutrients is far more important.
Avatar f tn I am starting to get my eating habits on track and just making healthier choices - my question is this, does anyone have any experience losing weight without additional exercise. I ask this as my job is quite physical and long hours so I'm just exhausted when I come home @ night. Any tips or advice would be appreciated!

Avatar f tn I cannot exercise a whole lot do to a medical condition where I suffer from daily headaches and pressure in my head. Losing weight will actually help this condition. Besides my overall health, this is why it is so important that I lose weight. I have lost weight in the past, but always seem to gain it back. 2053729 tn?1330435506 The idea was to stoke the thyroid by confusing it. When you cut out carbs, the thyroid slows down so by having high carbs on alternating days, you confuse the thyroid and it keeps working but then you get the low carb days to help with weight loss. I have really cut back on sugar and junk. I eat a lot more vegetable and make sure that I eat protein before i work out. I guess I am just gaining more muscle then losing fat right now.
Avatar f tn I've been working out for the past month and instead of losing weight I'm gaining weight. I'm a 25 yr old female. I use my albuterol inahaler every morning before exercising since I suffer from asthma. My usual workout includes at least 30 min of cardio 4-5 times a week and of couple of abs. I've been eating healthier. This morning I weighed myself and realized I gained 3lbs in 2 days, this is insane! I don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn Lucky. I keep gaining weight. But its normal when you're cutting out carbs from your diet to lose a few unneeded pounds. As long as you're eating healthy and taking your vitamins you baby is fine. And to people who say you shouldn't lose weight while pregnant they're wrong it depends on the person. Depending on how much you weigh losing some weight isn't a bad thing. Just talk to your doctor.
Avatar f tn It's usually water weight, which is normal. It can fluctuate a lot. Unless your Dr is concerned, I would not worry about your weight. Just eat healthy and take the prenatals.
