losing weight after prozac

Hi all, I am severely depressed & have been taking Prozac for a month now & my doc suggested Abilify to add. I had already put on 30lbs from lexapro, which is part of becoming depressed again. I have been on the Abilify for 6days now & can tell it is having a positive impact on me. I have had enough motivation to work out the past two days & I am really watching what I'm eating. Has anyone here had success with losing weight on Abilify & prozac?

Hi there. Hopefully with the Prozac, you've been feeling better! I think it is really key to be aware. One key way to stay fit and to burn calories is what they call interval training. Easy to do. Basically it is high intensity (whatever that is for you) in a burst of say 1.5 to 2 minutes and then 3 to 5 minutes of lower intensity. So if you walk, walk at a brisk pace for the lower intensity and then for the burst-- do a light job or super fast walk pumping arms.

Anyhow Effexor did wonders for my attitude however after 3 years I am now convinced that it was the cause for all the excess weight. Anyhow I was wondering if the weight comes off after I get off the meds? or am I stuck with excess weight forever in which case I will be contacting my doctor because they lied to me.

When can I expect to start losing some of this horrible weight i gained from Paxil??? I have been off it now for about 10 days I started it in the beginning of january. 20 mgs then 10 then 5. I gained 40 pounds I look like a fat pig.

I initially lost weight until I gained all and more weight back. Has anyone experienced this and have you done to help in losing weight?

s use can lead to people often losing weight. This is something that has been concerning myself as well as I would stay as far away from mirtazapine on this issue as possible, although the damage initially with mirtazapine subsides over time it is initially quite a shock.

I tried losing weight a while ago. I walked 8km a day which is equivalent to 5 miles and I was eating low carb low fat salads and I did this for 3 months and lost only a measly 3 kg which is about 6.5 pounds. Pretty crap for 3 months of trying really hard! So yeah my naturopath will help me with an eating plan plus I play netball twice a week and tonight I am starting Zumba! So hopefully when I get off these meds I will start to lose weight.

If your concern is only the weight change factor just keep an eye on your weight and if you start to notice you that your gaining or losing call your doctor. The weight is one of the less serious side effects. But do your research on the Paxil and the dosage. Or nothing may happen at all the side effects vary from person to person. You may not have any side effects.

A question to anyone out there that's taken Prozac and gained weight have they changed to a different medication because of it and which one? Did it do the job it needs to without the weight gain of Prozac?

m on Prozac, which has been around for ages as well. I initially put on some weight but that leveled out and I have read studies that say it only causes weight gain in those that are underweight to begin with. This was certainly true in my case. However I now weigh less than I did prior to tx and Prozac and it seems that I'm at my 'natural weight' and according to statistics etc I am slap bang in the middle of normal weight for my height and age.

I took Prozac years ago after a bad breakup and after losing my grandfather. It worked great at first. Lost weight, had energy. It slowly turned in my body without me realizing it. After 3 months, I was more depressed than ever. I, at first thought that I just needed more. My doctor even told me to up the dose. I finally just stopped it and after a few days I felt better and better and then happy again.

I have had constant anxiety for over a month now... no relief whatsoever. I am having chest pains, and heartburn that burns my throat. I always get very anxious over eating.. I was wondering, at what dosage did you notice a gain or loss of weight? I've read about people either gaining or losing weight, but no one says what dosage they're on. I'm taking 25mg right now and the doc and I were talking of moving me to 50mg. Standing at a whopping 5ft, I of course worry about the weight gain.

At first I actually lost about half a stone in weight, putting me in the underweight category. but after a few weeks I went back up again to almost what I was before. I didn't really experience any weight gain at any point, however I believe it's different for everyone.

Well I got in contact with a friend who is a doctor and told her the story, and they said that the prozac after 3 weeks would still be in my system, so returning to a small dose should be easier for me. And i will get into contact with the doc - I think I was just frustrated with them for all the kerfuffle about the meds. didnt think about seeing another derdermatologist but I may do that before possibly increasing the dose.

I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain. Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.

Hi hubby on wk20 on Tues out of 24wk when he finished with the teleprevir his appetite came back but he is still losing weight so far he as lost over 2 stone and we cant understand why when he eating so well.

ll have to go through getting off Paxil after such a long period of use. Prozac is said to not have the weight gain problem, but if your problem is anxiety, Prozac probably won't be as good. No way of knowing, but that's generally true. Lexapro also is known for fewer side effects, but it has its effects and it might not work for you and it too can cause weight gain. The question is, do you still need the Paxil after 10 years?

As the first comment correctly stated, losing weight fast doesn't last and leaves you weaker, which you don't want to be if you're getting ready for basic training. Why not wait to join the military until you're ready?

I was put on prozac to help me stop drinking. It didnt work. I also ended up going off it I had a fluttering heart and other bad side effects, I personally think that drug should be banned. It causes stress not relieves it. Now im on paxil im just wondering will i gain weight from this drug?
