296025 tn?1233256719 My mother is 81 years young and has been losing weight even though she eats regularly. Is there any reason for this? She had a hip replacement about three years ago and lost down to 88 lbs.She is small frame build with height at 5'5" and is weighing around 95 lbs. She had been around 115 before operation. It is easy to find how to lose but not much info on how to gain weight.
Avatar f tn You can try replacement shakes! Check on Pinterest for some whole vegetable and fruit meal replacements! I plan on doing this after I deliver my baby in march!
368396 tn?1391945302 No, it is not OK to be on cane so long after hip replacement. In all probability, being overweight and not going for physiotherapy has added to the problem. Since it is nearly one and half years since the replacement, you will need a re-evaluation of the hip condition and then physiotherapy may be started to strengthen the muscles around the joint. Thigh pain is probably due to pressure on the muscles. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!
Avatar n tn what are my chances of getting better and not having to have a hip replacement? This discussion is related to weakness in legs.

Avatar m tn all I know is that mine are titanium also.I had partial weight bearing after about two weeks. After about a month or so I could walk a little with a cane. time can be as long as 8- to 12 weeks.Pyshical therapy is very important. You will be uncomfortable for the first couple weeks.I hope you can sleep on your back.Take the pain meds when needed. They will have you up the next day after surgery, with a walker.
Avatar m tn Hi gottilee, It's nice to see you back on the Pain Forum again. I'm sure you remember that we're ALL CP Chronic Pain Patients and not Doctor's, but I just wanted to remind you since it's been awhile. :) I'm sorry that you will be facing a hip replacement. I'm currently recuperating from my 3rd hip replacement. Don't let that frighten you at all because the FIRST one lasted almost 30 years and after it I did EVERYTHING thing that I did before the implant.

Avatar n tn On August 7, 2008 ( his third day back at work light duty) he was walking when his femur fractured, that evening he had a total hip replacement. He had more pain after the second surgery and muscle weakness, we were told it was because he had two surgeries in 7 weeks, Almost a year later he suffers from severe to mild pain even when sitting still. He has had blood tests, x rays, cortisone shots, and a bone scan.

1155902 tn?1262438082 I would suggest you to discuss with your surgeon and rule out deep vein thrombosis. LMWH (low molecular weight heparin) is effective after hip replacement surgery. I would also suggest you to rule out acidity due to chronic use of pain killers. Take care!
370181 tn?1595629445 I am wondering if I will need a hip replacement. My hip is always sore and achey. It is sore to touch it. I am a overweight but working on it. I am getting something new here too which may be related but maybe not. I am getting a prickly/pinching sensation that runs from that hip area down to my groin. In your experience working with patients have you ever heard of this type of symptom before? Thanks so much!!! Joann D.
Avatar m tn I too had a THR about five years ago. Soon after, I began having knee pain. Xrays and cortisone injections had no effect. I then started having groin pain. At that time my orthopedic surgeon did various tests and determined there was no infection. Under floroscopy, he manipulated the hip and injected a steroid which lasted about 1 1/2 years. The pain in my hip has worsened and now the groin pain and thigh pain has begun again.
Avatar m tn In May 2009 I had a total left knee replacement. December 2009, left hip replacement. June 2010 Right hip replacement. In June 2011, my doctor told me the Left knee component had come loose and needed to be replaced. Revision left knee done in December 2011. He said the cement had failed to bond to the bone on tibia and femur. He basically lifted out the prosthesis. He did say that 3 brands of cement are available and he used a different type in the TKR revision surgery.
Avatar m tn It hurts when it does. Occurs during weight-beating and non weight bearing. Therapist says muscle may be increasing in bulk but not stretching out causing other soft tissues??? to have to pop over them. Hard to walk, sleep, sit. anyone else with similar issues. when does this go away?
Avatar m tn I'm new to this group but have been around for a while in the MS forum. As carolanivey said, the pain that you describe as being in his groin is really in his hip. I used to think that hip pain had to be felt on the outside. Not so much :-) The actual hip socket is right where the top of the femur turns in to meet the pelvis. This was a marvel of anatomy I learned when my doc told me I had about 80% bone on bone osteoarthritis in my left hip. I was 49 then (53 now).
649848 tn?1534633700 Hi.....my scale is upstairs and I am still prohibited from doing stairs. IDK if you want this weight, but the morning of my surgery, I had lost 1 pound for the week. If I weighed right now, I would be up SEVERAL, lol. I have MUCH swelling from the surgery. My left leg is swollen from hip to ankle. It is worth it, though :) I am so happy to have my new knee !
