The blood pressure is then controlled to 107~135 mmHg(high pressure) / 65~80 mmHg(low pressure). In 2015: My mother suddenly felt dizzy and she was found that her blood pressure jumped to 80~90 mmHg(high pressure) / 50 mmHg(low pressure). That did help but now I am wondering if I am taking too much potassium. I starting concentrating on foods with potassium such as bananas and also increased my supplement to two a day instead of one. Now, lately, on top of the fatigue I was already having (from other issues?) I have been feeling swimmy-headed and having a lot of headaches as well as increased feeling of exhaustion. I am wondering if I am taking in too much potassium now.

Did your doctor mention to avoid high levels of potassium while taking Losartan? Too much potassium is called Hyperkalemia and it can be extremely deadly if not treated. I am trying to come off Atenolol after 7 years and a few weeks ago a doctor put me on Losartan Potassium and did not tell me that though I asked if I should avoid anything. My new VA doctor wants to change one of my blood pressure medications from 160 mg of Valsartan 2 times per day to an equivalent dose of 100 mg of Losartan but only once per day. Increased heart rate, restlessness etc can be due to Hyzaar. Yes, there are many other drugs besides hydrochlorothiazide and losartan (Hyzaar) which can be taken for high blood pressure. Please ask your doctor to change Hyzaar, maybe increase the frequency or dose of Atenelol as it was suiting you. However, please do not make any changes yourself. Buy a home recording BP instrument and keep a check on your daily blood pressure in the morning and evening. Take care!

I was on losartan for a few months. I don't think that my bp was consistenlty high. I think what was going on was that it was very up and down and it was making me feel pretty bad. But losartan which is a third line for bp was the first thing that they put me on. And I don't think my bp was that bad. I have had elevated renin/aldosterone studies and low potassium in the past.

5 mg is a lower dose for triamterene. hydrochlorothiazide will cause you to lose potassium so essentially your levels should not drop. 25 mg is the normal dose for hctz. There are stronger diuretics out there so these are not "too high." If you are worried about lowering your BP, just watch for signs of dizziness, especially with prolonged standing or when you change from a sitting/lying position quickly up to a standing one.
