I have had increased blood pressure and heart rate over the last several months and my doctor put me on Toprol XL 25mg. Now I am having severe pain in my right knee which goes down into my ankle causing sharp pain. Could this problem be caused by the medication I am taking for my BP? I am taking the generic form, Metoprolol ER. Thank you.
I have had endometriosis removed during a laparoscopic procedure and later with endometrial ablation but continue to have a 14 day period. I went to the dr and he prescribed Toprol 50mg XL. I was scared to start this medication without any testing so I did not. The next day in the evening I felt chest pressure with slight pain and my heart started racing I felt dizzy with no peripheral vision. I took my B/P and it was 180/100. I got my husband and we went to the ER.
My husband also has irregular heart rate and this week we got him switched back from generic metoprolol succinate to toprol XL and lo and behold he is back in good heart rhythm. That got me thinking if indeed my problem could be similiar.......one thing that has really upset me is that after my heart attack my EF was at 42% and it has dropped to 30% and again wonder if I need to be on diferent drugs. My dr thinks that isn't the answer but I'm not sure......

Hi, Everyone. My EP switched me from Sotalol (160 mg daily) to Toprol XL (25 mg daily). His instructions were to stop taking Sotalol (no weaning) and start taking Toprol. It was a HUGE leap of faith for me as I have tried to not obsess about this. Today was my first day. I'm doing fine, but want to know if anyone else has made the same switch and faired well. Thanks!
My pharmacacy switched my "Toprol XL 50 mg" to a Generic one called "Metoprolol Succinate ER 50 mg" (manufactured by Sandoz) in December 2007. I have been on some form of Beta Blockers for years and I thought nothing of it. Within a week I was at my eye doctor because my left eye went from 20/20 to 20/60 and was so blurry that I felt like I had suntan lotion or something in it. Since then I have been to so many doctors because things just kept getting worse.
About two weeks ago I woke in the night with fast heart rate and was brought to the ER. I have had fast heart rate in the past and my internal medicine doctor put me on toprol xl 50 mg once a day. At the hospital they did cardiac testing and told me it was anxiety. On the ECG they performed my results came back borderline. They also gave me 5mg lopressor in the IV, and I've been having PVC's ever since the administration of the drug.

as I came down with depression and anxiety and pannic attacks ,after I was on the stuff
then was treated for it.. with other meds ! its a ban aid to mask the side effects of toprol xl .. best to get off the junk !

Instead of lasting 24 hrs, the generic Lopressor only last 10-12. Completely unbelievable! She wrote the original RX of Toprol XL and then the next one of Lopressor, and at what point did it occur to her NOT to at least inform me? So i could talk to my cardio and see if 1) He was aware of the shortage or 2) any further adjustments should be made? >:( sorry for ranting but im really mad that this might be whats making me feel so bad.

a long while ago (years) bbc news reported the u.k medical asso , had found beta blockers caused cholesterol to build up in most people who took it. so they limited the use of beta blockers - they also reported that due to adverse side effects , beta blockers would be in limited useage in the u.k.
I take 100mg of Toprol XL at 630 pm every day & have for about a year. However, this time isn't working out for me anymore & I'd like to change it to early morning around 11am or maybe 12pm. How would I go about doing this? I know I can't just out of the blue take it at 11am one day. Any help is appreciated!
Well, It's been almost a month since I got back on the brand TOPROL XL and I feel like I have my life back. Everyone who has ever experienced PVC's or arrhythmias will tell you that once they start, they ruin your day/week/month. I had a horrible 3 months on the generic Metoprolol Succinate ER. In summary, these were the symptoms that I had, while on the generic.
My doctor is recommending cardiac conversion. I do not want to do an invasive procedure if possible. Is there a non invasive option for me?
Metoprolol is available in two forms, fast acting Metoprolol Tartrate (Lopressor), and the time release Metoprolol Succinate (Toprol XL). I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat.
now they are happening all the time. My internist and cardiologist placed me on nanolol and toprol XL. The toprol seemed to work great for two days then did not work. I did have low grade hypertension in the past but I have recently lost 30 pounds and my blood pressure has been ok. I was taking Amoxicillin to treat a cold and the PVC resolved and returned one week after the antibiotic was stopped. Now I am concerned about artery blockage being a cause.
TOPROL or METOLAR cause numb and/or tingling hands and feet etc. "Stopping suddenly can cause a stroke or heat attack!" How do you reduce gradually since it is the extended release type which should not be broken or crushed? The one I have (Metolar) has 165 tiny white pills in a gelatin capsule but the pills probably have different release times and they all look the same.

New doctor has taken me off 100mg Amiodarone and replaced with 25mg toprol XL. I am experiencing dizziness, extreme sensitivity to heat and sunlight, confussion...I have waited a week thinking the side effects would subside. Internet research has led me to believe that the amiodarone can stay in my system for up to ninety days...or is it the beta blocker I am having a bad reactiont to??? Did the amiodarone damage my eyes? My vision has declined substantially over the past two years.
After wearing a halter monitor for 24hours and now knowing my heart rate rises to 140 in my sleep and when sitting and also I had an echocardiogram and it came back normal which is good so I know my heart is ok and this is due to my anxiety . I was given Toprol XL 25 mg to take but I am afraid to take it. I know its my anxiety talking but is it safe to take when it is for anxiety and to steady my heart rate?Also how does it make you feel?
When I made that same switch a few years ago, I went from 100mg Toprol XL once a day to 100mg metoprolol succinate once a day. Neither my doctor nor my pharmacist ever suggested that I would need to split the dose. My understanding is that metoprolol succinate is an extended release formuation that substitutes directly for Toprol XL. But ask your doc or a pharmacist to make sure. I'm off of the drug entirely now, so I don't worry with it anymore.
