7163794 tn?1457366813 myself to get up? Is this in my head, or is it possible there are long term effects to pain meds and suboxone use? Could it just be me? Has anyone else felt this?
Avatar f tn Actually there are several very good articles on the use of methadone for long term treatment of chronic pain. It is beleived to be the narcotic least apt to be abused and has the least side effects. I'm sorry I forgot the author (a respected PM Physician) of the best and most informative article but maybe someone here will remember. I found it by goggling it. Dosage may have to be increased in time but again they beleive not as often as other opiates.

351846 tn?1273615544 The way subs work I was told is use it to get your life in order and get away from the pain pills. Then taper down. I was on it for two years and that was too long I think. I am now 24 days clean from it and I wondered why I waited so long to stop it but then again I do because scared of detox. When you taper down its not bad at all. Compared to pain pills. Dont get me wrong there is withdrawls but very minimal. It wasnt as bad as I thought.
Avatar f tn What are some possible long term effects of crushing up and snorting adderall mixed with norco?
Avatar f tn I would rather see you use methadone instead of sub for "replacement " or "harm reduction" therapy as it's called(methadone maintenence or long term sub). Methadone is a much better pain med and satisfys drug hunger better for the hard core addict I feel.
Avatar n tn When methadone is taken under medical supervision, long-term maintenance causes no adverse effects to the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, bones, blood, brain, or other vital body organs. Methadone produces no serious side effects, although some patients experience minor symptoms such as constipation, water retention, drowsiness, skin rash, excessive sweating, and changes in libido. Once methadone dosage is adjusted and stabilized or tolerance increases, these symptoms usually subside.
Avatar f tn I’ve been taking Vicodin for over 7 years for fibromyalgia pain & lower back pain . I really think we have an “addict” gene. Some of my siblings have it & others don’t. For example my biological father was prone to alcohol addiction while my mother gets bad side effects when taking narcotic pain medication after a severe car accident. So I’m like my mom after hysterectomy they gave me codine made me sick I asked for plain Tylenol and it was enough.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know the long term effects of abusing pain killers? I found out today that a friend of my husbands actually had seizures because of how long she was on vicodin. Just curious.
Avatar f tn t having to raise the dose to meet th epain need of their patient. And also methadone has shown to be a good pain med used for long term chronic pain relief becauuse of the above reason (and it's much cheaper). I do have to say you were on a heavy dose of oxy if i understand correctly..20mg 1 in the am, 2 in the afternoon and 2 in the evening.
491984 tn?1463398730 Docs are never going to tell you what the long term effects could possibly be, and the truth is some of us are in way too much pain to actually have that be a deciding factor at the time. . I know if not for opioids alot more people than already have with my condition would have ended there lives. Including myself. Its bad enough people still are reaching that point with there pain, I say if it can save a life damn the side effects that MAY happen in a few decades.
Avatar n tn Nothing else I have ever known hurts like this. Has anyone done any long term studies about the long term effects of chemo? How can I find out more? Are there other cancer survivors out there who also feel the way I do? Telling me I shouldn't be hurting when I do hurt only adds insult to injury. Thanks, dragonfish This discussion is related to The long-term side effects of chemotherapy..
Avatar m tn is taking this much narcotics safe? do you think this dosage of methadone is sufficient at the beginning to replace the oxy for pain control? is it ok for him to start using the ultram as he is tapering off the oxy (to be taking all three drugs for a period)? any other thoughts or suggestions are very much welcome. thank you.
351846 tn?1273615544 At that time I was fairly naive to the whole suboxone issue, all I knew was that it was an option for opiate detox mainly for methadone patients or other heavy users of narcotics. So I had to taper down over months until I got down to 35mgs of methadone, then switched over to subooxne at 8mgs a day. I stayed at 8mgs for a couple of months before I found this site and talked with others that had varying opinions about suboxone and its use.
Avatar n tn There is no good body of knowledge about the long term effects....if he were just starting the medication, I would think it might be a side effect, but if he has been using for twenty years, then probably not, but can't say that for sure...the way to find out is ask the doctor to take him off of prozac and see if his symptoms subside...should be done carefully and slowly over a 5 week period.......
Avatar m tn Methadone doesn't "block" other narcotics and it's actually a fine long-acting and inexpensive pain medication. I think you may be thinking of suboxone. The active ingredient is the synthetic opiate called subutex (buprenophine). The second ingredient in suboxone is an opiate antagonist (naloxone) that will either render additional opiates merely ineffective or actually cause precipitated withdrawal.
Avatar m tn dont be too scared as said above few people experience sides but one thing is for sure long term use for decades is not healthy and only cirrhosis or severe damaged liver can justify such use so i'd definitely combo with other therapies so that nucs can be used short term from latest easl conference we have now tests for sustained immune control of hbv cccdna equal or less than 5 copies/cell we now need an hbsag level equal to 5copies/cell, mybe hbsag 500iu/ml
Avatar f tn Does anybody know what the effects are, on the body, from long term use of Anti-inflammatory pills, and could it cause cold sweats & increased urine output?
Avatar f tn It is also unethical to give methadone to patients for long periods of time without knowing the long term effects?
Avatar n tn My point to all of this that I have been to good PM Drs and to very poor PM Drs, I wa s recently changed from ER meds to methadone with 30mg of IR oxycodone 1-2 every 4-6 hours as needed for break through pain, I have been on the meds for so long that my body has built up a tolerance to the meds and they are no longer effective, I by know means want to increase the amount and/or strength of the medication. Anyone in a similar situation, successful changes, etc???
