But generally its safe long term. One thing to remember is just because two medications have similar names they can be totally different. The FDA is aware of this and is trying to change this. I know because the first medication I ever took was Anafranil.
Avatar f tn Are you on any kind of vitamin/supplement regime? Long term opiate use wreaks havoc on our bodies/brains and it takes time for all of our systems to heal and begin functioning like normal again. I know it's hard but time and patience are really they key to this recovery thing. Did you quit cold turkey because you feel you are an addict? If so are you involved in any kind of aftercare?
1004111 tn?1250415392 if u stay on either long term u still have to pay the price of wd from either drug..in actuality no matter how u decide to do this, aftercare will help u more than anything else..people resist it...but ur plan needs to include some form of aftercare...or most likely u will be posting here again later on after relapsing...make a plan...make sure u have cut urself off from ur supply..can even mean changing ur phone number..put urself in the best possible situation to do this and stick to ur plan..
589824 tn?1238796813 Long term use of Clonidine should be tapered. BUT it does not cause the same type of W/D as opiates. If you suddenly stop Clonidine, you can suffer what is called "rebound hypertension" In otherwards, your blood pressure will go up. So it is not a huge deal unless you have underlying cardiac issues or existing high BP.
Avatar f tn They certainly hear all the negative media coverage damning the prescription and use of long term opiates. If we influence or change one person's negative attitude towards chronic pain and its management than we are fighting the war against us! Yes the War against Us, Against Chronic Pain Patients. You should not be shamed or harassed into this position, "stop the mess and live in constant pain." Taking your husband to your next appt along with educating him may be beneficial.
Avatar m tn The only reason that I ask is that I've heard on of the long-term side effects on dxm use is being a bit lathargic. I'm that way now and the VA did an MRI of my brain and found that my adrenal glad had begun to shrink so, it wasn't producing enough of the thyroid hormone.....I can already tell I'm got some defects from the long term use in my cognitive abilities. I'm down to 18 pills day. 1 pill every two days. The morning w/draws have pretty much stopped.
Avatar n tn Is there any info about long term plavix use. I have been taking Plavix along with Lisinopril and Toprol for the past two years after quad bypass but I don't feel very good about it anymore. Any info as in is this medicine weakening my internal organs.
Avatar f tn I have recently been feeling full of regret, very emotional and tearful, I have been informed this amy be due to the long term use of Naltrexone, and lack of natural endorphins , so i have been advised by my CDT Nurse to start thinking about coming off of them, is this right? Other wise, my life is so good compared to what it was, I am happy, but just feel like the past keeps wanting me to remember how bad things were... could my 'miracle' now be becoming my tormenter?
Avatar m tn Dear whoever may know, I was diagnosed with anxiety and panic disorder 2 1/2 years ago, and I have been taking Lexapro at 10 mg per day ever since. The medicine has really seemed to have helped my life in all aspects. Whether it has really helped or if this is some kind of placebo effect, I am unsure. I still have moments of reasonable stress at work, but who doesn't...most importantly, I don't have panic attacks anymore.
Avatar f tn How long do you normally take clonidine for withdrawal symptoms from Oxycontin and Percocet?
Avatar f tn Thanks for the friendly responses :) Yes, 8 years is a long time...I was on Tylenol #3 for a few years before that, then the doc bumped the dose up. Total time using opiates was about 13 years. Yup, way too long. My back was injured when I went into pre-term labor & delivered my now 14 yr old son 6 weeks early. The OB nurse held my legs together until the Dr got there. The contractions ripped just about every abdominal & lower back muscle I had.
Avatar m tn anyone know how long the clonidine patch takes to start working, I started using it last night for opiate withdrawls. 6 yrs. of use and it is time to end this vicious cycle; i was taking 60 mg. methadone for a back problem a day. today is day 2.
