Avatar m tn com/home/news/nephrology/chronic-kidney-disease-ckd/ace-inhibitors-may-be-a-better-option-for-ckd-patients/. We recommend in your case to work with your doctor. They are not concerned about kidney disease? Calcium channel blockers work well for hypertension and is it controlling this for you? I would speak to your doctor regarding your concerns and if switching classes of medications makes sense in your case.

Avatar f tn ve never been diabetic but have not checked my sugar level in the last one year. My urine output has suddenly become very low. Can someone tell me if I have CKD, and what the cause could be. And can I have low urine output so early in the disease. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I am hoping this may be something benign. Is it possible this is something other then CKD? He has had declining creatinine since 2011 along with blood in his urine and urine is frothy. I am sure hoping someone can give me some other reason. If it is CKD how fast does this usually progress?
Business woman1 I have been diagnosed with CKD stage2, my doctor says there's nothing I can do about it...I don't believe this. Are there any foods I should avoid? What about supplements? I believe in homeopathic remedies, what can I take to improve the condition?
Avatar m tn I have been taking 40 mg lisinopril for 3 months. It works on my BP but I am coughing and my nose is running.
Avatar m tn ve bumped a thread called Diet makes a big difference. In there I explain the diet I used. I had stage 3 CKD and was able to raise my numbers enough to become stage 2 CKD. I went from a GFR of 54% to 69%. I don't know what the creatinine and blood urea mean. I was always only given my GFR which is an approximate of how the kidneys are functioning. So a GFR of 54% means that you have 54% of your kidney function. I go back in six months to see if it has risen anymore.
Avatar m tn If there is an underlying cause to CKD, such as vasculitis, this may be treated directly with treatments aimed to slow the damage. In more advanced stages, treatments may be required for anemia and bone disease. Severe CKD requires one of the forms of renal replacement therapy; this may be a form of dialysis, but ideally constitutes a kidney transplant.
Avatar m tn my husband has CKD and we are going to Greece for two weeks in the summer - we naturally drink a lot of water and I would prefer to not have to buy lots of packs of bottled water - the expense isn't really the issue but lugging big packs around in the heat - I drink 2 litres a day and the cost to the environment isn't good.
Avatar m tn I was on coreg for 2 months and then my Cardiologist took me off it. He tried Lisinopril while I was in the hospital however the combo of HCTZ and Coreg and the Ace inhib was causing me to feel dizzy and ill. Now it has been 8 months after my hospitalization and they are trying Lisinopril again. I am up to 5mg and my BP is 90/60 , I feel a little off balance. They want me on at least 10mg, 20 is better but with a PB of 80/60 I doubt I will be able to handle the low BP .
Avatar f tn In general, lisinopril should not be taken with potassium supplements or diuretics that conserve potassium [for example, hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene (Dyazide)], since blood potassium levels may rise to dangerous levels. PREGNANCY: Lisinopril should not be taken during pregnancy because fetuses and neonates have died when lisinopril was administered during pregnancy. NURSING MOTHERS: It is not known whether lisinopril is excreted in breast milk.
Avatar n tn 60 is stage 2 CKD, with or WITHOUT symptoms ie stage 2 is 60-89, so you are bordering on stage 3, moderate CKD, which is egfr 30-59. I am in stage 3. stage 4 is 15-29 and ESKD end stage ie transplant and dialysis, is under 15. Progression can be very slow!!!! ie less than 2 or 3 a year drop. however, it can be VERY rapid, I had 3 tests over 8 months and fell from 80 soemthing to 68 to 53.
Avatar f tn Hi tony! Im new in this grp and i read a lot of owners posting issues on ckd, but none on dogs with liver issues as well. My 14.5 dacshund was diagnosed with ckd. But the vet did not mention that to me when he started vomiting last month. She said it was due to hepatobilliary disease, which i think is liver and gallbladder disease. They started puting him on antibiotics called co-amoxiclav for about 2 weeks. He started feeling better, came from from the vet and stopped vomiting.
Avatar m tn Although I also have CKD, it is not from diabetes, though it is not uncommon in diabetics , they are a high risk group. Go back to dr, request kidney function test be repeated and order a renal ultrasound. As he has diabetes and is in a high risk group, I would ask for a refer to a nephrologist.
Avatar m tn I'm sure that all at this site that lost their 'Best Friend' to CKD after a long extensive battle will agree that you soon found yourself secluded and without listeners during your grievance journey. In fact, it was probably suggested by some that you 'move on', and you probably even received some looks from others, as if your sanity was being questioned. You probably even started questioning yourself as to whether or not your actions were normal. http://www.
Avatar f tn what can i take (over the counter)for heartburn ? i have stage 3 ckd with a gfr of 36. just looking for a couple of suggestions.
Avatar f tn Hello, welcome here. One of the most important factors for controlling or even potentially reversing Chronic Kidney Disease, if it is caused by diabetes, is to have excellent control of blood sugar. So questions are: 1. What is your Hba1c. A normal hba1c is < 5.0. If you want to control your diabetes well you should be aiming for an hba1c as close to 5 as you can safely manage. 2. Are you monitoring your blood sugars? What is your typical fasting and post eating numbers?
Avatar f tn Hi Nancy. Nephrology is not my department, but I do have some background. I don't think you're overreacting. As a former medical professional (veterinarian), I've always believed that doctor and patient have to work together to achieve positive health outcomes. (Maybe because my patients couldn't look up symptoms on WebMD and tell me why they think they had a certain disease. Did you know that PCPs in America absolutely loath Dr. Mahmet Oz?
Avatar n tn 20 mg in 7 am , and 20 mg Lisinopril in 7 pm (so total = 40 mg Lisinopril per day). During the day (systolic) hypertension goes 150-160 mmHg and only in 2-4pm it is 130 mmHg (and at 10-12 pm). What should be done for this patient. Maybe trying a diuretic (hydrochlorthiazid) and lowering the dose of Lisinopril? Please tell what do you think of the doses to start trying, how often and when during the day? (P.S.
Avatar f tn Gradual loss of kidney function is called chronic kidney disease (CKD). People with CKD may go on to permanent kidney failure. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn addtionally though, renal pain would definately NOT be in the chest or anywhere near the chest. It starts in the flank area, up around the waist.
