255738 tn?1230233362 I am a 61 yr old female. I have been on Lipitor for over 25 years. I have been having high triglycerides for many years. Last blood work shows: AST (10-35) 31 U/L ALT (6-29) 37 U/L LDL-CHOLESTEROL ( OR = 46) 67 mg/dL TRIGLYCERIDES (<150) 175 mg/dL H CHOL/HDLC RATIO (< OR = 5.0) 2.8 (calc) N GLUCOSE (65-99) 98 mg/dL The dr. told me to discontinue taking products containing Tylenol. This is the first time ever I have shown elevated liver enzymes.
Avatar m tn valve replacement 2001, redid bypasses. I was on 40mg Lipitor and 500mg no-flush niacin for a number of years with moderate sucess. I subscribe to the Cleveland Clinic Heart Newsletter. In the July 2007 issue there was suggestion that 1,500mg niacin was a good statin supplement. Starting in July 2007 I followed this suggestion, taking 1,500mg slow-release niacin with the Lipitor. I have biannual blood tests.

More concerned with feeling like I am in a fog especially first waking up very noticeable improves slightly at work but still feel off . Avatar n tn My Asthma Dr. said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
Avatar n tn My most recent numbers ( no medication) are as follow: Total 306, Triglycerides 54, HDL 90, LDL 205, ratio 2.3 I am a 60 year old female. Statins affect my liver; I have been on Lipitor and simvastatin (Zocor) I have no major health problems, eat a good diet, only a few pounds too many, not enough exercise. What can I do to lower my LDL number?
Avatar m tn LDL would be nice to be down to 100 or less. Triglycerides also could come down. With a biscuspid valve you need to try extra hard to prevent calcification. Lipitor studies have shown that it has success in reducing blockage already there along with reducing LDL levels. Do you eat red meat? Red meat will increase the triglyceride level along with the LDL level. I have tried this on myself and gave up beef for 12 years and pork for one year.
Avatar n tn I have been on Lipitor for about 8 years and started having leg pain and many muscle aches. Dr wanted an ultrasound for blood clots since I recently had surgery. Thank goodness there was no blood clots. SO I asked my dr if she thought it could be the lipitor. She never even thought about it. So she agreed and and I went off of Lipitor for 2 weeks and the pain almost stopped.
Avatar n tn 70 and if you are only on 5 mg of Lipitor the first thing I would do is to increase the Lipitor dose to 40 mg daily. Crestor is stronger mg for mg as compared to Lipitor but there is no data that suggests it is better.
Avatar f tn Before you take any other medications, you should try to quit smoking. Fenofibrates in combination with reduced fat diet is one way of getting triglycerides down.
Avatar m tn Im a smoker but already quit for few days already. Im just worried about my 2d echo report. My Triglycerides is always high and my bad cholesterol. Im also taking up maintainance everyday 20mg Lipitor , 100mg aspirin tablet and vitamins -Concentric left ventricular hypertrophy w/ adequate wall motion and contractility -Thickened mitral valve with mild prolapse of the anterior mitral leaflet. LV (ed) 4.5 EF FS 64% / 34% LV (es) 2.
Avatar n tn My Triglycerides and HDL count are very good. I take Lipitor for my high cholesterol. Is the Nuva Ring okay to use while on Lipitor? Is the Nuva Ring not recommended for people with High cholesterol? My Lipitor is 10 mg. Thank you!
Avatar m tn I also have 20-30% blockage in other artery which doctor stated with strong lipitor and diet change it should help this. I am on Lipitor 80 mg. also effient, aspirin, and coreg, which was just changed from atenolol which I had been so tired and drained my doctor switched it. I also take lisinopril, and pepcid and iron because being on blood thinners at my age it caused other issues. I have had several issues with vasalvega sincope since my heart attack I just pass out..
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor (20mg) and my wife has been taking Simvastatin. Prior to being put on medication, my cholesterol had been running about 205 for a long time and my wife's had been around 160. What is the difference betwen the two? My medication is considerably higher than mine? Can you explain why? My blood sugar was running abot 137 so my Doctor also put me on Actoplus as well. My Lipitor is about $100 and my wife's Simvastatin is about $6 (same quantity of tables-30).
Avatar f tn It was 121 in December. My recommendation is that you start a low-dose statin, Lipitor 20, so that we can get that LDL below 100. High LDL increases your risk of heart attack and stroke and vessel damage. Please let me know if you wish to start the Lipitor." My father was on this medication and weaned himself off because he'd become inactive due to terrible muscle pain. I'm afraid to try it, but would like to reverse this since it's such a new issue.
Avatar m tn Total Chol about 120 or lower Triglycerides about 115 or lower HDL fairly steady at about 35. has always been low. Last monday TG rose to 204 and HDL dropped to 29. Total Chol was 115 and LDL direct was 55. My change was dropping lisinopril due to a couch and increasing Coreg from 3.125 mg 2x/d to 6.25 mg 2x/d this has shifted my cardiac disease risk in the wrong direction. Does it make sense that the lipid change is due to coreg dose this small?
Avatar n tn When my insurance, years ago, would not cover Zocor any longer, I was started on Lipitor..both of which I was taking 60mg a day. The lipitor caused my severe muscle pains and aches and raised my CPK levels, to the point I would be in tears by the time I left work each day. Doctor was able to convince the insurance company to, once again, cover the Zocor. My lipids, triglycerides, and over-all cholesterol levels remained abnormal for years, even with proper diet, exercise, and statins.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
Avatar n tn In the last 4 months, I have begun to experience increase in shortness of breath and exercise-induced angina (stable). I take Plavix, Lipitor, Niaspan (just recently), Atenelol, and aspirin. Should I seek a second opinion or is this blockage anything I should be overly concerned with?
335728 tn?1331414412 Atkins was correct when he claimed that his diet would lower cholesterol, make triglycerides plummet and raise HDL. This has been shown by independent studies. It also worked wonders in me as I lost weight. My cholesterol went from 280 to 220, my triglycerides went from about 300 to 140 and my HDL from 45 to 57. ( I know these aren't normal values, but the change in each one was remarkable) Unfortunately, the Atkins diet does not lower the LDL (mine dropped from about 165 to 143).
Avatar f tn I finished triple tx in mid march 2012. My cholesterol and triglycerides have been high. I was thinking of taking omega 3 fish oil…maybe start now ? or maybe wait till after 6 months post tx? Perhaps the fish oil can help with my cholesterol and triglycerides. Is fish oil ok for the liver? Anybody have any thoughts on this? Thanks.
Avatar f tn My doctor tested for SMA after routine liver tests (I was taking Lipitor) were slightly elevated (in the 40s). When the positive SMA results came back, I then found out about my Alpha-1 anti-trypsin deficiency heterozygous carrier status. My triglycerides have always been fine. My good cholesterol is high, but my bad cholesterol is now higher than normal again and my regular doctor wants me back on Lipitor. I am very hesitant due to the Alpha-1 carrier status and the autoantibodies.
