Avatar n tn I had to come off of Lipitor after one week due to severe muscle and joint pain. My mother had moderate pain after starting Lipitor. We were both encouraged by our separate physicians to take coenzyme Q10 with the Lipitor. While my pain continued, my mother's pain has almost completely disappeared.
Avatar f tn I do find that coQ10 is helping almost as much but is also helping with muscle stiffness caused by Lipitor, a statin drug.

576875 tn?1217987525 Within a few months I had severe muscle pain and loss of strength. I was taken off Lipitor. My current LDL is about 180 and use Flax Oil and Niacin supplements daily. Since beginning Lotrel in 2007 I have had a recurrence of severe muscle pain and weakness. I also suffered heat exhaustion in 2006 and now cannot tolerate more than 6 hours in, 90degree plus, heat. I sometimes have night sweats, and chills. My feet are so painful that I take Advil to sleep.
Avatar n tn I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs.
Avatar m tn Some doctors don’t believe that statins can cause side effects such as muscle or joint pain or memory problems. Others have seen so many cases they have developed different strategies for lowering cholesterol. If your doctor isn’t taking your complaint seriously, you may need to see another doctor.
Avatar f tn My dad, for example, it taking only one fourth of the low dose of Lipitor and it is working great at bringing his LDL down to 79. Muscle pain is the side effect of statins, but in a smaller lower dose you may not have the pain and it still may work for you. You may also want to take a look at your diet. Red meat, for example, raises LDL levels. I lowered my LDL from approximately 130 to 79 by eliminating red meat for one year (it has now been 13 years since I had beef).
519736 tn?1253986826 I have no knowledge of these medications, but did look up side effects of statins. If it does happen to be a side effect, how long should he wait to see if this pain resolves itself after stopping the lipitor....any help is appreciated.

1583640 tn?1296674030 m saying that in the case of statins, the effects have been proven to NOT be accumulative. Side effects almost always present in the first 90 days. I'm sure there are some situations where that is not the case.
Avatar m tn Some of the statin drugs, like the one you're taking, can cause joint/muscle pain. My mom had to stop taking Lipitor because of severe leg pain. Before you ask your doctor for a referral to a rheumatologist, do some research into the side effects of your meds. There are some web sites out there that let you input all your meds and supplements, and check for side effects and adverse interactions. Another good source of information is your local pharmacist.
Avatar m tn 2010 but I am now expereincing muscle stiffness/soreness on both of my biceps. Is this a side effect? I went to my doctor and my dosage has been lowered.
Avatar f tn One of the side effects of statins, and a fairly serious one, is degeneration of muslce tissue especially in the legs. If this side effect is noticed, then the drug is to be immediately stopped by the doctor. This is written on the leaflet accompanying the packaging. If this is the reason for his pains, he must stay off the medication because it can cause serious damage to muslces.
Avatar n tn Although mild muscle pain is a relatively common side effect of statins, some people who take statin medications to lower their cholesterol may have severe muscle pain. This intense pain is a symptom of rhabdomyolysis,a rare condition that causes muscle cells to break down. This does not make your muscle tissue "mushy", it just causes cells t breakdown.
Avatar m tn 59 years Male Weight: 71.6 Kgs Hight: 169 inches. As per my Cardiology, i should ignore these pain.. Some or how, i am not getting convinced!!. Should i be concerned?? Can this be because of side effect of medicines??
Avatar m tn I am a patient, not a doctor, but due to high blood fats, I have been prescribed a number of different statins such as lipitor, and I am among the unfortunate people who always develop muscle pains in the arms, shoulders, and back on these drugs. You might want to ask your MD about this, as it might relate to your back pain.
Avatar f tn I had all of the classic muscle pains listed in statin side effects documentation. My doctor said it was because of coQ10 and vitamin D deficiency from the statins. She recommended StatinHelp (www.statinhelp.com) that is sold on Amazon. It has really helped with the muscle pains. Statin side effects are never really discussed by the doctors. I found out two years into treatment when I mentioned needing something for back and leg pain to her. By then I was taking 10-15 advil per day to function.
10996785 tn?1432812977 With both meds, I went through a brief period of muscle pain (a few days maybe). With the Lipitor it was in the back of my upper legs. I also have a great deal of muscle stiffness and pain in the mornings when I wake up, which I have never had. I have never had arthritis and have always been extremely active. I started taking the Progesterone treatment after saliva tests showed a deficiency and I was also experiencing some hot flashes. I had my uterus removed due to excessive vaginal bleeding about 5 years ago.
Avatar n tn CPK is found in skeletal muscle and myocardium (heart muscle). Lipitor can cause various levels of elevation and associated symptoms like muscle aches, weakness and atrophy. The elevated CPK may be of no consequence or it may cause serious problems depending upon the degree of elevation and the symptoms. A severely elevated CPK can cause liver damage. I would consult with your physician to determine if this is a new finding.
Avatar f tn m on Crestor 5 mg for 4 days now. It is the second attempt trial. The statins always give me muscle pain. This muscle pain occurred in my heart so it looks like "heart attack". One side of my head and neck is in pain now. Not very very pain but very uncomfortable.
